Thankfully, I find it pretty rare to come across fics with really clunky epithets these days. So much so that it's super jarring when I do. And maybe those writers use them because they do like them, which, you know, more power to them. I'll always encourage people to write what makes them happy. I don't think hobby writing always has to be an exercise in striving to be the most polished, professionally-edited-looking you can be. As long as they're enjoying their process and understand, like you said, that it might not always appeal to a broader audience, hey, more power to them! ✌️
