And in response I sent her this rant which took 20 minutes to write (I would cut the post here but idk how to do it on mobile tumblr):

Sundew and Tsunami are definitely very similar, but one of their biggest differences has to do with family. Tsunami has a loving (sometimes overprotective) mother, as well as her sisters and her brothers. Sure, she was stolen as an egg, but at least she had the other dragonets of destiny - their friendship probably saved a lot of them from major emotional issues. When Tsunami starts raging (like the time she attacked that SkyWing), it's mostly out of wanting to protect her friends or herself.

However, Sundew grew up with no really close relationships we can see other than Willow, who she doesn't even get to see very often. Her parents only had her to make her into a weapon of revenge, which probably messed with her head at least a little. Her mother appears to constantly be yelling at her, arguing with her, and pushing her too hard, and her father seems to be pretty absent most of the time. Which he does have in common with Tsunami's dad, you know, because he's dead. So sure, both of them probably have some form of trauma, but Sundew most likely has more insecurity and lashes out because she doesn't believe she's worth anything beyond vengeance against the HiveWings. (That's my headcanon anyway.)

Before Cricket, Blue, and the others, Sundew was only fighting for the lost forests and the LeafWing tribe, and so she can prove to her mother that she's her own person and she can decide for herself what she wants. Meanwhile, Tsunami probably feels that she's accomplished her mission in life, and like Sundew, she believes she can choose her own path in life, instead of a fate someone else has set for her; whether it be a parent or a prophecy.

In conclusion, Sundew and Tsunami are very similar characters, but just because they have agressive personalities doesn't mean you should put them in a box together and ignore their amazing backstories and motivations.

Okay so I know you said you just wanted headcanons but this idea got my brain going and I ended up with a whole fanfiction ready to be written so expect that soon :) i'll get to the plot in a second but here's all the quirks i came up with for the main characters (third arc characters will probably come later, for now it's just the first and second arc). All these characters are half-dragon in this AU, so they still have wings, tails, and/or fire, depending on their tribe.

Clay

Quirk name: Fire Resistance

He is resistant to all fire - putting mud on his skin strengthens his Quirk and replenishes his energy. Because of this, while he was under the mountain, everyone thought he was Quirkless. It wasn’t until they escaped that he rolled around in some mud and later found out that this activated his Quirk.

Tsunami

Quirk name: Tsunami

She can create any amount of water, from a single droplet to a huge wave (although that takes a lot more energy). Since she grew up under a mountain, she doesn’t have much control over her Quirk, so she avoids creating large waves unless completely necessary. Similar to Clay, drinking or being in water strengthens her Quirk and replenishes her energy.

Glory

Quirk name: Jungle

She can change the colors of her skin and scales, either for camouflage or for colorful displays, and she can shoot deadly corrosive venom from her fangs.

Quirk name: Future Vision and Mind Reading

She inherited both her parent’s Quirks; she can read the mind of anyone within her range, and she can receive visions or prophecies from the future. She doesn’t have much control over her Future Vision; it’s not entirely accurate and what she sees can often be changed. Some downsides; she can’t turn off her mind reading, she can only block out thoughts temporarily. She also gets headaches from her visions or if she’s hearing too many people’s thoughts at once.

Quirk name: Frostbreath

Nicknamed “freezing death breath,” he can shoot icelike breath from his mouth that freezes anything it touches, and can even kill someone. Because of this, he also radiates cold.

Peril

Quirk name: Firescales

A mutation that causes her to be covered in scales that burn/melt almost everything that touches them - except her, of course. The only things they’re not hot enough to melt are certain kinds of metal and rock. She usually wears either armourlike clothes made of tungsten, or clothes made of fireproof scales or skin she got from the Sky Palace.

Turtle

Quirk name: Animus

A mutation that is derived from the ancient magic of his dragon ancestors. This Quirk allows him to manipulate and/or enchant living and nonliving things.

Qibli

Quirkless, but still has a venomous barb on his tail

Kinkajou

Quirk name: Jungle

Same Quirk as Glory; she can change her skin/scale colors and spit deadly venom, although her venom is much weaker.

Okay, now that all the Quirks are done, let’s get to the plot. (Also, if you want me to add more characters, let me know!) My first idea for this was that Pyrrhia is a separate continent on Earth, somewhere in the ocean near Japan. Also, just for some lore or backstory or whatever so this all makes more sense, instead of the Scorching being when the dragons took over the humans, it’s when dragons integrated into human society. This results in it being more common to be half-dragon, or have dragon ancestors, than to have a Quirk. Otherwise, everything is pretty much the same.

This takes place after book 5, but instead of Jade Mountain Academy, the Dragonets of Destiny decide to move to Japan and work at UA High. How do they speak Japanese, you ask? I have no idea, but it’s my fanfiction and I get to choose the language so just pretend it makes sense. Anyway, they choose a few dragons (namely, the Jade Winglet) to take with them as exchange students, sort of. In this AU, Darkstalker is buried near UA High instead of Jade Mountain in Pyrrhia so they still have an antagonist. Also, the League of Villains kind of replaces Vulture’s Talons of Power. The Jade Winglet will still have the same name, even though the classes aren’t called winglets, since they’re still a small group of dragons, so technically they can still be called a winglet. (No, I’m not just lazy, what are you talking about?) That’s all for now, but stay tuned for part two, which will have actual headcanons!

i am absolutely going to do a whole fanfiction and here's some things I will incorporate into it

I will be switching between the Jade Winglet's POVs throughout the story because I can not choose only one

Deathbringer will be there as Glory's bodyguard because I like his character but it will NOT be in a shipping context because age difference not pog

Also I want Glory to be in this fic, so for this AU she left Grandeur, Mangrove and Jambu in charge of the RainWings to go teach at UA with her friends temporarily

Clay is a healer in this AU instead of his main personality trait just being hungry all the time. I saw a post about that a while ago and can't remember what it is exactly but I'm putting it in the story

Qibli has ADHD, as he will be in every single wof fic I write forever

Kaminari also has ADHD (he is NOT STUPID, JUST ADHD, I WILL DIE ON THIS HILL)

This technically takes place before all the stuff that happens in books 6-10 but I'm going to be writing Winter as he is post-character development arc because I, personally, did not like him much before that

Anemone and/or Shinso may or may not be in this fic, I haven't decided yet

I will try to bring in some more underrated characters from mha, like Koda and Tokoyami, because I love them and they deserve attention

This AU can go one of two ways; Mineta won't exist, or he will and he either gets absolutely beaten into the ground by one of the dragonets or expelled

Human!Tsunami basically looks like Uma from Descendants

That reminds me, all the dragons are people of color, because I distinctly remember that Scarlet once said that Burn collects "scavengers with weird pale skin," which lead me to believe that white people are (nearly) extinct in the WoF universe, so boom. POC dragons.

Winter would probably be the only white one, since he's an IceWing and lives in an Arctic tundra. Please correct me if I'm wrong about that, though! I don't know much about human biology

Qinter, Moonjou, Kiribaku, and probably a few other ships of mine will be canon, although I'm hoping not to focus *too* much on relationships in this fic

Clay had to use crutches for the first few months after his viper bite/burn injury, but after it healed up a bit he switched to a cane. Then when he got to UA, he was offered a new cane as a support item, complete with a sword hidden inside of it
