Something that I have noticed is I know almost nobody my age that goes to a food pantry. I know people who regularly run out of money for food and in general have to eat an unsuitable diet because that’s what they can afford and they still don’t go to a food bank, im not sure if it’s because they’re embarrassed or maybe if you didn’t grow up going you don’t know much about it but if you’re financially struggling I really recommend it. And look into other options for food assistance too like community fridges and gardens and other programs that can assist you, where I live Salvation Army pays for an allotted amount of grocery delivery for low income people every month, in the summer farmers take excess produce to the library to be taken by anyone who needs it, etc. There are a LOT of resources for free food that you can look into especially if you are literally not eating because of your financial situation
Another good place to go/call is St Vincent de Paul's, who are set up in over 140 countries and offer help in food, gas, rent, clothes, etc

This week in Weird/Funny Shit the Food Bank Sent Me:
A bag of beef stew. Yes. A bag. Of stew. (It's pretty tasty.)
Moar walnuts. (Why?! Where are these coming from?! Last time it was one bag, now it's three!!)
A box with no less than eight loaves of plain white bread. o_o
I’m Australian so the figures would be different down here but that doesn’t stop me from feeling joy that I’m a part of something that helps so many people. My local church alone has a community garden that I work in where most of the produce is donated to the food bank or given to parishioners for free, a recycling program, a shared soup kitchen with the uniting church, a free morning tea after mass twice a week and (plus more) is just charitable to the community, and this is a very small church with only around <30-50 regular attendees, so imagine just how much good the large churches can do!
The Joy of Giving Back: How Volunteer Work during the Holiday Season Nourishes the Soul

December 4, 2023
As the holiday season approaches, our hearts are filled with warmth and anticipation. It is a time when we gather with loved ones, exchange gifts, and indulge in delicious feasts. However, amid all the festivities, there's something truly beautiful about extending a helping hand to those less fortunate. Engaging in volunteer work during this special time not only makes a positive impact on others but also nourishes our own souls.
1. Cultivating Empathy: Volunteering allows us to step into someone else's shoes and experience life from their perspective. Whether it's serving meals at a shelter or visiting nursing homes, connecting with people facing adversity fosters empathy within us. This heightened understanding can be transformative, as it encourages compassion and broadens our outlook on life.
2. Spreading Love and Kindness: The holiday season represents love and kindness – values that are magnified through acts of volunteerism. By dedicating our time to help others, we spread positivity throughout our communities. Simple gestures like wrapping presents for underprivileged children or delivering care packages to local families in need can have an immeasurable impact on both the giver and receiver.
3. Fostering Gratitude: When we engage in volunteer work during the holidays, it serves as a gentle reminder of how fortunate we are. Witnessing firsthand the struggles faced by individuals and families can evoke gratitude for what we often take for granted – such as having food on our tables or a roof over our heads. This newfound appreciation helps us cherish our blessings while cultivating humility.
4. Creating Meaningful Connections: Volunteer work brings people from diverse backgrounds together with a shared purpose - making a difference in someone's life. The connections formed during these experiences often transcend cultural or social barriers, reminding us of our common humanity. Building relationships based on generosity and selflessness can be profoundly rewarding and leave lasting impressions on our souls.
5. Finding Personal Fulfillment: The holiday season is often associated with the pursuit of personal happiness. However, true fulfillment comes when we contribute to others' well-being. Engaging in volunteer work allows us to align our actions with our values, offering a sense of purpose and contentment that surpasses any materialistic pleasure. The joy derived from giving back can linger long after the holiday spirit fades away.
Volunteer work during the holiday season is an opportunity to embrace the true essence of this special time – spreading love, kindness, and compassion. As we open our hearts to those in need, we not only uplift their spirits but also nourish our own souls. Through cultivating empathy, fostering gratitude, forming meaningful connections, and finding personal fulfillment, volunteering becomes a transformative experience that enriches our lives beyond measure. So, let's embark on this journey of selflessness during the holidays and create a ripple effect of positive change that will continue to resonate throughout the year.
Nourishing Hearts through Regina Food Bank Donation

March 2, 2024
As part of my New Year's resolution to make a positive impact, March brings an opportunity to contribute to the well-being of the community through a donation to the Regina Food Bank. This organization holds a special place in my heart as it tirelessly works towards alleviating hunger and supporting those in need within our community.
The Regina Food Bank stands as a pillar of hope, addressing the fundamental need for nourishment that many individuals and families face daily. March, often associated with the onset of spring, serves as a reminder to sow seeds of compassion and support in the lives of others.
This month's donation holds the power to transform lives, providing not only sustenance but also a sense of security and dignity. The Regina Food Bank's commitment to ensuring no one goes to bed hungry resonates deeply with my desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those less fortunate.
In a world filled with challenges, the act of giving becomes a beacon of light, illuminating the path towards a more compassionate and empathetic society. By supporting the Regina Food Bank, we join hands to cultivate a community where no one feels the pangs of hunger, where every person can experience the warmth of a shared meal.
As we approach this March donation, let us reflect on the profound impact we can collectively make. Small acts of kindness, such as contributing to a local food bank, have the potential to create a ripple effect, inspiring others to join in the spirit of giving.
In times of uncertainty, generosity becomes a force that binds us together. Through this donation, I aim to play a part in building a stronger, more resilient community where the well-being of all is a shared responsibility. Together, let's nourish not only bodies but also the collective spirit of compassion that defines us as a community.
May this March donation to the Regina Food Bank be a testament to the power of unity and kindness, reminding us that even a modest contribution can create lasting positive change.
