This is interesting, especially because now her best friends are three ladies lol. Considering how insulted she took Sophie "abandoning" her, she probably is very scared of forming close relationships with other women and probably doesn't hate them. I feel like I can attest to how different male friendships can be to female ones cause I have both. She also has mommy issues, in a sense, so maybe she just has a hard time with women. Not to mention the two most popular girls in their grade were quite rude or mean.

Marella also probably chose to help Sophie because she saw that Sophie was different than everyone else and thought that they would be able to relate to each other on that level and get along. And then when Sophie didnt become her one best friend to fight all the normie kids and instead became even closer to the popular kids, it probably hurt. So she flocked to other (yes, still "popular") ostracized girls instead and she found a group who lets her be who she is and feel understood so yay!

So hopefully that made any sense, I'm half asleep still right now. But basically, Marella was a pick me girl in the first book but she also probably was out of fear.

marella being the pick-me-est girl literally ever but still somehow pulling it off is hilarious. so glad she got her own character arc, she's such a fire character (no pun intended).
