Chapter 1 - Trap Detection

“What the hell are you reading that for?”

Steve glances up as Robin leans over the counter to look at the cover of Kali’s book.

“Not that it’s your business, but I’m studying it in class and I thought I could do with some more in-depth reading-”

Robin reaches out and yanks the book from Kali’s hands, tossing it over her shoulder and into the trash, “Bleh, yuck,” she shares a disgusted look with Steve, or tries to, because he just shrugs in response.

“I’d appreciate you not damaging my property, thank you,” Kali says and fishes the book back out, “And what’s it to you? What have you got against soulmates?”

“Got to say, I’m not a fan of delusional crap like that. It’s like horoscopes, right? It’s all made up.”

Kali laughs, “You think it’s made up?”

“I know it is,” she says back, “It’s all bullshit stuff made up to get you to buy crappy books like that one.”

“And all the movies? All the literature? Classical art and plays based around soulmates? Romeo and Juliet?”

“Come on, Kali, don’t tell me you actually buy into this shit.”

Kali shakes her head, “I suppose you think that Jane being able to locate people is also bullshit? Or how about the Upside Down? Or /my/ abilities? You’ve seen it all yourself.”

“Yeah but that’s different.”

“Is not.”

“It is, because I’ve actually seen it for myself.”

“Fifty percent of the human population sees their soulmate strings, as well as /others/, and you really don’t believe it?”

Robin rolls her eyes, nudging Steve, “What about you? You believe in soulmates?”

Steve shrugs again, “I mean… yeah.”

Robin laughs, dropping back into hysterics and then collecting herself when she realizes he’s not laughing with her, “Wait, are you serious?”

“Well, yeah.”

“Well, you’re an idiot.”

“I am,” Steve agrees easily, smiling sadly back at her, “But I can also see my soul strings, so… of course I believe in it.”

Robin sobers entirely at that, “Wait, what?”

“I believe it’s real.”

Summary: After Eight Years Away From Hawkins, Nancy And Jonathan Decide To Come Back And Get Some Much

Summary: After eight years away from Hawkins, Nancy and Jonathan decide to come back and get some much needed closure. And, if they’re lucky, they’ll be able to bring Steve home.

Chapter 1 - Back to Hawkins

Nancy dresses in her summer best and sneaks out of the house after dinner.

She darts across the lawn and climbs into Barb’s car, blushing at the look she gets from her best friend.

“Really?”

“I wanted to look nice,” she defends herself, “You think… do you think he’ll notice me now?”

“I think every guy there will notice you,” Barb says as she starts the car.

But Nancy only wants one of them to look at her, just one… very specific one. The only one that matters.

“You hear he broke up with Becky Macher?”

“Yeah,” Barb says, not nearly as interested as she is, “Broke her  heart, too. Just like every other girl from last year, another notch on  his bedpost, another virgin sacrifice.”

Nancy makes a face and shakes her head, “Don’t say it like that.”

“Like what?”

“Don’t say it like… like… like he’s a bad person.”

“He’s not a good person,” Barb says in disgust, “You deserve better, you can do better.”

Nancy wraps her arms around herself, “I can do boring,” she says as she rolls her eyes, “I want him. I want him to look at me.”

Summary: Now that he’s out of the Upside Down, Steve has to deal with the changes his body experienced over the last five years, and what it means for his growing relationship with Jonathan and Nancy.

Chapter 1 - January 5th, 1987

He knows it’s getting late when the bartender makes the call for the last round, but he still pushes off going home as long as he can after, ordering one more drink while he still can and sipping slowly on it as the bar empties out until it’s just him left.

“Need a ride home?” the guy behind the bar asks as he wipes down the counter.

He’s been giving Steve bedroom eyes all night and… it’s tempting, it really is, but he just can’t find it in him to bridge that gap. He meets the guy’s eyes and stands abruptly when he winks at Steve.

“Oh, no, thank you, I can-… I can get home on my own, thanks,” he clears his throat, tossing a stack of dollar bills onto the counter and walking away, “Thanks for the drinks, keep the tip.”

Steves Been Staring Up At The Ceiling Fan In His Bedroom For The Last Hour Or So.

Steve’s been staring up at the ceiling fan in his bedroom for the last hour or so.

Sundays have been the bane of his existence since he started working a 9-5 job, he can normally get shifts on the other six days of the week, but Sundays… he never has anything to do on Sundays.

And he can’t exactly bother Robin, because she’s busy working her second job, having actual things to do.

He can’t go hang out with Dustin either, because the kid still has normal homework and shit that he really has to do on Sundays - like have a life, and other friends, not just Steve.

It’s the worst day of the week.

And no matter how many hobbies he manages to get into, only to lose interest after a month or so, he still ends up completely bored, with nothing to do on a Sunday.

What the hell is he supposed to do on a day like this when everyone he knows is busy?

He could go out, but he’s already tight on money as it is, so driving around mindlessly would just be a waste of gas. And anything to fill the time would also include money.

Sundays… Sundays always suck.
