(Surely this confirms the manga will only adapt up to the end of Book 7… I don’t want that to be true, but there’s so other reason to cut/change scenes and kill Gurgin off so early.)

Just thinking about Gurgin being wrong about love in every single AU I have ever concocted for him.

Interlude / Magical Healing AU: ‘I’m not capable of feeling love’ sdfjggshgh Gurgin you idiot you are developing feelings right now, you just haven’t realised it yet

Mage Hunt AU: ‘it’s not possible for anyone to ever love me’ just plain WRONG and it’s heartbreaking that he believes this is true

Sacrifice / Puppy AU: where he says “people will do a lot for love, or so I’m told” (and he’s not wrong here, but… it’s you, Gurgin. you’re people.)

Royal Treasure AU: ‘he won’t want me anymore when he finds out the truth’ …the truth being that his lifespan has been greatly shortened and soon he’ll start getting sick with no chance of getting better 😢

Mage Hunt AU Drabble #1

(Context for this AU: Hilmes has a dead younger brother, Gurgin has a dead older brother, and after finding out that Team Zahhak were responsible for this Gurgin switches sides and starts working with Hilmes to eliminate them.)

The enemy mage had died wearing someone else’s face.

Tall, dark-haired; handsome features made ugly by a cruel smile. The fake, though faintly familiar, was not someone who Zandeh recognised, but he had not been the target. Gurgin’s reaction had almost cost him his life. The transformation had occurred at close quarters, the enemy’s face distorting fast, yet it was slower to revert in death.

Gurgin was taking a long time to clean his dagger in the nearby stream. Zandeh glanced at his distant figure, uncertain, but then he looked back at the dead body, saw the resemblance, and understood.

Oh, Zandeh is so big! it's not an easy job even for magician to knead his muscles well :) Yesterday I suddenly find that the crack friendship I made up still lives on and inspires people )) @innerchorus , it was so touching! How many yeas have passed? my blogs tell me it all was back at 2016-17 :D I'm rather far from Arslan theme now, but it is so strange and pleasant to go back there and find that people remember you still and the caracters are still warm & dear for you. I'd made some unpublished sketches while plotting "the magic healing au" & this is one of them. It is back from that time, yes.

Gurgin Backstory Drabble #1

Gurgin creates life for the first time.

The shemul* drew its first breath, and Gurgin’s heart leapt. 

It was wet with blood, fur plastered to its body; clay made flesh. That same blood still dripped from his fingertips, yet in that moment he forgot about the taste of it in his mouth. The lower pair of eyes opened first, glowing yellow, before the lids of the upper set peeled back to reveal red orbs. Its ribs moved like a bellows. His hand hovered above its head. 

Sensing him, its muzzle wobbled questingly towards his outstretched palm until contact was made.

“Good,” said Gurgin’s Master. “Now kill it.”

This is set not long after Gurgin joins Team Zahhak, so I guess he'd be around 17 or 18. This is technically generic backstory but it feels especially relevant to Sacrifice AU (which is at least in part about putting Gurgin back in the same position and him saying 'actually no I won't do it' 👀). If I do ever write that AU then you can expect an expanded flashback where you'll see Gurgin become increasingly dispassionate about such tasks. And while I don't think he enjoys killing his own creations, it's clear that he does grow to relish bloodshed under other circumstances and will even come to enjoy the taste of blood.

The process of creating creatures such as the four-eyed dogs is at least 90% headcanon as we're never told how it happens in the novels. I think of it as involving a Team Zahhak-style libation, and naturally, it requires blood.

So I attempted to make Gurgin using the ElenaA's Windswept Oc Maker picrew! Some compromises had to be made so consider this a bit of a mashup of various incarnations of Gurgin since I couldn't accurately make his canon self the way I see it.

Hairstyle is kind of modern AU I guess with the shaved side but this was the best way to get the right shape (and even then it's reversed). Thank goodness I could do that strand across the centre of his face or else I would have given up straight away. His hair should be a bit more lank really but whatever.

Eye colour is Wolfsnake AU, more or less. I gave in to temptation and gave him the slit pupils for snaky vibes, though they're not super distinct here because of where I put the highlight.

The blood drop earrings are just for fun; let's say his Master gave them to him.

Nosebleed is from Sacrifice AU, poor guy.
