Knuckles Isn't Stupid Just Inexperienced When It Comes To Society And People - Tumblr Posts

YA’LL I WANNA TALK ABOUT KNUCKLES FOR A MINUTE

PREPARE FOR A RAMBLE

now you have no idea how OVERJOYED I am seeing Knuckles in the new trailer, ESPECIALLY because he’s THE RIVAL AGAIN. HE’S SERIOUS AND A LEGIT CHARACTER. HE’S NOT A JOKE OR A MEME. HE’S NOT BEING USED AS A DUMB JOCK OR A HALF-ASSED CHARACTER. I CAN JUST SENSE THAT FROM THAT RAW LINE THAT THEY REALLY GAVE AN ACTUAL SHIT AND WANTED TO DO KNUCKLES RIGHT!! 

And of course i’m SO HAPPY that he’s being given the respect, glory and love that he DESERVES, seeing so much positivity on him just makes me as a huge Knuckles fan, someone who has this angry echidna as her comfort character, it makes me so HAPPY! but of course that doesn’t stop hearing some disrespect on his character or just cluelessness.  “Knuckles can be deep and meaningful?” “lol he’s dumb and gullible” “Wait he’s actually really powerful”  YA’LL DO YOU NOT REMEMBER WHAT HE USED TO BE? AND DO YOU NOT REALISE WHY HE’S THE WAY HE IS

LET’S EXPLORE THAT 

Knuckles is SO deep and meaningful, I’m not sure if he’s the last of his kind in the movie like he is in the games but if he is OH BOY THE POSSIBILITIES. That would give movie sonic and him such an understanding, Sonic was lonely in the first movie, if Knuckles understood a similar painful loneliness, that could really give a spark to them to work together and be friends. But either way he UNDERSTANDS that loneliness, that isolation. His people were eradicated and he’s the lone survivor, I can’t imagine what goes through his mind when he thinks about his people. “Why is it just me? Why do I have to be the last one?”. I’M SURE that he wonders constantly about his people, he wants to learn the most he can about them, and he probably has through whatever was left behind. Like ancient inscriptions, carvings and the emerald. THE EMERALD.  I CONSTANTLY think that he has much more of a reason to be so stubborn and desperate to keep at the job of being the Guardian of the Master Emerald. I feel he has a much more sentimental value besides just having honour in it being his duty, and honour is a BIG part of his character. The master emerald was important to his people and his culture, and that’s all he has left, and since he could remember it’s all he’s had and guarding it and living on the island is ALL he’s known. So while I do imagine he feels tied down and a lack of freedom because of that emerald, he’d probably be… reluctant or hesitant to leave that duty or stop guarding the emerald. I wouldn’t blame him if it was what i was doing for all my life and a big piece of what was left of my people. It would be difficult to let it go. I always like to picture if he was relieved from duty he would TEMPORARILY STRUGGLE but eventually move on, because he does long to explore and be free I know he does and I recall this being hinted at somewhere in canon. 

NOW LET’S GO OVER THE WHOLE THINGS ON ‘DUMB’ AND ‘GULLIBLE’ One thing Knuckles definitely isn’t, is stupid, he may not be the most knowledgeable with modern things but what did you expect from someone who was isolated from the world. He may not be a super genius but he def would have knowledge and intelligence on other levels and areas. Wanna ask him about ancient languages? I bet you he knows more about that, he knows the island like the back of his hand and it wouldn’t surprise me if he had the idea to set traps to protect the emerald. And from spending all his life on an island? Bet you Knuckles’ the first person you’d come to about surviving in the wilderness.  Now when it comes to the ‘gullibility’ again WHAT DO YOU EXPECT, he grew up isolated and alone. He had no chance to gain social skills and of course with the first person he met he probably would’ve been desperate to make a connection and that probably still is in him as much as he would most likely deny it. He see’s the good in people so of course he’d believe them, I’m similar in a manner you could say, while I do imagine this could cause some trust issues in the future or if it’s been done enough. but the fact that it’s happened more then once just shows he’s willing to give chances and want to see the better in people and to give them his trust. Honestly due to the growing up and not learning socialising, it wouldn’t surprise me that he can’t pick up certain social cues or might not be able to tell when someones attempting to manipulate or lie. Even with his friends he still has a certain way of speaking to others that has improved later on. I’ve always pictured he’s socially awkward and possibly even socially anxious (albeit the latter is more of a headcanon then anything-)

People really don’t give Knuckles enough credit, he’s a FORCE to be reckoned with, he’s so powerful that he can stop sonic and even shadow’s spindashes with his hands. He’s a formidable foe to be reckoned with and as he should be!! and in the movie sonic has no fighting experience while Knuckles, Knuckles definitely will. Sonic’s going to have his hands full with this guy! 

and to top it off his determination combined with his strength, when Knuckles has a goal he sticks with it, he does NOT give up and while that can be his downfall sometimes, it can be a GOOD thing. If he’s fighting for his friends or wants to help them, he’ll fight like hell and give it everything he’s got. He’ll put his own life on the line for them, he’s got such a good heart and cares deeply about the people in his life. 

So to finish this, Knuckles is not given the credit he’s due. He’s a badass warrior and a force to be reckoned with but underneath that, he’s a determined selfless soul that will fight like hell to do what he think is right and put himself on the line if it means doing the right thing or protecting his friends. 

Knuckles is amazing and I love this character so much and i have so much excitement to see how he’s done in the movie. This movie is gonna rock and I can’t wait to see more people start to give him the love he’s deserved for so long. <3
