Prompt: Reunion (Discord Drabble)
It's probably too much, Steve thinks as he pulls into the Buckley's driveway a solid hour before Robin estimated she would be back.
His best friend was finally coming home from college on break, arriving back in Hawkins at some point mid-afternoon with her parents. Steve had attempted (and failed) to convince her to drive herself back in her shitbox of a first car but she was still too anxious despite having her license for almost a full year now.
He'd even tried (and failed) to swoop in and drive interstate to pick her up himself but well, she does have a family that wants to see her just as bad. And it's not like this was the first time, either. Nor have they ever gone more than a week without a lengthy phone call Steve made sure would end up on his own phone bill.
But seeing Robin, being surprised by a new hairstyle, listening to her talk a mile a minute before she starts losing her breath, eagerly awaiting whatever still-somewhat-musty thrifted item she shows up in...
Steve cuts the engine and steps out of the Beemer. He decides to settle for sitting under the pine tree that towers over the Buckley's house, its size dwarfing the property so much that the roots have grown under – and cracked – the driveway in parts.
It's hot today, the true heat of summer coming just a few weeks earlier than usual.
Undeterred by the stupid decision to opt for jeans, Steve waits...
By the time the Buckley's car pulls into the driveway, Steve is already on his feet, pacing in the shade and periodically checking his watch.
Richard doesn't even get the car into park before Robin opens the back door on the driver's side a jumps out, her mother's chiding voice following – something about the dangers of such an action that is said in a way that makes Steve think his best friend's general fears about vehicular travel stems from her mother.
"Steve!" Robin beams, swishing her hair (this time, its regular light brown with the slightest hint of auburn) from her face in haste as she runs to him.
Her jacket is jangling as she goes, the red leather adorned with endless badges and chains.
"Rob!" he says, taking a single large stride to close the gap between them and Robin jumps into his arms, the pair of them oof-ing at the impact.
He only just manages to steady them before they fall, knocked askew as Robin wraps her gangly legs around his waist.
"I missed you!" they yell in unison.
Steve having siblings much older than him gives me life
in a shocking turn of events, steve harrington has siblings. quite a few actually. and in another turn, steve isn't even his first name.
in fact, it's his third.
finding this out was a shock, especially since it wasn't from steve that everyone found out.
steve was in the bathroom fixing his hair when the phone rang, and he shouted down to robin who was in the living room to go ahead and answer it.
"hello, harrington residence?"
"uh. can i talk to eli, please?"
robin paused. who the hell is eli?
"um, sorry. there's no eli here..." she trailed unsurely, moving to hang up the phone.
"oh sorry. uh, steve. can i talk to steve? it's his sister, marianne."
robin almost dropped the phone, steve had a sister?
"oh, sure. one second."
she covered the phone with her hand and called out for the boy. "steve! your sisters on the phone!"
she didn't get the response she thought she would, because he called back, "which one?"
"marianne!"
and suddenly he was beside her, grabbing the phone and shooing her away.
while he spoke to his sister, robin made herself busy, grabbing steve's walkie and alerting the rest of the party of the new development.
"guys. steve's name isn't steve, it's eli! and he has siblings! plural!"
the cacophony that this statement caused was almost overwhelming, and by the time steve was done talking to marianne, eddie, dustin, and the rest of the rugrats were at the door begging for explanation.
steve was confused, until eddie looked him in the eye with a smug glint and breathed, "hey, eli." and the time it took for steve's face to turn cherry red was record breaking.
"uh. what? why- uh. why did you call me that?"
robin looked at him blankly, "i answered the phone, dingus. marianne started asking for eli."
steve sighed, "okay so like. here's the thing. Steve is my middle name- well one of them. and i only go by eli around family." the group stared. "we didnt know you had a family." dustin said flatly.
"well i had to get here somehow." steve retorted, and eddie chuckled. "he meant we didn't know you had siblings, eli."
"okay. don't call me that, and yeah. i have six, im the seventh. everyone else is a lot older than me."
his audience was placated with that answer, for now at least.
and when everyone but eddie left, the house was filled with breathy sighs of "eli." followed by soft giggles.
and soon they weaseled out his full name. which turned to be a resounding "Eli Reginald Stefano Harrington. The third."
followed by a shocked,
"The third?!"

Alright, so, I want to write a soulmate story, but I can’t quite decide if I want them to be platonic or romantic soulmates. Like, maybe it’s just me as the author, but I feel like the interactions between the characters is constantly stuck somewhere between “oh I like this person let’s hang out with them” and “oh shit I like-possibly love-this person“ and it’s a bit frustrating. I can’t seem to get them to be just platonic or just romantic. So my question is does anyone have any good fic recommendations where it’s a open/ambiguous relationship? I think that might be easier to write. It’s fine if it’s not a soulmate AU, as long as it’s not like 10+ chapters with deep world-building and plot.

Shawn and Gus have completely ruined all other platonic soulmates for me. They have no equal.
i found my best friends “secret” youtube channel and i was like half expecting to find a bunch of videos of her talking shit about me (she’s great but i got like past trauma or whatever) but instead i found her telling silly little stories that im involved in and saying “love love love her” about me i actually cried it was so sweet. if u think there’s no such thing as platonic soul mates THINK AGAIN i literally love her more than anything we’re just meant to be together but there’s like —1000000 romance involved. we’re like sisters but better cuz she hates her sisters (jking she probably doesn’t actually hate them idk) fun fact we’re also like fourth cousins or something so LITERALLY meant to be. it’s written in the stars<3
