Even The Darkest of Nights End In Sunlight

Yureni sighed as he looked out into the royal garden where he could see his sister sitting next to a large statue of their mother, her shield raised high .

The boy had heard from his older sister of how the garden seemed to be more beautiful at dawn just as the sun was rising above the palace walls, the sunset violets, crimson orchids, and gold and orange marigolds sparkling with morning dew in the soft morning light.

He heard familiar footsteps behind him, followed by his mom's soft voice. "I knew I would find you here. What's on your mind?"

"What was my mother like... before she died?" Yureni asked softly. Janai smiled sadly as she replied, "She was fearless, brave, strong, and kind. She was the only one who I could call my match, my love, my light in the dark." His mom's eyes softened as she asked."You dont have to answer, but why do you want to know about her?"

The teen was silent for a few seconds before replying."I want to know because she died when I was too young to really remember her." He wiped some tears from his eyes with a soft sniffle. He felt his mom place her hand on his shoulder. The teen leaned his head back and whispered, "I just wish she was here." Janai sighed softly before kissing her son's forehead."I wish she was still here too. You would have made her so proud, sunbeam."

Still thinking about Karim and Janai’s contrasts and there really is something about the way that when Karim and Miyana reunite the first thing Karim does is make it about him; it’s not oh Miyana what happened why are you here are you okay? but instead “I thought you had abandoned me”, and when she reassures him that despite appearances her loyalty never wavered, he still presses, until she adds “my love”. Like, the way Karim is pretty consistently self centred, even in his dynamic with Miyana, his lover, meanwhile Janai has to be prodded by Amaya before she even asks herself what she herself wants out of life. The way that yes, Amaya has been supporting Janai these last couple seasons, which mirrors the supporting role Miyana has been presented as playing to Karim (except for when his foolhardiness and thickheadedness make it hard, like when he demands the Six Horns arrest Janai for ‘forfeiting’ the challenge) the two couples are night and day different. Janai and Amaya are a balanced pair, and Janai takes Amaya’s advice and concerns to heart (the “are we moving too fast?” and “two cakes” conversations are good examples), and whilst there aren’t always easy answers, they listen to and respect each other. Meanwhile Karim repeatedly disregards or overrides Miyana’s comments and concerns, and then still expects her to be there for him. The way the two relationships bear superficial similarities (a Sunfire royal and their loyal badass General who is also their lover) that only serve to highlight how very different they are, is very satisfying storytelling

I would like to advocate to make Janaya and Amaya the official mascots of sword lesbians
