You grew up alone in the hidden leaf village being left on the door steps of the third hokage. The only reason he knew you were apart of the hidden L/n clan was based off of a tattoo you had on your ankle.

He and a select few knew what had happened to your clan the horrible massacre that took upon your family leaving you an orphan. The third hokage gladly took you in a raised you as his own daughter but was clear to make sure to not hide who you were and what your past consisted of.

You now at the age of 18 could master all five nature transformations. You went through intense training after the chunin exams and went through hidden training but sometimes the third would have you train with an actual team. And the team he chose was Gai sensei.

That’s when you first met Neji Hyuga, you were both the same age and had the same set of skills. At that time you could only master two of the nature transformations, water release and wind release.

“Third Hokage what a surprise.” Gai said walking into the room, you kept your head down on your paper writing down things to study. “This is Y/n. I would like for you to train her with your team for now.” Gai gladly accepted and brought you to the training grounds where everyone else was waiting.

Lee, Ten and Neji all looked at you with different expressions which made you feel uncomfortable. “Y/n, why don’t you show us what you can do so I can better evaluate you.” Gai spoke moving out the way letting you have the space to show off your technique.

Using you water and wind release together creating ice, Gai and Lee praised your skill while Ten sat their admiring it in silence and Neji scoffed turning away in dissatisfaction.

From that day forward a hatred for the stuck up Neji Hyuga started to form. What made it worse was that it wasn’t hatred at all, you had actually liked him a lot not just for his skill and preservation but for his personality and the person that he holds himself to be. You respected him, but you would never fool yourself to have those type of feelings so the best way to ignore them is by ignoring him.

Currently at the rank Jonin you were sent on many missions along with Neji who became the same rank around the same time you did. This last mission you attended took over a few months to complete and by the time you came back it was evident how much you physically changed.

“Y/N!!!” Sakura and Ten ran over to you greeting you at the entrance of the gate, you gave the both of them a hug and smiled at how much you missed your friends. “Look at you, you are practically glowing.” Ten said grabbing your hand and spinning you around, “Now that you’re here, you can join us on this trip that we were all getting ready to leave for.” Sakura said wrapping her arm around yours while Ten held onto the bag you were carrying.

“I guess. I don’t have any upcoming missions so I guess.” Sakura squealed in excitement, “Neji just came back a few days ago too so that means everyone’s here.” “Wait what?” You said stopping in your tracks. “Yeah. It’s just a trip for us, a few days by a lake a ways out. It’s supposed to be really fun.” Ten said and you immediately shook your head in disagreement.

“I can’t go.” “Why because of Neji? I don’t know what you two have going on, you two have hated each other ever since you joined the team.” Ten said walking forward towards your house with Sakura pulling on your arm. “I hate stuck up people. Simple. Not everyone has lived the life that he has or anyone else.” You say looking down at your ankle at you clan tattoo.

“Well suck it up for a week. Can you do that? We all missed you. It never fails that you tend to take missions that last months.” Sakura complained as you three arrived at your house, you thanked the both of them and went inside to unpack what you didn’t need.

You were the last to arrive at the lake due to just coming back from an extended mission so everyone was expecting you to be late. When you arrived Lee, Naruto, Shikamaru and Choji attacked you with hugs and greetings, Neji stayed sitting down where he was sitting while you greeted everyone but him.

“How was the mission? I’m sure it was easy for you but why did it take so long and why was it extended?” Shikamaru asked, “Yeah? When we heard from the granny that your mission was extended we couldn’t understand why. We all assumed you got injured or something.” Naruto asked adding onto Shikamaru questions.

“I finished the mission a couple of months ago. I did get injured which kept me there for at most a week. After that I wanted to stay, the village itself was beautiful and I learned a lot about myself and my techniques there.” You said pushing a small piece of hair behind your ear. You unconsciously looked over at Neji who was staring at you, furrowing your eyebrows you looked away and started to bite on your fingernail.

Recently anytime you would think about Neji this heated feeling would erupt inside of you and now that he was here infront of you didn’t make it any better. “I’d rather not talk about it Lady Tsunade.” She let out an exhaustive sigh then placed a hand on your cheek, “if you ever feel like talking then come to me, but for now I’m with holding you from missions.” “What?!” You stepped closer to try and protest but she held her hand up to stop you. “You have no one left. You’re being too lax with your life and I won’t have you killing yourself because you have no one to come back too. Use this time to heal and train. That’s all.” With that she walked away and the tears you were holding started to fall.

Out of pure frustration you punched a nearby tree as hard as you could with a chakra filled fist. You ended up taking out more than one tree but you didn’t care, the blood dripping from your hand didn’t force you to care either. Deciding to call it a night you were walking through the village towards your home with the tears kept blurring your eyes and you ended up bumping into someone.

“I’m sorry.” You said in a whisper gently patting their chest before walking away, it took another few minutes for you to get home but when you did it was like all hell broke loose. Continuous tears fell down your face as the impending feeling of loneliness crept onto you. She was right, you truly had no one…you were alone and you couldn’t do anything about it.

The only family you had died while you were laying around on a mission because you didn’t feel like coming home. And all your life you pushed away affection afraid to feel something more that what you’re used too. Pain. For the rest of the night you cried over things you had no control over.

“Has anybody seen Y/n?” Sakura asked walking up to the group, Naruto, Choji, Lee and Ten looked at each other and shook their heads no. “She’s probably sulking at home.” Shikamaru said taking a bite of whatever he was eating leaving the group confused. “What do you mean sulking?” Ten asked.

“Lady Tsunade told her she’s not allowed to go on any missions for a while.” “WHY??” Sakura sat up, “she’s being doing missions since she was ten…why would she stop her?” Choji contemplated. “Exactly. Do you guys know how injured she got during her last mission?” Shikamaru paused looking at the group who shook their head no.

“She almost died, she was in a coma for three months.” He finished his statement then stuffing some more food in his mouth, “No way, she said she liked the scenery that’s why she stayed.” “Lied.” He quickly responded.

“If that is true how come you’re the only one who knows that?” Naruto asked rubbing his chin in confusion, “Because, Tsunade made me go check on her whenever she stopped checking in. I’m the one who reported back to her.” The whole group went silent, after a few moments Neji who was sitting there silent stood up and left the area.

His feet took him straight to your entrance doorsteps. He thought it was weird how you ran into him a couple of days ago and didn’t even recognize that it was him, yes you had tears in your eyes but it was just different for him. It was weird, he was worried about you. More than worried, he was scared that you’d do something to yourself.

He knocked on the door and waited for a moment then knocked again and still no answer. Using his byakugan he found you in a room knees pressed against your chest and your face hidden. He knocked again and when he saw you didn’t even flinch he forcefully opened the door. You still didn’t move, he closed the door behind himself and quickly walked to where you were.

He stood by the doorframe watching you sit there crying. You didn’t even look up to see who the intruder was, you just sat there crying. Neji bent down and pushed his arms under your body to pick you up, he held you flush against his body and brought you to your bedroom.

Laying you down on the bed he was about to feel your forehead to see if you had a fever but you turned your back to him and silently cried. “Y/n-” “just leave Neji.” You harshly spoke voice cracking when you said his name, he stood there contemplating what to do. He’s never seen you this vulnerable, even when you came back from your mission to find the only person you ever really loved was dead. You never broke down, even after years.

“I never listened to you when we were kids so why would I do it now?” He could see you roll yours eyes but that didn’t stop him from pushing you aside and laying in the bed next to you. He pulled your blanket over your body then maneuvered both of your bodies to where you were cuddling up against him. “What are you doing.” You said trying stop your voice from cracking again but failed miserably, uncontrollable tears fell from your eyes once again. You hid your face in his neck and just basked in his embrace.

This was the first time someone ever held you, it was an unfamiliar feeling and your body just broke down. Neji was happy, he was happy that the dam you build was finally collapsing and that he was the one that was here for you. When your sniffles went quiet he glanced down noticing you fell asleep, you looked exhausted. Like you hadn’t slept in days, trying to keep quiet he laid you against your pillow and left you alone in your bedroom.

When you woke up hours later you were met with an empty bed, your face dropped tears prickling in your eyes again but stopped when you heard his voice. “Don’t cry again, I’m right here.” Neji walked into the room with a tray filled with your favorite foods and a couple of freshly picked flowers.

He set the tray down on your lap and then sat down in the chair that was positioned right next to your bed. “Thank you.” You said noticing how dark it was outside, “you’ve been asleep all day, I came in to wake you up.” You thanked him again and started taking a bite out of the food. Your cheeks started to heat up from how good it was, it had been so long since you had home cooked meals that your eyes glasses over.

“Don’t cry. If you want me to cook for you again just ask.”

That statement repeated in your head as you stood there in the rain infront of the tombstone with the small child pressed against your chest. “Neji…” the tears falling down your cheek were being masked by the rain, thankfully so that your daughter wouldn’t see her mother crying.

Your husband alway told you to be strong and to not cry. You weren’t alone anymore, he promised to stay by your side but he lied. You were weird in the eyes of Neji Hyuga.

Why were you wearing a blindfold? Were you blind? It was the first thing he wondered when he saw you.

He still remembers when he saw you for the first time, since you were the first thing that caught his eye next to the Uchiha in the chunin exams. But unlike the arrogant Uchiha boy, you were different and for some reason he couldn't get close to you.

'Ridiculous' he thought at the thought of being nervous in front of you, perhaps it was the uncertainty of knowing who you were and what you could do. Neji also didn't know why he cared for you when they had to enter the forest of death, he would later realize that even though he tried to stay away from people and tried to justify all his bad behavior by 'fate', he by default was still a child and he was worried about someone, Someone who might be disabled.

'Why were you a ninja if you can't see?'

Neji also didn't know how to react when he saw you again when he and his team passed the forest of death, he didn't know why he was relieved to see you alive. But he knew that you were strong and not weak as he supposed before, you knew how to fend for yourself. He knew it when you fought your opponent in those Preliminary Trials.

You had highly developed senses, you defeated your opponent quickly and effectively. After a few months you had become a chunnin together with that ponytailed boy after passing the third test.

Neji didn't see you again until a few years later.

It had been a few weeks since he had become a Jonin, neji was going to a training camp to further improve his combat skills, when he got to the field that's when he saw you, you hadn't changed much you were still wearing that bandage for the Eyes, you weren't throwing kunais or doing katas, you were leaning against a tree… you were meditating or at least that's what he thought, since you had that blindfold on your eyes. Sometimes Neji would offer you to join his training, but you would always refuse, arguing that you had already trained earlier in the day.

Neji wasn't even bothered by your presence, something felt good when you were around him, as if it was meant to be from the beginning, but he would deny himself at the thought of being in love with you. That's how you two continued until it became so common to spend your time together that you started going out to other places. Sometimes you would go out to eat, other times just to walk and enjoy the sunset together.

He remembers wanting to guide you the first time they walked together, Neji was afraid that you would fall or bump into someone and get hurt, but you denied his help arguing that he shouldn't worry. 'Stubborn' was what he thought, but instead of giving his opinion he trusted you, it turns out that you were good at guiding yourself, even if you couldn't see anything, Neji began to respect you more after that day.

Today In the present Tsunade-sama had put you on a mission together, the mission was easy, you just had to deliver some important papers to the Daimyo of another village, but things stopped being so easy when you were ambushed by enemy ninjas.

The fight had been hard, since some of them had forbidden Jutsus and from what he could see with his Byakugan you were forced to take off your blindfold. You were faster and more agile than you were before, since now you could see where you were going, but if you could see why cover your eyes?

It was the second thing he asked you after first asking if you were okay and then reaching a safe place to rest after defeating the enemy ninjas.
