i want to write something cute and happy for @harringroveweekoflove but my hands are broken! they can only write sadness!
Steve looked up through his eyelashes at the boy lying beside him. Billy was smoking a cigarette and staring out the window. Moonlight seeped into the room through thin blinds and illuminated his face and bare chest. Steve reached a hand over to play with the silver pendant Billy always wore. Things were different now. The monsters were gone, but the wounds they left behind still hadn’t healed. Billy’s skin was rippled with scars and his curls had grown out past his shoulders. It’s a miracle he survived. Steve still couldn’t believe he was alive. Touching his chest, he was peacefully reassured that the blonde next to him was real. When Steve let his mind wander, he feared that all of this had been his imagination. That one day he would wake up and the boy he loved would only be a memory. Of course he still hadn’t actually told him he loved him. Those words had always seemed too volatile, too sensitive, but he couldn’t hold them in much longer. Steve inched closer and nuzzled his face into the crook of Billy’s neck. Billy put out his cigarette and turned so that he and Steve were face to face. Breathing in their moment together. No matter how many times Steve looked at Billy’s face, it always surprised him how beautiful it was. Even in the dark his eyes were ocean blue, and Steve was entirely lost in them.
“What’s on your mind Stevie?” Billy whispered through tired eyes. Steve was silent before mustering up the courage to speak.
“I think I’m falling in love with you.” He muttered. Steve was panicked. He knew Billy would never say it back, he didn’t really even need him to, but he had to say it. Before Steve could speak again, Billy silenced him with his lips. The kiss was slow and messy, Steve was in heaven until he cupped Billy’s face and felt tears. He pulled them apart and looked at the blonde; terrified. Billy’s breath hitched as he stared directly into Steve’s eyes. He brought his hand up and caressed the side of the older boy’s face.
“That’s a really bad idea.” Billy sighed, gently using his thumb to circle Steve’s cheek.
“I know... but I don’t think I can help it.” The brunette choked through cries of his own. Billy moved closer and kissed the tears as they fell.
“Just... Promise me something ok?” Billy replied, inches from the other boys face. Steve’s eyes dazzled and he nodded eagerly. “One day, We’ll get out of here... No monsters, no judgement, just us...”
Steve put his hand through Billy’s hair and tucked it behind his ear, letting his fingers rest on the nape of his neck.
“I thought you’d never ask.”
If Steve could even label the emotions flooding through his head they would be pure joy. The two boys brought their foreheads together and tangled their limbs.
They were young.
They were in love.
They were alive.
Steve would go anywhere for Billy
and he imagined the world sounded like the perfect place to start...
