One thing I find interesting is how both Dib and Zim treat teaming up.
You’d think Zim wouldn’t take it too seriously, because he’s trying to conquer the Earth and all, but he actually does. Zim is notorious for not really noticing or caring how his actions affect others when he’s focused on a mission- he usually prefers to work alone. But when he decides to team up, he means it. He expects the other person to take it as seriously as he does, he expects the other person to be trustworthy.
Dib doesn’t expect this kind of loyalty from Zim. Dib is completely fine with throwing Zim under the bus to save his own ass and he expects that Zim would do the same, but he’s wrong with that assumption.
(I wouldn’t say Zim betrayed him in ETF because they weren’t teaming up, Dib was just taking advantage of Zim when he was too depressed to defend himself and was okay with whatever Dib was going to do to him until he got inspired)
Zim was so clearly hurt and angry that Dib would throw him under the bus, and he was so justifiably mad but still helped Dib, he made it a point that he was only doing it because he needed Dib’s big head but honestly, I’m sure his unwavering loyalty and devotion to one’s task/mission also plays a part in it.
But yeah, take some time to really sink in that Dib read Zim completely wrong. Zim would not have gone back on his word to Dib, and he was definitely hurt by Dib’s betrayal.
@cdarkheartzero and I got together once again, collaborating on a drawing based on a fanfic written by the sweet and lovely, @melodyofthevoid. The fanfic is called “Havoc to Be Wrought” and can be read here. Zero drew this amazing scene, one that brought us so many feels, and I colored it in.
