She tried to be quiet in the mornings.
Tsuu and Ravern were kind enough to be quiet at night, though Milli could occasionally hear the squeak of their bedframe. It was only fair that she not try to wake them when they were doing their best not to wake her.
She wasn't usually one for coffee unless it was the third day of sleeplessness and she needed to be awake, but Ravern kept scolding her for not taking advantage of their hospitality. Milli figured the easiest way to remedy that was to appear to be drinking their coffee and eating their food. Which she was, just maybe not as much as the two women would like.
Her bed was in a comfortable room downstairs and she could stare out the window, watch the ebb and flow of the water in the bay. She liked the opposition of the cold sea air and the warm coffee. Her warm bed.
Widget was curled up on her pillow. They shared the space. Which meant she ended up with a corner of the pillow while Widget took what he wanted. It was the way of the cat and Milli had long ago accepted it. She petted him idly.
The testing had been successful. Now it was just a matter of lining her coat with the myomer strands and capacitors. Perhaps adding a battery pack to the inside of the coat just in case. In the end, the coat would be a bit bulkier than before, but Ravern had been confident she could make the design and padding render most of the alterations nearly invisible.
In a day or two she'd be done. She could go home.
Milli wasn't sure how she felt about that. Once she did that, she would be vulnerable again. Less so because of the coat, but still...
She needed to work on other skills. Learn to defend herself. Learn how to be more than just a victim waiting to happen. Which meant hard work. Like she was doing with Syrean and Tia to learn to shoot. Acquiring new skills. Ones she didn't already have the basics of.
She was never one to shy from hard work, but this was different. It would mean taking time away from her shop on a regular basis. It would mean her late nights would all be filled.
"Maybe the empty bed won't bother me so much," she whispered to herself. Hoping it would be true.
