the scene in 3x19 where garcia is showing reid the photo of teenage goth emily reminded me of this phenomenal fic. i think i read the other fics in the series too although my memory of them is hazy. anyway. very good.

maybe reid actually has normal amounts of pop culture knowledge and hes just fucking with people maybe. probably not. but really why is his pop culture knowledge so weird and scattered although actually i could very much see reid enjoying a lot of the artists who were inspired by siouxsie and the banshees maybe thats it. he listened to and enjoyed. like. the smiths or something and then did a little research on them im putting WAY too much thought into this throwaway line. ill shut up now im sorry for the weird way the gifs are cut some of reid's dialogue was when emily & garcia were onscreen i debated cutting it so the gifs were just when reid was onscreen but it looked weird spencer reid not fic criminal minds criminal minds rewatch criminal minds s03e19 criminal minds 3x19 tabula rasa my gifs

Standing in an office is Morgan, a man with close-cropped dark hair wearing a white patterned button-up and tie. He gestures at Garcia, a blonde woman wearing dark clothes gathering things together in the background. Reid furrows his brows, mouth open, then speaks. Yellow subtitles at the bottom of the image read: "Uh...Gomez, I think."

I see Reid not remembering Garcia's name in this flashback cited as a plot hole a lot, but it makes perfect sense to me. Reid specifically recalls everything he's seen/read, not everything he hears, and as Garcia is brand new to the team here, it's entirely plausible he's only ever heard her name. The fact that he doesn't have perfect recall of auditory information is even a bit of a plot point in 1x22, where he initially struggles to recall the Parliament of Fowls because it's only ever been read to him.

I think there is some inconsistency on how good Reid's auditory memory is, but usually when I see this moment cited as a plot hole it's because Reid has an eidetic memory—which is visual.

sorry this is a very unimportant point but i always get twitchy when i see people going “how can reid not remember [auditory info] he has an eidetic memory!” again iirc there ARE inconsistencies re: how good his auditory recall is and i think sometimes the writers do forget an eidetic memory is visual but anyway spencer reid not fic criminal minds criminal minds rewatch criminal minds s03e19 criminal minds 3x19 tabula rasa my gifs

Outdoors at night, a green door opens and Mr. Corbett, a man with thinning hair wearing a brown button-up steps out and speaks, a look of surprise on his face. Reid, a brunette man in dark clothing, faces the open door. White subtitles read: "Agent Reid?"
Mr. Corbett looks at Reid, shifting his weight. Yellow subtitles read: "Sorry, I know it's late, but I wanted to give you the news before it hit the paper."
Reid takes a deep breath, then speaks. There is a black SUV parked on the road behind him, headlights on. Yellow subtitles read: "Matloff's changing his plea to guilty. Everyone agreed to life without parole."
Mr. Corbett nods, then looks down, smiling briefly before moving to close the door. White subtitles read: "You didn't have to come here."
Reid's brow furrows, and he pulls a wristwatch out of a pocket, letting the band hang. Yellow subtitles read: "I also came to return this."
Reid hands the wristwatch to Mr. Corbett. Yellow subtitles read: "I had them release it from evidence."
