OHH MY GOOODDDDDD THIS BOOK…NO FUCKING WAYYYY????? OH MY GOD IM ON THIS PART IF U KNOW U KNOW
So I listened Aaron Beauregard’s book Playground a couple days ago, absolutely loved it. I decided to listen to The Slob by the same author and I’m really not as into it. In fact I kind of hate it.
What I want in a splatterpunk book is PLOT! I want comedy, drama, gore, and a HAPPY ending! Like yeah this book is just a woman goes into a house, gets assulted a lot, and leaves…great for telling me? I don’t care! I want stuff to happen!! That’s why I liked playground so much, not only was there the drama of the kids situation, but there was also the adults trying to “crack” Rock and make him admit that he essentially hates what he is doing. The part with Rock was actually much more interesting to me than the kids. I know what will happen with the kids, but with rock and the adults there’s more of an internal struggle than external. Although I will say during the “skateboarding” scene I audibly was SCREAMING!!
Again I want a book that will not only make me audibly gasp but make me invested in the characters. I love splatterpunk but I feel like so much of it is just rape and murder with nothing else, I want a STORY to read!! Not just some case file of what happened to someone.
Anyway:
Playground by Aron Baeregard I would give a 10/10
Slob by Aron Beauregard I didn’t actually finish becuase I didn’t like it, but I would give it a 3/10
Ps. also haha if anyone knows good splatterpunk books with a dash of humor maybe u could reccomend me some idk maybe if you want to
I’m currently 2 hours into full brutal by Kristopher Triana and I’m definitely going to finish it I like it a lot. I will say tho I don’t like that the main girl is only 16, I get that it’s the whole thing that she’s underage. But like would it really have KILLED Triana to make her 18?? I don’t think much would have changed if she was 18 and in college, definitely creeps me out. Other than that good so far! We’ll see how this goes!
I wish there were fandoms for obscure fucked up horror books so people like me who can’t take anything seriously can joke about the dark plot
Anybody got any good splatterpunk book recs for me to listen to? I just finished the girl next door by Jack Ketchum and I need something to satiate my thirst for campy gore
Anybody else love to read so much but have horrible reading comprehension? Like if the author doesn’t clearly state what’s going on without any weird metaphors I just genuinely can’t keep up. It feels like I’m just floating around confused trying to grasp the rare words in the paragraphs that actually mean anything to me. Trying to filter out the descriptions and cool stuff and just figure out which character is where. :/ kind of sucks when I get a new book I’m excited about but it’s too above my reading level
For splatter punk recommendations I really liked night stockers it’s about a group of people who have to do an overnight shift at there job(supermarket) and a DIFFERENT supermarket attacks them i found it very funny
I just figured out how to look at my asks!
lol I actually already downloaded that on audible but I haven’t started it yet, I’ll check it out! Kristopher Triana is one of my fav current authors so I’m sure I’ll enjoy it :3
thank you for the suggestion!
Ok so books i need to read in no particular order:
Night Stolkers by Kristopher Triana
The Rot by Stephen Cooper
The man with the scarred neck by SanityHorror
Cows (which i already started reading)
The end of Alice (already started)
Wasp factory (again)
Full brutal (again)
Through the Eyes of Desperation (both the red AND black versions because two authors writing the same universe from different PoVs intrigues me)
I feel like a lot of splatterpunk authors use the genre as an excuse to write misogyny. You CAN have a great extreme horror novel without the unnecessary cleavage descriptions and men ogling women. I know the whole genre is to make people clutch thier pearls but omg!
I’m listening to night stockers right now and the amount of descriptions of Mila’s tits is insane. Did you really need to add it? Did that one sentence really change it from horror to extreme horror? I will tell you I’m currently kind of annoyed with you if that’s what you were going for.
Of course you could say “that isn’t the author, it’s just in the characters POV” but the problem is that EVERY character thinks like this.
Sorry I’m just kind of annoyed by this book. I love Kristopher triana but my lord.
Anybody read Kristopher triana’s new novel old lady? I’m waiting for it to be available on audible but I’m def gonna listen to it I love his writing
I would reccomend the book full brutal by Kristopher triana. It definitely fits the criteria that you described and might be my favorite extreme horror book of all time. You will go from hating the main character to cheering her on over and over. It’s a slow burn in a way, the dark stuff doesn’t start until a while in but when it starts it SNOWBALLS FAST!
Horror Book Recommendations Needed
Hey guys! I absolutely love horror in any form (ARG, Movie, Game, Book, etc.) and lately have gotten into Splatterpunk/Extreme/Disturbing horror books.
The only thing is that multiple books I have been recommended are from the perspective of the killer/person doing the disturbing stuff and from the ones that I've read so far those just... don't work?
Like not in a 'haha I'm so desensitized' way because there are books with objectively less fucked up shit happening that I am disturbed by and enjoy reading. It's just that no matter what the protagonist is doing if they are just clinically describing it to the point where it feels like just another Tuesday, that actively takes me out of the book and out of feeling disturbed. If I'm reading disturbing fiction I'm reading it for the purpose of feeling DISTURBED and if I'm not disturbed while actually reading it then it doesn't feel like its doing it's job as a book.
I'd love to go more in depth about my thoughts on it but for the moment I want to see if there are any recommendations for me to get more data about these kinds of books.
So if you do know of any books that specifically have the protagonist as the person doing the disturbing stuff please let me know I want to see if there are good ones.
Two last things about any recs tho:
Nothing that jumps around perspectives to like, show other peoples direct responses I need it to be one persons pov
Nothing where its like 'oh the protagonist is doing this messed up thing but its totally normal in this society' so no like Tender is the Flesh type of deal
Thank you for any help!!!
This reminds me of full brutal by Kristopher triana
if you have the power
I still got 30 minutes left but they DEFINITELY could have just taken the gun from the dude and killed him. Feels like they aren’t even fighting back! Let’s see how this ends
Shojo Tsubaki and Anime Exploitation
The stage is set in the 1920s of Japan. Midori is without parents and selling flowers is her only source of income. Poor and destitute, Midori readily accepts Mr. Arashi's offer to join his circus; completely unaware of the horror to come.
Shojo Tsubaki is a story thoroughly drenched in controversy. You'll hardly find a conversation that doesn't revolve around how disturbing and grotesque it is. It's not unwarranted seeing as how the bulk of the story is about Midori suffering. The girl seriously has it rough: Dead parents, dirt poor, deprived peers, added alliteration. Seriously messed up stuff. Any moment of happiness she finds is quickly eclipsed by another traumatic experience.
This is essentially an exploitation film in anime format. Some will argue that " Shojo Tsubaki is actually super deep and it's a reflection of the darkness of humanity!" And that's where I call bs. You could make that argument about literally every piece of torture porn under the sun. If the purpose was to expose humanity's darkness, the manga shoots itself in the foot by being so voyeuristic about everything. Suehiro Maruo's involvement with the eroguro movement provides the clearest perspective on what this manga was about. He's simply the type of man who loves to combine the macabre with heavy sexual themes.
Midori truly is one of the most pitiable manga heroines out there. She suffers abuse throughout almost every moment of her narrative and the tale ends with her completely alone in the world. It was as if the universe itself conspired to torment her. One positive to come out of this tragedy is Tokuriji Muchisate. He's a despicable rapist like the other circus freaks but his character design is just so striking. It's a simple yet effective take on mummies and the traditional Japanese military uniform.
In essence, Shojo Tsubaki is not a fun read or watch. I usually enjoy the surreal works of Suehiro Maruo but he really dialed the nihilism up to 11 with this one.
@sanityshorror
Hope ya getting better soon
Needed to express my feelings about what I just wrote.
