Ace watched in horror as he watched Pops fight to make his way towards him. He knew that the man he saw as a father was not in the best of health, and knew that if he survived this fight there would be hell to pay for it. Perhaps Pops would do this for any of his sons, perhaps he was doing it because of who Ace's blood relative was... he didn't know, but in his eyes Pops was too important to risk.

Tears welled in his eyes, threatening to fall once more when he heard Whitebeard's words. He leaned forward, feeling the pressure of his shackles digging into his wrists. "Pops, please!" Ace's voice broke as he spoke, tears finally falling down his cheeks. "I don't want to go home if it means you won't be there." He couldn't be the cause of why everyone lost Pops, not when it was his own fault that he was on the execution block.

Whitebeard's outlook was different. Many thought he was saving Ace because he was Roger's son, that he wanted to make Ace the Pirate King. That wasn't it at all. Ace was young. He was part of the next generation, and most of all, he was his precious and beloved son. His found a family that he had always wanted. If leniage played any part in this, it was Rouge, Ace's mother that added to the importance Ace held for him rather than Roger.

"You just hold on, Son. I'll be taking you home." Newgate grinned, feeling more spriey in the heat of battle. It was likely the adrenaline, but he felt young and alive again for once. It felt good, even if he knew it wasn't good for him. This may well be his last battle, but he would go out fighting, and he would protect his family. He just needed his body to hold up a little bit longer.
