hi i wonder i can ask a bit tutorial how you draw the male face

I don’t mind questions at all!

First off, I’m not going to really show ‘how’ I draw faces, because that always changes, and I’m still learning how to draw. I wouldn’t want to give you bad advice!

So, i think it’s important to learn how form works. Once form is learned, you can draw anything. Learning how objects work in 3d space will help you more than anything, perspective, tangents, and form being the most important things to learn. Second, appealing shapes. This doesn’t mean the face will be handsome, it means use shapes that flow well and feel organic. In order to learn these things, you have to draw a lot and mess up a lot. In fact it’s good to mess up more than worry about getting things right, all that’s needed is lots and lots of experience. Look at people wherever you go, think in shadows and forms! Look at real people! Your art will look way more fun if you look at real people.

These are how my sketches usually look. They’re messy, disproportionate, but I like them never the less. In a few years theyll look bad to me, but it doesn’t matter, I was learning! I almost ALWAYS use reference to draw anything. I always have a Pinterest board open so I can see how faces actually look. This way you can manipulate faces however you want.

Hi I Wonder I Can Ask A Bit Tutorial How You Draw The Male Face

If you want expressive faces, don’t be afraid of wrinkles!! Don’t be afraid of fat pads and skin folds, crooked teeth and broken noses. This applies to any face or body.

The way I’ve learned the fastest isn’t by drawing lots and lots of studies, it’s studying while drawing what I want to draw. Fanart? I look at references and apply them my drawing. Ocs? Studies. Have fun!

Can you tutorial on how you draw miles hair?

Thanks for the ask!

I stepped back from doing tutorials for a variety of reasons. But right now i just started my masters degree and im SUPER busy and have zero energy to put into a tutorial.

BUT i looked and found some youtube/tiktok tutorials that might help. Theyre not for Miles’ hair specifically but they’ll help with the basics of drawing hair and hopefully that will help.

A lot of people on twitter wanted me to explain how I draw expressions, so here you go

Unless you're drawing explicit realism, in my opinion, expressions should be exaggerated to some degree. If you aren't doing a 1:1 recreation, the point is to get the FEELING across. Try making the expression you want to draw and feeling how your face pinches and stretches.

Skin doesn't just "disappear" when your face moves it around --- that's where wrinkles come from! Pay attention to where your skin creases when you emote, and use it to your benefit. It's a fine line between overdoing it and underdoing it -- find your own balance.

Ultimately, every expression has a little bit of push and pull, unless your face is completely neutral (and even then, there are still some wrinkles...). Learning to think of expressions as actions and reactions is VERY helpful in learning to draw them without needing a reference, and in learning how to stylize and push expressions based on references as well!

I think a lot of people end up with stiff or unexpressive emotions in their art because they're just trying to recreate a picture instead of understanding WHY and HOW the face is moving --- and it's a tough thing that takes a while to really pick up and learn. Hopefully is helpful in showing a way of thinking about it that can influence your process and approach to emotions!!!

Also, bonus: even without the lines, the planes alone still show a LOT of emotion.

wavin at you. so question: how’d you get so good at drawing bodies? i’m pretty decent at them but you can draw bodies from just so many angles and in so many perspectives and that’s always hard from me. do you use references? how do you break the body down to be able to do those perspectives so well?

Wavin At You. So Question: Howd You Get So Good At Drawing Bodies? Im Pretty Decent At Them But You Can

waving back at u hello!! tagging in ur other questions here so i can knock out as much as i can at once ^_^

i use lots of references! i used to use them by drawing over the silhouettes of poses i found on pinterest.

Wavin At You. So Question: Howd You Get So Good At Drawing Bodies? Im Pretty Decent At Them But You Can

i don’t have any easy tricks or shortcuts to proportions unfortunately :’D i picked it up from observation just by doing this for so long.

it’s a fun way to learn, but can be restraining in terms of stiffness and also making u really dependent on seeing a reference before u can think of how to draw a certain pose.

Wavin At You. So Question: Howd You Get So Good At Drawing Bodies? Im Pretty Decent At Them But You Can

now, i focus on what lines a body follows rather than the silhouette. i try to keep every section of the body to no more than 1-3 lines when first sketching.

doesn’t matter if the lines are accurate, just be bold w them!!!!!

Wavin At You. So Question: Howd You Get So Good At Drawing Bodies? Im Pretty Decent At Them But You Can

this is a lot easier to me than breaking the body down into shapes, and it keeps everything more fluid.

it’s on these lines where i choose to exaggerate as well!!!

Wavin At You. So Question: Howd You Get So Good At Drawing Bodies? Im Pretty Decent At Them But You Can

my fav exaggerations to do are flipping between curve/straight/curve/straight.

for example: on the left leg, i made the curve of the calf more pronounced while stiffening the straight line of the shin.

or on the skirt, i simplified the edges to single straight lines and the hem to one long curve :D

Wavin At You. So Question: Howd You Get So Good At Drawing Bodies? Im Pretty Decent At Them But You Can

this comes back to my 1-3 lines habit, where i try to simplify everything as much as i can, but also it comes down simply to observation and practice…..which is unfortunately the worst answer ever but it’s true LOL my sketchbooks are packed right now, but i have many many pages of completely fucking up and drawing a leg one thousand times too long. the best thing to do is to draw quickly and boldly, even if it’s wrong 100 times, than to sit down and take forever trying to get it correct on the first try.

pen and marker sketching will force u to do this LOL. it helps to find pens and markers that are fun to use, especially for scribbling, bc then u will look forward to drawing more even if it turns out bad!!!
