forest legend au
Sun and Moon are both funny little creatures that live in a marshy forest. Sun is a Will-O-Wisp and Moon is (of course) mothman kinda thing.
also a kid gives them salt and they rob hikers of all glowy things
They befriend a kid (her name is Nell and I just made her up 3 days ago but I love her) who thinks they're cool and gives them salt and stuff (hush the salt is important I promise) and lives on the edge of their forest with her dad (Cason) who's a biologist and Does Not Believe in those legends thank you very much
(cue Nell stealing salt for Sun and Cason's just like: what do you need that much salt for? Nell: *continues shoveling salt in a bag* reasons Cason: o kay don't take all of it??? *finds the salt container empty later* )
anyways they're both just mischeivious little guys who trick people who come into the forest and mess with them (and steal all their shiny/glowy stuff because Moon likes it and why not) but they both love kids and actually help them instead of scaring them
Why salt? you ask
well if you add certain minerals/chemicals to fire, it will make it burn different colors, and because will-o-wisps are basically fireballs here, they feed on different minerals to sustain them
and the mineral differs depending on their color, for example, Sun, as a yellow will-o-wisp consumes salt (specifically NaCl aka table salt aka halite)

“Oh yes,” said Omen, tone reminiscent. “Old Mentor went mad trying to stop me, poor dear.”
“You drove him crazy! You weaponised his own mind against him,” Kit said, hatred colouring his voice. Omen smirked.
“I was going to do the same to you,” said Omen, his voice flowing through Kit’s ears like liquid silver. “It’s a favourite of my many gifts. Not at all fit for combat like lightning or water, but I can break you without breaking a sweat. Even before I took your mind you couldn’t lift a finger against me.”

Omen.
It was a whisper, a rumour, the bogeyman - nobody who met him lived to tell about it, or if they did, they didn't remember. Almost everything about him was unknown until he drove Mentor mad and claimed the notoriety for bringing the world's greatest Superhero to heel.
On his first solo mission, Kit, the hero Malyn, gets far more than he ever bargained for. Omen takes Kit as a trophy, a play-thing, a puppet - addicted to being Kit's biggest fear.
Will Kit escape Omen, or is he doomed to be Omen's puppet forever, or worse... end up like Mentor - mind melted, hospitalised, and scared of his own shadow?
Main Characters
Kit Mallory (22) — Malyn
Kit showed incredible promise in the young Hero Academy and was offered to be Mentor's sidekick, the greatest Superhero in the world. Kit took the offer, Mentor taking him under his wing as if he were family and soon that's what they grew to be; family.
After Omen attacks Mentor, Kit's entire life is uprooted, unraveling before him and he's consumed by vengeance, promising Mentor he would avenge him. He just didn't expect to meet Omen so soon, so suddenly, so unaware.
He’d be damned if he let Omen know that.
Oskar Ambrose (29) — Omen
Not much is known about Ambrose. That’s the way he likes it. The less people that know about him the better, and yet, there was something about Malyn that he couldn’t quite put his finger on. Something like a puzzle that he wanted to solve.
Never before had anyone made Ambrose not want to use his powers to force them to submit. Malyn… he was like the gift that keeps on giving— life is too short not to abuse a Hero every once in a while. If during the course of his meddling it happened to further his own agenda, well — that would just be an added bonus.

“Ruggie? Have you seen my clothes? I’ve been looking for them all day—”
The hyena looked up when you appeared in the doorway to the laundry room of Savanaclaw, your panicked voice filling his sensitive ears. Wincing slightly, Ruggie’s gaze returned to the laundry basket on the ground that was filled to the brim with clothes that needed to be washed and dried.
Bending down when something unusually colourful passed his eyes, he grabbed the brightly pink-coloured sweater by its sleeve and pulled it up for you to see. “Do you mean…” he asked, dangling it around in the air, “something like this?”
“Yes! Yes!” you yelled out in relief as you snatched your beloved sweater right out of his hands. From the sheer relief that ran through your veins, you almost forgot to ask what your sweater was doing in Savanclaw’s laundry. Halting in your tracks, you raised your narrowed eyes to look at Ruggie, as if interrogating him. “But wait, what was my sweater doing here?”
“I’m not sure… all I know is that a pink sweater in Leona’s laundry basket seemed quite suspicious,” Ruggie admitted, his tail guiltily tugged inbetween his legs. “But, he quickly shut me up with a good sandwich— so, I never questioned him when more and more girlish clothing piled up.”
You let out a sigh before slapping yourself. “Ruggie!” you cried out in disappointment. “You should have told me!”
Laughing along nervously, he shot you a sheepish smile — one that was met by an angry scowl. “…you never asked?” was his attempt at an excuse, but he was quickly silenced when the intensity of your glare became even worse. Throwing his hands into the air, an exasperated cry escaped his lips. “Fine, I’m sorry! That sandwich was too good.”
