It confuses me immensely why people buy books so that they can read them for the first time like really you don't have a library or a friend who can lend it to you???? all that to deter you- no free book opportunities- and you still want to read it That Bad????

i get it if the book is insanely cheap
or if you really just got it for the cover art
or if it's the next book in a series you already know you like
or maybe even if you just really like this author
but going to a random bookstore and just. picking a random book out
not even a secondhand store
and not just a one-time thing
like why would you spend so much money on that kind of risk when LIBRARIES exist
