hrfhjhhhhh boy mary au.. idk what specifically shrewsbury was up to when i want to set this but imagine if he and mary got to be weird boy best friends. and they are both named charles after the most important charles.
more genuinely i think mary would initially worry shrewsbury Knows what she is but she hasnt realized that even if he did know he probably wouldnt fault her for it. shrewsbury is mostly just struck with admiration because even if mary seems kind of perpetually uneasy he thinks she is so confident and he cant even begin to imagine what could make someone like her disturbed.
even though mary now gets to be an irresponsible young man with an absurd number of mistresses she is also not very happy that liking men is gay now since she views it as an aspect of her identity when she was still a girl & it's holding her back from being a real man like shes expected to be (mainly by charles and james who put in a lot of effort to teach her more masculine mannerisms etc but also just in general since shes the god damn prince now!)
boy Mary AU w&m. well now its William and CHARLES but there can only be so many charleses at once so I shall refrain from calling her that. I think if she had to rule as king Mary would kind of take after William and be a bit more reclusive and serious, though she can still function at social events better than him. Quite a change from the previous Charles.
Since this is mostly crack I did not really think it through how she will come to rule, but it would be neat if they still had the glorious revolution just with Mary on her own, and some help from William. this does not make sense at all.
plus now there are Three of them. Monmouth and William can compete to be Mary's favorite cousin while teaching her about all the Normal Man Hobbies she is supposed to have now that she's a boy. James can't believe that after all this effort to keep his precious daughter/son away from stinky gross William, they have become besties.
