what is your lore behind your gargoyles & litches?
Thanks for the ask Wyked! I love species creation (I blame dnd) and generally make lore by treating existing lore as 'stories humans made up' and working backwards from there.
Here's my lore so far! 👇
Gargoyles
Description: Hard skin and hard heads. This long-lived species moves through life at their own pace, and often are considered aloof or un-emotive. They live about 1000 years and age slowly. Appearance: A wide range of stone colored skin tones. Bat-like wings, claws, and sharp lower canines. They barely bleed when you cut them, but the blood is red. Abilities: Enhanced strength and sight. Stone Skin: Bonus to physical defenses. Density Control: Able to control their own density/weight at will. This is how gargoyles are able to fly. Statuesque: Gargoyles are able to stop all motion and signs of life within themselves for extended periods of time, and be perfectly comfortable while doing so. They are able to sleep standing up with their eyes open if they wish. This state is difficult to get out of and will result in a period of sluggishness lasting half the time that they were using their Statuesque ability. (ex. Using Statuesque for 4hrs will cause 2hrs of sluggishness.) Weaknesses: They are slow to resist magic and abilities involving emotional manipulation. Sunlight Adverse: Sunlight can negatively affect their density control abilities, making them extremely heavy and slow-moving, even to the point of being unable to move at all.
Litches
Description: A generally nocturnal species that evolved from a lost and powerful race many many millennia ago. They live for about 125 years. They are genetically related to witches and bleed red. Appearance: They resemble humans, at first, but many have runic shapes adorning their skin like tattoos. The more they have, the lighter their eyes become and the more vacant their expressions. Abilities: Moderate nightvision. Perceptive to recognizing Litch/Witch type magic. Their magic is selfish, and can only be used to benefit themself. They can crate runic tattoos which alter any single trait. These runes are permanent and have a cost- for each power gained they lose some connection with reality. Casting abilities are stronger at night/in darkness and require a significant casting time. Weaknesses: Can eventually become extremely powerful zombie-like horrors due to loss of sanity as they gain more power. Without runes, they are the weakest species in the district, and possibly average weaker than humans. Poor nighvision compared to other Du'Preve'd species. They can be more susceptible to the adverse effects of pollution in Du’Preve
That's what I currently have! It may change when we introduce characters from these species though.
