annotation hcs (autumn pt 1 )

here’s the autumn lads! be warned, there are spoilers here!! fun fact: i usually cannot spell autumn correctly :)

Banri: taking notes??? Who’s she? Bringing your script to practice?? I don't know her?? To be honest, his script was barren and abandoned a lot in the beginning, like people would find it just lying around and go ‘banri? Don't you need this?’ and he honestly didn’t mind all that much. Later on! He actually gets more invested and starts making little annotations. He probably isn’t very used to annotating text so he would kinda just circle and fold the corners of pages that he needs to remember/deliver well. Later later on he does get better at taking notes tho!! Still minimal, but at least they exist and he knows where his script is

Juza: ok, when he first gets his script I feel like he was probably a little lost. He really didn’t know where to start so it would kinda just lie on his desk, blank. (don’t tell banri but juza was a little intimidated when he got the script and couldn’t bring himself to mark it up for a while) he eventually built up the courage to ask izumi how he should make notes and he’s pretty much stuck to that since! Most of his notes are on delivery, and what emotions should come through in certain words. Probably notes on pacing lines and how to deliver them more naturally too!

Sakyo: spoilers here! Since he’s another one who’s been involved in theatre since he was little, he can read through a script and just go, ‘ah yea, i got it’. Looking at the script it looks almost formal? Like, it almost looks like he used a ruler for underlining and the annotating looks like notes you could use in a textbook. If izumi ever forgets her script (which has happened at leaaaast once i promise u), he will let her use his, albeit with grumbling and lecturing <3 its ok sakyo, we know you love her

Taichi: Oh boyy, that poor script is gonna be destroyed.,,., im sorry, but our lil sk8er boi is just gonna be bringing that script with him eeveerryyywwheeereeee. He takes a buncha notes, but they are absolutely illegible and incomprehensible to anyone that isn't taichi nanao. Lots of scribbles and underlining and just a tooon of writing on almost all of the pages. Practically held together by binder clips by the end of the run of the play. Like, just imagine in the common room...

-You know how taichi is baby? He’s ur baby now, no take backsies!!!!

-Its gonna take him a hot min to notice your insecurities, but once he does!!! Oh he is on top of them!!!! he’s actually gonna be a bit upset with himself that he didn’t notice sooner, he was kinda blinded by the fact that He thought you were so cool, that he didn’t notice that you didn’t feel the same way about yourself

-In the notes app on his phone he writes down things that seem to upset you so he can remember to protect you from them, and! things that make you happy so he can cheer you up!!

-Whenever he walks past you in school he always says “hiiiiiii!!!!!” with the biggest smile on his face

-He’s gonna cry the first time u hold hands i promise u

-Like, he was so happy!! And he knew that that was vv nerve wracking for you so he’s so prouudddd

-On that note, HE IS PROUD OF YOU 25/8

-You have an in-class presentation? Even if he’s not in your class he’s gonna be reassuring you the whole week and sending sweet texts~

-And if he is in your class? (some of my classes have multiple grades, idk how it is for u dear anon hehe)

-One man hype-squad <3

-He is fully gonna be cheering when you start and once you finish u get a standing ovation!

-Listen, if you let him, -fyi you cannot stop him- he will just sit with you and list all of the things he loves and admires about you and he will go on and on and on

-Like, he could keep going for MULTIPLE HOURS

Taichi

-Oh my goooooooddd he’s gonna freak out!!!

-His s/o!!!???!? Bringing him snacks!!!??? That they got for him?!!?!?

-He’s just soo incredibly happy that his s/o went out of their way to even show up to see him after practice, add in the fact that his s/o went and made something specifically for him?

-W o w

-He’s justtt blown away

-He’s gonna insist that he shares the snacks with his s/o and, if there’s enough he’s gonna share with the rest of his troupe/whoever is hanging around

-He has two hands, one for snack and one to hold his s/o’s hand hehe

-And he’s allwayyys singing his s/o’s praises when the others are around, so his s/o kinda become well known their baking talent

Juza

-Ok. so he’s also gonna freak, but quieter

-His eyes are just gonna dilate bc his sweet s/o brought him sweet treats?? Woaaaa

-A difference between him and taichi: his s/o and he are usually the only ones snacking, unless they specifically made enough for the others too

-He’s gonna be kinda quiet when eating them bc he’s just so happy that his s/o noticed his “hidden” sweet tooth and even made him snacks

-If one looks carefully, there is a liiitllee smile on juza’s face thats gonna last for like, an hour!! He's sooo happy!

(for both of them, just be aware that everyone in mankai think this is the cutest thing, and some people are a little jealous)

taichi seems to be the type to put coffee in a thermos[or just a general reusable metal bottle] and put it in the fridge to get cold. only to go to the fridge a while later, sip the coffee, realize its lukewarm, and then remember the concept behind thermoses.

his solution is to pop an ice cube in the bottle, put it back in the fridge, and hope for the best. [this is totally 100% not based on something i may or may not have just potentially did today :’3]

Hc that juza 100% did not know that you could dip your finger into (cooled!!!!) wax and it wouldn’t burn. 

Banri found this out when he was showing taichi how to make wax flower petals and was about to dip his finger in the wax when juza lunged over and grabbed his arm. [big sibling protection instincts never go away]. Banri was confused as hell and so was juza but for different reasons 

 Banri: ‘???? why are you grabbing my arm?? You wanna fight or something?’ 

Juza: ‘???? why are you actively trying to BURN YOURSELF??? Are you dumber than I gave you credit for??’ 

 Once it all gets cleared up juza is a teeny bit [read: very much so] embarrassed so he just leaves to go on a walk, while banri finds himself giggly and strangely glad knowing that juza moved that fast to try and ‘protect’ him.

Were friends supposed to make your chest feel tight like that? Was it weird that he could still feel juza’s strong and steady hand on his wrist?.....was it weird that he might have wanted, just for a second, to hold that hand?

Ok im so sorry, he was a little scared of you (ó﹏ò｡)

Like!!! You seemed so cool!! And he always saw you smiling to yourself when no one else was around! But he was way too nervous to talk to you

Reason being, he had once seen you have a FULL BLOWN ARGUMENT WITH SAKYO OF ALL PEOPLE (he was asking why you were loitering outside of the theatre and you were not about to tell him you were waiting for that cute little red-haired skater boy to come outside, so you did the next best thing and told gramps to piss off <3)

A little context: you had gone to see the closing night production of “How Wonderfully Picaresque” and your heart melted at that kid roughly your age playing such a sweet and tragic character.,,.,you really wanted to meet him but were a touch nervous to go up to him after the show so you kindaaaaaa started walking past the mankai dorms every now and then to see if you could ever catch that kid alone and talk to him

You caught him one day on a grocery run!!!! Lets goooooo!!!!!!!!

He was absolutely enamoured with what Kazu referred to as your “gap moe”

Like, you would bring him candies and pretty flowers every now and then!!! And his heartttttttttttt!!!!!!!!!!! Waaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And then he got to see you banter with banri like you were made for it??? He loves watching both sides of you so much it’s unreal

Eventually everyone in mankai learns how you work, so if tenma is ever trying to nag you to help him hold the bags on a grocery run he’ll make sure taichi is in the room. He’s annoyingly clever, because taichi goes where you go, so now you, taichi, and tenma are hauling back broccoli and eggplant and tenma is barely holding anything >:)))

AAAA can we PLEASE have sakyo and taichi dad and son bonding headcanons 😭😭

Mmmmmm, ok, so at first it seems like a very small thing, but sakyo always turns to look at taichi when he is talking so he always show that he is playing attention

Taichi couldn't pinpoint exactly what he was doing at first, and all he knew is that he always got the feeling that sakyo paid attention to him. But when he noticed that he actually moved to have a conversation his lil puppy heart was vv happy

Every time taichi gets a test back he shows it to two people right away, izumi first if the grade is lower, and sakyo first if he got a higher grade than he expected. Sakyo tends to respond with a ‘Good, that's what it should look like.’, because he's gotta look tough >:) but!! He always gives taichi a little pat on the shoulder bc he knows the kid worked very hard

On that note!! Sakyo is very serious about making sure that none of the kids overwork themselves or get burned out. He specifically makes sure that he tracks how long taichi has been working on any given thing to make sure he takes breaks

Quite a few times he’s had to pick up taichi off of his desk and tuck him into bed. Often times he checks to see what he was working on, if it’s something that he happens to know about he’ll talk with taichi about it the next morning to give him a little recap and maybe some extra details to impress his teachers with [if he doesn’t know the work he’ll have one of the older kids or adults try and help taichi, usually banri volunteers for this]

Sakyo never goes to sleep if one of the kids are still awake and working, so he will check in on all of them too

Whenever taichi goes out skating sakyo will stop him at the door and make sure he has his helmet and knee pad and elbow pads and a bottle of water and a first aid kit and is your phone charged? And do you have any pocket money in case of an emergency? And- [sakyo, gramps, the kid has already snuck out]

Speaking of! Taichi is a little gremlin and i do believe he’s snuck out before after his curfew, sakyo always notices and watches for him to come home

Every father’s day taichi hand-makes something for the old man (affectionate)

If sakyo has time he’ll take taichi out for something on his birthday, but if he’s busy for the day he’ll ask sakoda to hang with taichi [those two get along like a house on fire!!]

CONTENT WARNING: this piece is about disordered eating [nothing very graphic, but mentions of some of the milder side effects of not eating well for a somewhat extended period of time] so please please take caution in reading

I honestly think Taichi may struggle with eating properly. Like, I can see him feeling super nervous during the middle of spring, because ‘oh jeez, summer is coming and I totally gained weight, I know I did, ah shit.,,’. He’d get worried about how he has a smaller frame compared to the other guys in Mankai, and especially the guys in his troupe. Like, Omi is huge. When he’s in a bad headspace, just standing up near Omi makes him feel so scrawny and pathetic. So he starts eating in a very unbalanced manner. While simultaneously trying to lose his ‘winter weight’ and gain muscle, Taichi starts skipping meals and doing strenuous workouts way more often than his body can handle. He starts sneaking into the kitchen late at night, trying to find something to stave off his hunger so he can sleep. He starts feeling dizzy and lightheaded multiple times a day. He can barely help Yuki sew anymore because his seams keep going crooked and he’s just too woozy and ‘God it's warm in here’ ‘Shit I'm freezing’ ‘Dude I’m fine I swear! (I feel sick)’ and he can't keep track of where the needle is going. Two and a half weeks of this. He feels terrible. Not only is his body struggling to keep up with his activities and schoolwork, he feels incredibly guilty for lying to everyone. Because, let's be real, some of the older members of Mankai know something is up with Taichi. Izumi can see that something is wrong, but she can't pinpoint exactly what. Kazu is worried about his peppy little bro seeming so wiped out at 3 in the afternoon. And Omi. Shit. It feels horrible lying to him. And smiling while lying to his face? Taichi feels nauseated every time he does it. 

 “I ate already!!”

“Oh don't worry, I had a big lunch, I’m just not hungry for dinner!”

“Haha, I’ll tell ya if I’m hungry Omimiiii!” 

Three weeks. Three weeks of this. And Taichi is in the kitchen at 2 in the morning, with a sad little sandwich in his cold hand. And he stubs his toe.

And apparently that was the last fucking straw.

And he slides down the side of the countertop to curl up into himself on the floor. And he cries. And he cries. Juza was the first one who found Taichi curled up on the floor and got scared. Unsure of how to proceed, he gently laid his hand on the little boy’s shaking back. Opening his arms, allowing Taichi to lean in and be held, asked who he would be comfortable talking with. And now we have Omi and Izumi sitting on the couch with Taichi, comforting him and listening attentively as he tells them everything. No more lying. Never again. I promise. I'm so sorry. Omi and Izumi glanced at each other for a moment, and the two minds as one body, proceeded to reassure this kid in front of them. “Taichi, its ok” 

“...what?” 

“Listen to me, hey hey, look at me please? Taichi, listen please.” 

“It's okay Nanao. I promise. We love you.” 

“We care about you. I promise.” 

 “It’s alright.” 

“It's okay.” 

“We love you” 

All Taichi can do is cry harder, cradled in Izumi and Omi’s arms, surrounded by the warmest reassurance he’s felt in a while. Omi and Izumi spend the next few hours calming Taichi down, re-assuring him that they’re here for him, that they still love him, that they’ll always love him. that they could never be mad at him for something like this. And Izumi chokes a little bit between ‘like’ and ‘this’. Someone in her care, god, a child in her care was hurting so bad and she couldn't help sooner? She could have helped with this one. She knew what it felt like to…no, she knows what it feels like, she, oh god, she knows and it’s bad. She’s tensed up to hell and back, she will not cry right now, this is not about her. but of course, Taichi notices. And he silently leans his forehead against her shoulder in assumed understanding. Omi notices and he keeps one hand on Taichi’s knee and one hand slides to the middle of Izumi’s back. Warm. Solid. Safe.

Tucked up on the couch like this, Taichi falls asleep first. Omi and Izumi can’t bring themselves to sleep yet though, and they both sit there for a little over an hour, in rapt contemplation of the boy between him, and the way he looked younger when he was asleep. There was a quiet comfort in how they both laid a hand each on Taichi’s back, in how Izumi’s hand tentatively searches for Omi’s behind the cushion between them, and how Omi gently catches it, and holds on to her, absolutely swept with a sense of fierce protectiveness, of reverence, and a sickening twist of fear and deep seated care for the two sleeping bodies next to him.

Misumi just so happened to wake up earliest that morning, having planned to cut up some triangle shaped fruits for Natsugumi’s picnic later that day. Yawing and wrapping his crochet blanket [courtesy of Yuki] to bunch up on his shoulders, he sleepily shuffled into the living room, walking to pull aside the curtains to let in some sunlight almost on autopilot, when he stopped in the middle of the carpet, standing stock still. Oh boy. Something deeeefinitely happened here. Something not very nice at all. As quiet as he could, Misumi tip-toed over to the couch, gently laying his blanket over Taichi and Omi, and slid off his hoodie to cover up Izumi. As darling as they looked, all cuddled up, Misumi’s heart absolutely ached seeing how desperately it seemed Taichi was clutching onto the hem of Omi’s shirt, how protectively the two adults had been sitting around Taichi. Putting aside the fruit for now, Misumi thought it best to put on a pot of water to make some black tea for the little group when they woke up. It’s what his grandfather did whenever Misumi was feeling all sad and run-down. While the water boiled he snuck around to the rooms of anyone he guessed could have been awake that early, Chikage and Itaru, Tasuku, Kazunari and Kumon, he even flagged down Kamekichi and asked him to keep the living room clear of any visitors till the trio woke up. Bustling around the kitchen, he couldnt help but softly giggle as he heard Taichi yawn and stretch out, one arm hanging off of the couch, and Misumi caught himself blushing a little as he turned around to see Omi [still half asleep], pulling Izumi closer, who, in turn, snuggled in, with her hand resting on the back of Taichi’s head. Pretty cute.
