Russian Invasion Of Ukraine - Tumblr Posts
I really need everyone to work together and get Ukraine to the trending hastags so that everyone can see the results of one of the tonight's russian air raid.
First of all, the air raids began as early as 2 A.M., when everyone was asleep at their homes, including me. There were drone attacks even before that, starting at 9 P.M., but they reached Kyiv around 2 A.M., and the drone danger lasted until 4 A.M. 35 drones were launched by russia and destroyed by our defenses, including Kyiv and other regions. Around that time we already knew that russia had launched guided missiles — long distance missiles that take hours to reach the Ukrainian borders and then can change their direction at any moment, making them unpredictable and hard to shoot down. But we had some time to rest until they came close enough to be dangerous, so everyone tried to get at least a bit more sleep.
Then, at 6 A.M. the real terror began. Guided missiles from one side, more and more were launched after that, and sonic missiles were launched as well. Loud explosions from all sides, debris falling over the city, it was loud and dangerous as hell. An apartment block was hit, a fire caught on because of the damage, civilians had to be evacuated immediately. Debris landed onto streets, around parks, a lioness in the local zoo got contusion from the burst wave of the debris piece landing 300 meters away from her cage. Everyone is receiving medical help, both humans and animals.
Kharkiv city (east of Ukraine) was targeted as well, ballistic missiles hitting the city centre, apartment blocks, targeting civilians and their homes.
The air raid was over at 10 A.M. and by the evening the numbers reached 130 people wounded and 5 people killed in the air raid. In last 5 days russia has launched more than 500 drones and missiles towards Ukraine, targeting civilians. Tonight 99 different types of weaponry was used against people of Ukraine, from sonic ballistic missiles to guided missiles.
Important: all 10 of the sonic missiles were shot down by Ukrainian air defense using Patriot air defense complex. Ukrainian warriors are constantly showcasing perfect aim and usage of the gifted complexes, considering this type of missiles can only be neutralized by the Patriot complex. This shows not only perfect strength and devotion of our fighters, defenders of our people, but also the sheer need of these complexes in order to survive. Sonic missiles reach my city in 3 minutes after being launched thousands of kilometers away, so please, if you can, reach out to your government authorities in order to support our defenses with the needed weaponry.
And a moment of karma for the last: a russian missile, launched towards Ukraine, lost control mid-air and fell down on some village in voronezh oblast of russia. Finally russians got to experience the kind of terror they make us live in, by their own hands. I don't think they'll learn anything by this after all, but I hope for some kind of justice for everyone they've killed.

TL of the twit in Ukrainian:
Volunteers have passed on the drawings from kids. Our son (20 years old): "Ughhhhh, in 2014, I was drawing such pictures, now I am the one kids draw these pictures for". The main thing is to ensure today's kids don't have the same future.

This decision was preceded by a "round table" with Russian officials and collaborators from the temporarily occupied territories, where supposedly the experience of countries in which private hospitals "voluntarily refused" to perform abortions was reviewed.
Quote: "The private clinics’ heads were asked to contribute to the demographic situation improvement by refusing to perform abortions. The colleagues positively evaluated this initiative, and today all private clinics in Crimea have officially informed the Crimean Ministry of Health of their voluntary refusal to provide abortion services," Skorupsky noted.
Officials in Russia-annexed Crimea say private clinics have stopped providing abortions
Over his more than two decades in power, Putin has forged a powerful alliance with the Russian Orthodox Church and has put “traditional family values,” as well as boosting the country's declining population, at the cornerstone of his policies.
As part of the effort, authorities in several Russian regions in recent months sought to convince private clinics to stop terminating pregnancies. In Tatarstan in central Russia, officials said about a third have agreed to stop offering abortions; in the Chelyabinsk region in the Ural mountains, several clinics did as well. In the westernmost region of Kaliningrad, local legislators said they were mulling a ban for private clinics.
A nationwide ban is also something lawmakers and Russia's Health Ministry are contemplating, alleging that private clinics frequently violate existing regulations restricting access to abortion.
State statistics show that private clinics in Russia, where free, state-funded health care is available to all citizens, accounted for about 20% of all abortions in recent years. Some women who shared their experiences in pro-abortion online communities said they preferred private clinics where they could get an appointment faster, conditions were better and doctors did not pressure them to continue the pregnancy.
Crimea's Russian-installed health minister, Konstantin Skorupsky, said in an online statement that private clinics on the peninsula some time ago "offered to contribute to improving the demographic situation by giving up providing abortions,” and as of Thursday, all of them had done so.
His statement did not mention the city of Sevastopol, which is administered separately, and it was unclear if private clinics there were still providing abortions.
Two chains of private clinics in Crimea contacted by The Associated Press on Thursday by phone confirmed they no longer provide abortions, citing orders from the management or the authorities. One said it's been about a month since they stopped offering the procedure to women.
[bolding my own]
the use of “demographic situation” is so vile & so clearly colonial

My personal example of extreme Russian influence. Even back before Crimean annexation everyone around me spoke Russian. At home, at kindergarten or at school (we had Ukrainian classes but I was on the first grade when annexation started so we're mostly learn culture instead of actual language.) Literally the only place where I could hear Ukrainian were Ukrainian TV channels for kids.
Looking back on what I can remember, russian influence was extreme even before 2014

This is so interesting for me because it shows just how deeply russian imperialism had sunk its teeth in Ukraine (and other countries throughout centuries). Using language and religion against the nation to hold that nation locked in its influence. I know some will say majority of Ukrainians speak russian, they don't mind etc. And thats the point. The indoctrination of other nations and cultural assimilation of their people so they are barely distinguishable from Russia… That is imperialism 101. It took an independent nation 191 years to perform a religious service in their own language! This shouldn't have taken that long!
I looked through their Telegram (Crimean, not Sevastopolian) for interest. Disgusting stuff that I saw:
— They say that kh***ls (ruzzian slur for ukrainians) don't deserve to live in this word. And also dare to say that Ukrainians are nazi
— Mocking of the Ukraine supporters because they don't reveal themselves while admins of this group did. Like it isn't dangerous for anyone to say something in Ukraine support and that government would react in the same way for us both.
— A lot of criminal cases for people who said or post anything that supports Ukraine or says that Crimea is Ukraine. Including posts in the blocked in Ruzzia social medias like Instagram. And even signature in passport because it looked like words Слава Украине (Glory to Ukraine)
— Mentions of beating up their victims and threating to do so.
The comment section is even worse. I tried to looks through it a bit, but there was such a disgusting amount of ukrainophobia like insults, mocking and even death threats that I just couldn't do it much. It's just so awful. Their main goal is to intimidate Ukrainians in Crimea to make them shut. Maybe they can do this, but it won't change the truth.
Слава Україні

Sevastopol Smersh makes a year-end video of 2023 "successes".
they say we're afraid of them. There may be fear. but more overpowering is disgust at what you are. The sheer pettiness of attacking people who merely sing, speak, post on social media. It shows the paltriness of what russia has to offer-- it's you who's afraid of mere words, trying to suppress thoughts like little wannabe dictators.
We despise you and want no part of your russian microcosm that survives on fear, brutality, humiliation. All sane and free people hate everything you are, and your time is coming.
all who speak up for Ukraine are free in their hearts, and Crimea will be free.
and free people will give you justice.
im so tired of seeing that Ukrainians are "white privileged." WHERE. WHERE THE FUCK. JUST WHERE. Ukrainians and Ukrainian culture whas been OPPRESSED. Ukrainian language and culture has been BANNED from everything by russia CENTURIES AGO. Ukrainian artists and writers have been KILLED AND OPPRESSED AND BANNED from writing literature in Ukrainian. we are literally being KILLED just because we are Ukrainian. what the fuck do you mean by white privilege.
A bit thoughts of russian propaganda in Crimea.
You know, when this started, it was never "Crimea joined Russia." It was "Crimea returned to Russia. Crimea returned into its home harbor" and even those little comments actually work like a huge propaganda. As they make it look like being in Ukraina was something wrong to begin with. That Crimea was always a part of Russia.
And the fact of how much pride they took in that. The last President elections happened on a March 18, the same day when Crimea was annexed officially. I remember we were gifted stickers in that occasion. (Tho I'm a bit unsure if it was connected to annexation or elections). This date coincidence was way too strange to be random.
Then they came to claiming Ukraina as bad (way before invasion). The biggest example I can remember comes from the time when I head that Ukraina was committing a Genocide by closing the North Crimean Canal. Those words sounding so stupid in the fact that in authorities opinion we aren't in Ukraine anymore. And even worse, considering how Russia treats Crimean Tatars.
Another fact about annexation I want to share.
In the next year after the annexation started, we received forms in school where we could choose to study Ukrainian and/or Crimean Tatar languages as a extracurricular activities. But, at the next day, the kids that had chosen to study them got yelled by our homeroom teacher and were forced to refill them. She explained it by the fact that we wouldn't go there anyway and our parents would be forced to pay the salary to the teacher because the government wouldn't if there weren't any classes. (And it sounds so stupid, )
Looking back, it was such a shitty excuse. They basically pretended to give us an option, while throwing it out the moment we had choose option that was 'wrong'

Today, it's ten years since the beginning of occupation of Crimea
This war goes on for ten years.
russian police in occupied crimea has illegally detained indigenous rights activist lutfiye zudieva. she was among very few people documenting russian persecution against crimean tatars

⚠️ Situation at Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant is critical: Expired fuel, unqualified staff, Russian occupation raise new safety concerns.
The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), the largest in Europe, has been occupied by Russian forces since February 2023. This raises serious safety concerns, as the plant is using expired nuclear fuel and is being operated by unqualified personnel.
According to Petro Kotin, chairman of the National Nuclear Energy Company "Energoatom", one of the most critical issues is the presence of expired nuclear fuel in the reactors. The fuel has been there for six years, exceeding the six-year limit set by the manufacturer. This can lead to destruction of fuel cells, which could result in a release of radioactive material.
The situation is further complicated by the fact that the Ukrainian staff that operated the plant was dismissed and replaced by Russian forces. The staff currently present is not qualified to operate the power station, and there are concerns that they may not be able to handle an emergency situation.
In addition, the plant is experiencing problems because of a lack of proper maintenance and infrastructure. This includes a shortage of spare parts and qualified personnel
The consequences of a nuclear accident at ZNPP could be catastrophic. It could release radioactive material into the environment, contaminating a large area and causing widespread illness and death. It could also damage the plant itself, making it difficult or impossible to clean up.
The international community has called for Russia to withdraw its forces from the ZNPP and allow Ukrainian authorities to resume control of the plant. This is the only way to ensure the safety of the plant and prevent a nuclear disaster.
The situation at the ZNPP is a ticking time bomb, and the global community must act to prevent a nuclear disaster.

Good article about Crimea

Not gonna lie, my morale is at the lowest point it's been since the beginning of the invasion. Russians are successfully occupying more and more territories and shell frontline regions every day. People are dying, our culture and herritage is destroyed. International aid dwindled significantly because of american bullshit. Mobilization law has been signed and there is a chance that my family members get conscripted soon. Don't even get me started on internal political problems. A bunch of articles in foreign media talking about our defeat and "peace talks" (what a joke).
It feels like there were no at least moderately good news in a while. On top of that, the feeling that we are screaming into the void is stronger than ever. I'm happy when I see a foreigner online supporting us and spreading the word, because it gets rarer. Ukrainians feel like none of what's happening gets outside our info bubble. Most likely no one but Ukrainians will see this post either. Honestly don't know what to make of all of this.

Mariana, a civilian, was taken hostage by russia back in 2022 in Mariupol. UN and ICRC helped russia to commit this crime. Today Mariana and 74 more Ukrainians came back home from captivity.
According to her mother, Mariana experienced a lot of torture in captivity - she was starved, beaten, and abused in other ways. Due to the conditions of captivity, the girl's health worsened: respiratory tract diseases and tonsillitis turned into chronic bronchitis.
In video she says "Mommy, I'm home. Mommy, I'm in Ukraine".

The man on photos is Roman Gorilik. The senior checkpoint supervisor for the protection of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. He was taken by russia in the begging on invasion and only resently was released with an exchange of prisoners of war after spending over two years in captivity
This is so horrific...
Note #1: I cannot change anything
It has passed more then 10 years since Donetsk was occupied by Russian forces. I decided to write this and (I hope) a couple more texts to describe what was happening there from 2014 to 2022, at the period I was living there. I'm sorry for grammatical mistakes if they occur. It's not an essay, I'm not a writer, I'm writing this primarily for myself to put my thoughts in order, but if somebody finds this text interesting then... I appreciate your interest.
The phenomenon
I pondered where I should start and picked the main thought of a person who lives there and isn't a Russia's strong supporter. I use this formulation because not only pro-Ukrainian people expressed this but also those who just, even slightly, cast doubt on Russian propaganda and occupational regime's statements. This thought is a result of a constant feeling of doom that grew stronger over years of living there.
"I cannot change anything."
Of course, this thought can't be applied to the situation in general and, of course, not all people were that pessimistic. It should be only considered in the context of personal lives and overall feelings. Though there were people who thought they were capable of turning tables upside down here and there and, at last, globally, none of them succeeded. To those who were optimistic enough to not only behave cheerful but also keep up those who were at their lowest points (as your most humble servant), I'm expressing my greatest gratitude.
The beginning
I suppose I will never forget the day when this thought occurred to me for the first time. It was after I handed in my first yearly project in university, in summer 2016. I had a conversation with my supervisor of studies, a very clever and open-minded man, and at some point he mentioned that with our university's diplomas it's impossible to find a job even on the territory controlled by the occupational government, not to mention Russia. I remember the feeling of inner collapse that overflowed me.
I wasn't able to leave the occupied territory. I wasn't able to study in another place. I had neither money nor courage to go somewhere else. I was locked in that small world, physically and mentally. I had had a dream of leaving it, playing cards I was dealt, but at that moment they proved of no use. Everything felt pointless.
I stopped attending university on a regular basis from that moment on.
It's interesting that many other people started to feel the same approximately at the same time because of their own personal causes. It was the period when many people noticed the changes in the flow of time, the stagnation of their lives, the first touch of a repetitive limbo of doom. It's also should be noted that during exactly this period many people of pro-Russian views started to change their minds regarding the chosen side in this conflict. I still don't understand why, but feel that these events connected in some way...
The rotting
As the time passed, nothing changed for the better. If I was asked to describe what was happening to the city during the period from 2014 to 2022 overall, I would call it rotting.
Benches, garbage cans and paving blocks started to disappear from parks and streets. The concrete of the pedestrian roads that came across bridges started to crumble and soon, it was in 2017 when I noticed this for the first time, there's appeared holes in roads through which one could see the river water over which the bridges were built, and these holes kept getting bigger over time. A football stadium that formerly was the city's biggest pride was soon completely overgrown by grass, it's glassy walls disappeared revealing robbed interior.
Large propagandistic posters which unfinished constructions were covered with, flags of the occupational puppet government that could be seen in each restaurant and in each park (restaurants were forced to hang them at the entrances by the local law), the billboards and TV that radiated endless propagandistic messages and talk-shows... They all had an objective of cultivating patriotic feelings and pride for mother-Russia and hatred for Ukraine and "overseas partners".
Everything mentioned above provoked the feeling of the situation being eternal. Everything was rotting, including propaganda, and including our souls. The doom limbo spun like uroboros, devouring itself and all of us.
With the start of the pandemic the closed borders became a bottom line, the symbol of the end of all dreams about a better life, about freedom. And small people like us, not supported by anybody, even by our pro-Russian parents, were doomed by our thoughts and inability to change anything. We felt jaded, miserable, deserted by any hope.
A nightmare is also a dream. That all felt very much like a bad dream. The sleepy depression covered us with it's blanket and we thought that... At least we are alive! At least life's going on! We still have our limbs, heads and friends! Not everything is lost yet, we are still capable of!..
The war
"I cannot change anything."
I remember the night when Putin and Russia recognized their puppets like it was yesterday. I remember when my dear friend from Kazakhstan texted me and asked about my feelings. And I remember how I responded her: "I think the war is inevitable."
Pro-Russian people got what they wanted, at last. Recognition! After all these years! The appeals of puppets' leaders were recorded 2 days prior that day and started with words "Today we signed an agreement", so what? Such a happiness! We are a part of Russia and can live in peace and flourishing, at last!
Ha! Ha-ha...
Then "Ukraine started shelling", "We started evacuation", "'Russia started special military operation'". It's interesting to think about this keeping in mind that all official video-messages about these events were recorded on the same day as the ones about the recognitions.
Until the evening of the first day of the war, I thought that everything was lost. I thought that from that moment on my life will never be mine again. With the fall of Ukraine, the last hope for freedom would shatter.
"I've never been able to change anything. And I'll never be. We'll be imprisoned here until the end of our lives. I'll never see the world, never find peace, never feel safe."
And I don't know how to feel about the fact that only because of this war I eventually found the way to freedom, peace and safety. Here, in Canada, I can be a mere observer of everything that happens in my country enveloped in flames of war.
Now I understand Ukrainians that were living on non-occupied territory of the country from 2014 to 2022.
Now... I can forget about war.
The conclusion
I know that my last statements are very selfish, shame on me. But I cannot actually describe how pleasant it is to feel free eventually. Many of my friends weren't able to take the risk of living their homes and when I talk to them they picture the feeling of that doom being much, very much worse than it was a couple of years ago. As one person told me later, "Sometimes you need courage to run away in fear, and you had it."
I don't feel malicious joy, I'm just sorry. This was a story about feebleness in a nutshell.
Russian culture is ethnic cleansing and islamophobia

Today is an important day to qırımlılar but many of them will be celebrating it in Russian captivity.

Ruslan Mesutov was illegally sentenced by the occupiers to 18 years in prison on charges of alleged "terrorism".
Even though the 58-year-old man's health condition has deteriorated, he is not being provided with appropriate medical care. Ruslan Mesutov is forced to go on hunger strike, because, contrary to his religious beliefs, he is fed food with pork in it. The prison where he is being held is called a "criterion" because of its harshness. There are four people in a damp cell, who are taken for a walk on the roof of the prison once a day.
Life before detention: Ruslan Ametovich Mesutov was born in Uzbekistan, in 1988 he returned to Crimea and got a job as a turner at a factory in Alushta, where he was allocated a land plot.
Later, he brought his parents and sisters to the Crimea, married Elzara Hodzhenova, and had two sons. Ruslan was a member of the Crimean Tatar People's Movement. In the village of Malyi Mayak (Buyuk-Lambat), Ruslan organized the Muslim community "Avdet", which is part of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Crimea, and became one of the founders of the religious community of Alushta. He was a security guard at the mosque, engaged in social activities, organized Muslim holidays, helped with funeral issues, took care of paperwork, and held prayers. Representatives of the occupation authorities detained the man on June 10, 2019, along with other Crimean Tatars. The occupation investigators charged Mesutov with violation of Part 1 of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Organization of a terrorist organization"), which provides for imprisonment for a term of 15 to 20 years. And even Part 1 of Articles 30 and 278 of the Russian Criminal Code ("Preparation for the violent seizure of power by an organized group by prior conspiracy"), which provides for up to ten years in prison. In May 2020, Ruslan was transferred to the territory of the Russian Federation. An illegal sentence was handed down on August 16, 2021, and the man was sentenced to 18 years in a strict regime colony with a 1-year and 6-month restriction on his freedom after release. Mesutov was arrested two weeks before the court hearing, which was to consider the claim of the religious community of Alushta regarding the transfer of the city mosque by the occupation administration to the illegal formation of the "Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Crimea". The main real reason for Ruslan Mesutov's detention is his religious and public activities, identity, and support for his people. The 58-year-old man is being held in a Russian prison in the Lipetsk region. According to his lawyer, Siyar Panich, his client's health condition has deteriorated and he is not being provided with medical care. Since November 2022, Ruslan has had difficulties with nutrition, as pork has been introduced into the main diet. According to his religious beliefs, Ruslan Mesutov does not eat such food. The Muslims serving their sentences in this institution wrote an appeal to the administration, but the problem has not yet been resolved.
The political prisoner's Quran was also taken away from him. "The Quran in Arabic was taken away from Mesutov to be examined by a specialist, who said it was a 'normal Quran' and not an 'extremist' one. Since then, since November, he hasn't been able to get it back, and it depresses him quite a bit," said lawyer Volodymyr Bilenko.

That how our people look like and behave when they're finally free from Russian captivity.
