I've decided that I'm gonna try to draw up a quick expression every day as practice, so here's number one! ^-^

Well, number two if you count my latest little drawing lol

He kinda looks like Cherry Blossom from SK8, I realised just now bahahaha

Out practicing my bow skills, I couldn't ask for better company ^-^🧡

I watched this happen in real time, it was horrifying

Here he is!! The finished boy!! :D

May I present, twenty-something-year-old Pirate Captain Jim Hawkins:

Along with some close-ups and fun facts, of course, the latter of which will be under the cut ^-^

The cross necklace is actually a small reference to a real pirate, who lived during the golden age of piracy! Bartholomew Roberts was known to wear a diamond-encrusted gold cross around his neck ^-^

The moon pendant is, - surprise surprise - a reference to Montressor Spaceport :] (and the diamond of course represents Montressor itself)

I've also given him a blue long coat, party because blue actually was one of the colours that commonly appeared in pirate attire, but also as a little homage to Captain Amelia, since that felt like a very in-character thing for Jim to do. The red details in his get-up aren't there for no reason, either, as he wears them in memory of Mr. Arrow

This doodle was so incredibly fun to make, and there weren't really any major hiccups anywhere along the way!

I'm most happy with his face and the red sash around his waist. I'm extremely satisfied with how the lighting ended up making it look like a very luxurious fabric, just like I wanted it to :]

What is that weird cluster of glowing orbs, you ask? I have no idea lmfao

Heyo, friends! Have this thing I painted yesterday, as a result of wondering what would happen if I mixed charcoal with liquid oil medium :]

Mild cw for blood/graphic imagery, but it's really just some abstract-ish red splatter lmao

The charcoal I used was really roughly ground (I put my charcoal scraps in a little box together with a rock and shake it up every once in a while), so it gave me some really nice texture when I mixed it with the oil medium! The eyebrows and the darkness around the eyes are good examples, as I haven't used anything else there :]

This is honestly just a mindless, self-indulgent scribble (I painted it with a butter knife lmfao-) , but I figured it would be fun to share in case someone might find my little experiment interesting ^-^

I'm thinking about finishing it, but I'm not quite sure how I would do that lmao. I might add in some painted flowers, poppies could look very nice, I imagine!

We've got a concept, peeps!

He's no longer just a head and some shoulders lmfao, look at him go :D

I always knew pirate clothes would be fun to draw ^-^

And don't worry, I've done some research!! Any 'rules' that I've broken in this doodle, I've broken on purpose for the sake of a more interesting picture

A pirate captain wouldn't have worn a fancy long coat while out at sea, but rather something similar to what regular sailors would have worn at the time, just like the rest of the crew. If a pirate captain did have such a coat, it wouldn't really have been worn unless they were up on land. (or, down on land, in this case?)

But this is just a silly little fantasy doodle, so I've decided to let him have his fancy coat, along with a slightly more luxurious red fabric for some details (some of which I have yet to add) in his get-up :]

If anything about the pose looks off, please do tell me! I draw most of my doodles without reference (other than what I have in my head, I suppose), so constructive criticism is very welcome! ^-^
