Rose finding Eternatus, probably.

So, uhm,

Untitled eternatus game

First off, I take no credit for this theory! It belongs to @tetheredavian74 , she just gave me permission to make a post about it!

Her theory is this: Rose is a time traveler.

Something horrible happened a thousand years in the future and he went back in time to make sure it could never happen by any means necessarry. That's why he had his whole speech about how the people of galar today wont matter in a millenium and talking about how he's going to change the course of history. It's also how he was able to develop such advanced technology. Plus he turns himself in afterwards. He doesnt try to run or hide or say he was in the right; his job was done.

POV: you’re professor Magnolia, just trying to research your groundbreaking study of the dynamax phenomenon, when the baffoon known as the chairman walks in with a small unidentified god and asks you for first time parenting advice.

Let’s talk about one of my many eternatus AUs. I don’t have a proper name for this AU, but in my notes I have it listed as “Rose gets a big ol’ dose of being a good dad”.

the AU starts out back when the dynamax phenomenon is still only just been discovered. Professor Magnolia is working with macro cosmos to develop the dynamax bands along with other related tech. So of course Rose has amassed a large number of wishing stars. And put most of them in a secure room for storage.

Now in case you don’t know, I personally headcanon that eternatus can be be built from wishing stars like zygarde is built from cells. So by leaving a ton of wishing stars in container Rose unintentionally creates a perfect scenario for eternatus to revive. Inevitably does in fact eternatus revive, and the sudden influx of energy this releases knocks out the security cams in the storage room. This triggers a security alarm, and the room goes into lock down.

Meanwhile, eternatus is attempting to reform its entire body. Problem is that while there were enough wishing stars to revive eternatus, there is not enough for eternatus to reconstruct itself at full size. It realizes this after temporarily becoming an unstable version of canon eternatus (think eternatus, but melting). So eternatus settles into a form it can sustain with its current number of wishing stars. That form happens to be a small baby eternatus.

At this point chairman Rose arrives along with security. Rose was anticipating intruders trying to steal the wishing stars, or possibly the aftermath of the wishing stars having a volitile reaction to something. Instead Rose finds the container that used to hold wishing stars seemingly exploided from the inside out, and a pokemon that his pokedex can’t identify. So while security tries to figure out what happened, Rose is tasked with taking care of eternatus. Oleana is the one who figures out that eternatus what happened to the wishing stars. She puts 2 and 2 together after finding out that pointing a power spot detector at eternatus causes the detector to go haywire. Rose then realizes that he unintentionally caused eternatus to exist and to take on full responsibility for its welfare.

Rose then realizes that he has no clue how to care for a previously undiscovered legendary and goes to professor Magnolia for help.

From there the AU is about Rose raising eternatus, adopting Bede, and taking on a bit of a father role for Leon. Basically instead of becoming a villain, Rose becomes everyone’s dad.

the conflict comes with Rose being aware that people with bad intentions would 100% take advantage of eternatus (who has been growing a lot in the past years), and so Rose is trying to balance his family time with Bede, his work responsibilities, and keeping Eternatus from being found by the public/an evil organization from finding out about it’s existence. Unfortunately for Rose, Sordward and Shielbert find out about eternatus.

Random notes

Rose first meets Leon due to eternatus wandering off and then running into Leon. Eternatus is usually skittish around strangers, but instantly warmed up to the future champion.

Bede specializes in fairy types because of growing up training with eternatus. 

If you’re wondering why Rose looks different in the drawing from how he looks in game, it’s because I loosely based his look off of a poster of a younger Rose you can find in spikemuth.

Bonus:

So, uh, I have a very self indulgent AU about Eternatus raising Rose. Basically I took the fact that the main bit of lore we have about Rose's past is that he used to work in coal mines and ran with it.

Now keep in mind that I came up with this AU pre the crown tundra being announced, so I haven't worked peony into this yet.

So the basic concept is that Rose is an orphan who was working in the coal mines. After a cave in separates Rose from the rest of the mines, he wanders until he runs into a strange cavern with an even stranger pokemon.

Instead of being out of comission, eternatus has been living deep inside caverns that are near the galar mines.

Eternatus takes one look at Rose and thinks "I guess I'm it's mom now". Cue the tooth rotting fluff.

Various notes:

Eventually people find Rose and eternatus. They almost get BBQ-ed when they tried taking Rose from eternatus.

Opal was sent in to try and solve the situation. It ends with eternatus and Opal co parenting Rose.

Eternatus gave Rose's copperajah the ability to gigantamax so it could protect Rose when eternatus wasn't around.

Rose still grows up to be the chairman. Oleana's job is basically to help remind Rose to human.

Rose actually is the person who owns the wild area technically. After hearing that a construction company was planning on bulldozing large parts of it, Rose said "absolutely not my adoptive pokemon mum lives there". So he buys it before the construction company can, and turns it into the wild are as we know it.

Rose adopts Bede. Eternatus and Opal are proud grandmothers who dote in Bede.
