Against his better judgment, Gale spends a night with Astarion. Then he does it again.
Sanguine and its (recently finished) sequel Decathect, in one place for your reading convenience.
do we think gale’s forehead scar is from something cool like battle or did he at age 4 run at full speed into the corner of a table and have to be taken by his mom to get stitches
hello! not exactly a gale thought, but would you be ok with me posting a doodle based on one of your gale writings? of course I'll credit and link back to your blog and post! it's the one where mystra visits gale in the form of a child when he's really young, i've been thinking about it a lot :') no worries if not!
of COURSE! thanks so much for asking—visual art is so so impressive to me and I’d be thrilled to see any work inspired by my writing :)
(twirling my hair around a finger) I dunno... just, like, them getting together before either even knows they have a chance to make their respective decisions. it's something to do—and effective stress relief. in real time astarion watches gale catch feelings for him and finds the whole thing terribly funny, how pathetic he is, how endearing... okay, so he likes him too, the way you can't help but like the runt in a litter of puppies, rooting for him against the world that's disadvantaged him.
it's astarion, first, who gets the chance to ascend, and it's gale's watery eyes and scuffed knees that talk him out of it, saying it's freedom astarion wants, not power, that he wants him as is, loves him as is, and doesn't want to see him corrupted. something something being reflected so fondly in another's eyes—how could astarion possibly go through with it?
so when gale finds out godhood is on the table—when he's actually considering it, astarion almost thinks it's a joke. where was the gale who spoke so reprovingly of power?
but gale's always had freedom, and it's power he wants. it's power he takes, when he becomes a god—and power he promises to share with astarion.
astarion resents him for it, a little bit, always. but even the proximity to gale's godly power is intoxicating, and how could he not stay, when he has nothing otherwise?
(whispers in ur ear) god gale x non-ascended astarion
Gale's Revelation (cut scene from Early Access)

Gale: (upon propositioning the player and being rejected in favor of another) I.. I see. He's a lucky man. Loyalty is such a... Such a very rare commodity.
Gale: Apologies, I really did think you and I... But no. Perhaps it's for the better. In fact I'll let you be the judge of that. After all, I still have a story to tell.
Gale: It is a story full of answers long overdue. It is the story of a man who fell in love with a goddess.
Player: Very well, I'll play along. Regale me, Gale.
Gale: Thank you.
Gale: Once upon a time, not quite that long ago, there lived a wizard in a tower. The wizard was what one might call a prodigy, who from an only age could not only control the Weave, but compose it, much like a musician or poet. Such was his skill that it earned him the attention of the mother of magic herself. The Lady of Mysteries. Mystra.
Player: What did Mystra's attention feel like?
Gale: Love.
Gale: Perhaps it was not quite love, but, you see, the wizard was but a very young man. It was most certainly love to him. Mystra showed him the secrets beneath the veils. The gossamer veils first, draped across the Weave. The delicate veils next, draped across her body. 'Chosen One' she whispered, as she slipped them off completely.
Player: The veils draped across the Weave?
Gale: Indeed. What most wizards perceive is but the ripple of the Weave's surface. Untold wonders lie beyond. I enjoyed them for a while. As we enjoyed each other.
