i bought this jalapeño as a wee babby seedling at my local farmer’s market around mid-july and i really need to get the greenhouse’s heating system working before it starts dipping too far below light jacket weather
sorry about the lack of real content lately, depression and anxiety have been kicking my ass and so i havent been able to do much more than interview a handful of birds. thank you for your patience, and in return please enjoy some small things i have seen which help the world seem less dark.
today marked the opening of bud the jalapeño's first flower since nearly dying from the double blow of frost and spider mite infestation

hey do any of you have any tricks and/or tips on not succumbing to the dark and icy grip of despair? i am having a lot more difficulty than normal given both the physical and political climate and i could use some external thoughts on how to keep one’s heart from freezing over.
in return please have my current ember, the only epazote seedling that survived my tragic mistake of placing trust in other people. they are just barely 2cm tall.

five years ago if you had told me that i was a girl, that i would have multiple people who actively wanted me to be part of their lives, that i would have my own actual for real greenhouse to grow plants in, that tens of thousands of people have read something i wrote, that i would want for the most part to stay alive... i probably would have broke down crying. which, i mean, i did cry every time one of those things happened so
(i am an emotional person; it is very easy to make me cry)
anyway, my point is that my life has gotten exponentially better since i learned that i am trans, and i am grateful that i have had a chance to learn and grow and not just survive, but thrive.
my internal monologue right now can best be summed up as incoherent screeching.

i have successfully made applewine and it does NOT fuck around. good lord. VERY dry, i added a can of concentrated apple juice and it is now drinkable but angry about it; a few months in the bottle and it should be fine for sharing
not sure of abv because i couldnt afford a hydrometer when i started, but it tastes about as strong as good wine or sake so probably somewhere between 12-15%
one gallon of applejuice in the big glass jug for maximum hooch aesthetic
one half-packet of yeast, i went with belle saison because thats what the tutorial i was following used and the guy seemed a trustworthy enough sort
two and a half cups of sugar
one can of applejuice concentrate (added at end, may be bad mistake)
it’s... a fairly straightforward process? pour out some applejuice into a cup and add the yeast to it. pour out some MORE applejuice in a DIFFERENT cup to make sure you have enough room for the other ingredients. add the sugar to the big jug, cap it, and shake it around until it is all dissolved. add in the contents of the yeast and applejuice cup, and then add in some of the plain applejuice cup until the bottle is mostly full (but leave some headroom in case it gets frothy). cap with an airlock and set it in a cool-ish (70f/21c) dark-ish environment.
leave your home and spend a couple nights with a partner you love desperately but never get to see because of schedule conflicts. have them teach you that it is possible to enjoy pot without massive debilitating panic attacks. the next morning travel to boston and live there for a month and a half. meet cool people and weird cats. rescue a tomato plant growing in the cracks of a stop&shop parking lot. learn how to make sourdough bread. message your uncle/boss and ask him to put the bottle in the refrigerator when the airlock stops bubbling because you’re still in boston. convince your mom to make and send you edibles. admire the sky. make and eat a LOT of sourdough bread. travel to connecticut to visit a good friend youve had a crush on for years. get so high with her that you are unable to competently play kirby’s dream course. go home and realize that you dont have the money to buy racking equipment until the next patreon goes through. wait. get paid, spend immediately a third of it on bottles and sanitization and siphon and bottle filling wand and a really cute witch hat because you got a ten dollar amazon gift card from a research study and you figure why not spend it on that. wait for it all to arrive.
if you followed the previous steps correctly, about 67 days should have elapsed and you are ready to sanitize all of your equipment and bottle it up!
if there are any yeast still alive, the applejuice concentrate i added when racking it might restart fermentation and turn the bottles into bombs, so i am keeping my fingers crossed that its all dead.

i know im supposed to be weirded out by the label saying this baking powder was partially produced with genetic engineering but honestly that just makes it cooler
obsessed with crispy fried eggs; extremely good summation of all the things which make fried eggs great. alternately crisp and tender, solid and flowing, they have become an immediate addition to basically all of my meals. sadly in my Greed For Egg i forgot to add salt before devouring this one, but it was delicious nonetheless
