"We took away your art because we thought it would reveal your souls. . .

Or to put it more finely. . .

. . .we did it to prove you had souls at all."

Does anyone actually get over their first love
. . .
or do they just learn to live in quiet despair over what is, a distant rage in their souls craving what could not be?

My Favorite Book Tropes
🐍 Enemies to Lovers - when done correctly, intense, slow burn, friendship being denied before falling in love AHHHH ("Things We Never Got Over" and "Punk 57" are two of my favs that I can think of, though I would live some with less smut)
🌼 Friends to Lovers - ONLY when the plot is unique (e.g "Never Let Me Go", If He Had Been With Me"; yes this tropee has to be painful to work.
🌹 Forbidden Romance - only if the book gives literary/historical/realistic and isn't all smut/fetishization ("The 7 Husbands of Evelyn Hugo" type shit)
✨ Honorable mention ✨
👁️ Dystopian Fiction with interesting but not too complex world-building (I have ADHD and ut gets too confusing to enjoy) I did love "The Hunger Games", The Grace Year", and "Never Let me Go"
🦋 Mental Illness/Substance Abuse tropes (especially when done realistically ("Girl Interrupted", "Girl in Pieces") Honestly, I just love Kathleen Glasgow's YA books on these themes
🫀 Books that make you feel every emotion possible or make you question your own humanity/judgement/morals or just make you think, no matter how fucked up the subject matter is ("My Dark Vanessa", "All the Ugly and Wonderful Things", "Less than Zero", "Bunny", "Adelaide")
"It was a need based on his absence of need."
The Pisces // Melissa Broder
Annotation:
Fuck men.
And fuck the ease at which they are with themselves. With their existence. Just as they are. In that very moment. Not a care in the world.
[And fuck the way they convert relationships into chess games designed for them to win, even if they don't.]
Entrancing, yet unsettling read. Margaret Atwood's word choice is exemplary. I'm nearly finished, and will reserve the next in the series.
I haven't seen the series on Hulu or the movie, so I don't have anything to compare it to, nor see where this series is going yet.

Thank you, thank you, you’re far too kind, as always, @the-golden-comet! I’m adding @gioiaalbanoart, who has also been nothing but kind to me, and also loved The Tengu And The Angel, and my darlings Kunio and Nathaniel, as well as @alwri-tes, who had also read and loved my debut novel! Shadow’s Hidden Blade is 100% gonna be the next item on my reading list!
I’m sick of being told that tumblr is dead and new artists/writers can’t thrive on here. This is the only website that has ever supported my work - work that is too queer, erotic, and genuinely subversive to survive the omnipresent corporate algorithm. The fact that there are people out there making posts and memes and fanart about my book blows my mind.
(Staff has done everything in their power to run this website into the ground, so I don’t want to heap uncritical praise on them of course.)

Vermillion hues of my roots

"May you be for ever blessed for that moment of bliss and happiness which you gave to another lonely and grateful heart. Isn't such a moment sufficient for the whole of one's life?"

4 August , 24
Early morning classes do not inspire enthusiasm today. My books have arrived, filling me with a desire to devote the entire day to reading. However, an intimidating pile of white laundry demands my attention. As I hang the clothes, the washing line, seemingly reserved for whites, captures my affection with its gentle flutter in the breeze.
Amidst the chores, I manage to steal moments for myself. Outside, cumulus clouds drift lazily across the cerulean vastness of the sky, while the sun plays peek-a-boo, occasionally illuminating the lush greenery of my plants and a single wild white lily, which stands out like a pixie amidst the foliage. In these fleeting glimpses of beauty, I am reminded that
" life is indeed beautiful."

Humans often think they know where they end and others begin, but I understand now that you were never separate from me. Your love, like the ancient trees, runs deep, mingling with mine, connected by an unseen web of memories, love, and shared moments. Even now, as I stand here, I know that you are still with me, your roots forever tangled with mine, nurturing me from the soil of our shared existence. We are, and always will be, interconnected, Maa—no loneliness, only togetherness that transcends the physical.

When they say life must go on, I wonder what kind of life they mean. It’s not life they’re living; it’s a show—a sartorial parade, a spectacle for the people, of the people, by the people. A show of money, of fleeting interests, of agendas dressed in fine fabrics. Is this what they call life, or is it just a rat parade, where we’re all racing towards an unseen never-ending finish line?
-------------------------
Between takeoff and landing, we are each suspended in animation—a pause between the chapters of our lives. When I look out at the world, it's reduced to a flat projection, where mountain ranges are merely wrinkles in the continental skin. Oblivious to our passage overhead, other stories unfold beneath us. Blackberries ripen under the August sun, a woman hesitates at her doorway with a suitcase in hand, a letter is opened, and a surprising photograph slides out, capturing a moment of pure, unfiltered truth.
But we’re moving too fast, too far away; all the stories escape us, save for our own.As I turn away from the window, those stories recede, disappearing into the two-dimensional map of green and brown below. They vanish like a trout into the shade of an overhanging bank, leaving us staring at the surface of the water, questioning if we ever saw them at all ???

"In the silent night, in the dark of night, in the deep of night, I will come to you and listen, and I will speak, and I will sing, and I will love you.”

My Captain does not answer, her lips are pale and still, My mother does not feel my arm, she has no pulse nor will, The ship is anchor'd safe and sound, its voyage closed and done,
From fearful trip the victor ship comes in with object won; Exult O shores, and ring 0 bells!
But I with mournful tread, Walk the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.
— Walt Whitman, leaves of grass

September 7, 2024 I’ve been thinking that you are my country. Is that a strange thing to say? Without you, I don’t have a home 🏡 in this world; I am a felled tree, 🪵my roots severed all round; you can topple me with the touch of a finger.
Elif Shafak, The Island of Missing Trees

I have just finished reading "No Longer Human" by Osamu Dazai.
Outside, the autumn sun is shining warmly, and a cool breeze is blowing. With the "ber" months in queue..I’m excited for this beautiful season to unfold and the stacks of the books 📚.

I ran to you not just with my bruised knees and muddy hands, but with all the joys, worries, and secrets my heart could hold.
You were the guardian of my little stories, little secrets; your embrace is my refuge where I never outgrew.
Always yours ❤️🩹🙏🏾
