So much was this subtext practically text that the old “no homo” DIC dub had to outright change around the entirety of Saphir’s dialogue in one episode from him admitting he shares the “same feelings” for his brother as the woman crushing on him to him having a secret crush on said woman himself. They also deleted a whole ass scene in episode 85 of Prince Demande uncomfortably erotically brushing Saphir’s bangs back, not to mention all the supplemental material I’ve found that since suggests Ikuhara was trying to canonize the pairing. There was also Chibi-Usa’s disturbing crush on Mamoru, and in Shugo Chara Utau’s creepy brother complex, and just anime in general seems to have no shortage of suggestive incestuous and/or pedo ships galore.

But I can’t for the life of me find any of those hints for sauceribs in the original, am I missing something here? None of the interactions between sauceribs in the original was ever shown to be unambiguously romantic unlike the above examples. Any scenes that shippers or so-called “neutrals” point out could just as easily be interpreted as completely innocent, platonic affection. You’d think if any of their interactions were meant to be taken as suggestive Adult Swim would’ve outright deleted those scenes like DIC did to Sailor Moon or accordingly changed IY’s rating to a TV-MA like they did Trashahime rather than the PG-TV 14 rating it consistently floated between during it’s run.

No where does this “romantic subtext” exist, and as I’ve said before, these people either downplay the significance of certain scenes (i.e IY humbling Sess or the Kagura flower field), or they infantilize Sesshomaru (by treating him like an infant who couldn’t figure out what emotions were until he met a child).

I’m going to assume that you’re referring to that one neutral who brought up volume 48, which was such a weird take to me, bc that’s the same chapter where he revived Rin again.

Sess was bothered by Kagura’s death and was literally in mourning. We see him sitting by a cliff staring off solemnly, while Rin and Jaken play in the flower field behind him. He was annoyed that tenseiga didn’t respond, bc he actually wanted to save her. The whole impact of that scene was seeing him, for the first time, wanting to use his sword (not bc of any experimenting or benefits, but bc he wanted her alive).

Now his kid dies due to his own ineptitude (for lack of better description), while he’s still mourning the loss of the person he was interested in?? Damn. There were layers to his pain at this point in the story, so I fail to see how anyone could view this man being upset over his kid’s death and think “oh! Romance.”

It is clear that to Sato, “SessRin” is a thing never exsits in Rumiko Takahashi’s work. Here he is worried that even though Yashahime is not Rumiko’s work, some fans may well feel “uncomfurtable” about this ship. (Which is, of course.)

Yashahime is a fanwork of the Inuyasha Anime. Inuyasha anime is adapted from Inuyasha manga. The commerical part of its copyright belongs to Sunrise, but the canon is always what Rumiko Takahashi has drawn.

Uh…yeah. It’s literally canon that Kagura’s death invoked a newfound feeling within Sesshomaru. Even Totosai commented that and revealed that his change helped him to perfect his sword.

He did feel pity for Rin after she died, but her first revival was done conditionally (as an experiment), bc he wanted to test out his sword’s mechanics. His reasonings to help Kagura was based on their implied attraction, and Sesshomaru, for the first time, wanted to help another person without wanting anything in return.

That’s why he was upset when his sword wouldn’t work. Dude literally sat on a rock and mourned for her djdjdjjdj
