Work in Progress

I got back into making art / digital collages in GIMP a few weeks ago, after years of not touching the program and wanted to make a place to post my creations.

Two variations of a digital collage made in GIMP with a picture from pexels.com and a tarot art motive from wikimedia commons (public domain), representing the Hanged Man ending from the videogame "Who's Lila?" by Garage Heathen. I used the dithering option in GIMP to get the ditherpunk effect.

Further thoughts below the cut:

This one really felt like being hit over the head with inspiration; I saw the picture of what is the background in this piece and was immediately like "Hanged Man Ending!" and then found the Hanged Man tarot art and they just - fit. So well.

It took a couple tries and iterations to get it exactly how I wanted it to be, but I am really happy about how this piece turned out.

Fun fact, I tried to use the 'Tomiho' color palette for the first version of the pic. As a treat for the fans of the game.

"Who's Lila?"

Aesthethic/Moodboard made with GIMP using stock images from pexels.com for the videogame "Who's Lila?" by Garage Heathen. Both the game and this piece of art use 'dithering' as an art style.

Thoughts beneath the cut:

My first aesthetic/moodboard! I challenged myself to make some art for media I liked using only stock images as well as trying to recreate the style used, and Who's Lila became an easy choice once I discovered the dithering option in GIMP.

I enjoyed trying out different color options, choosing and arranging the different pictures. Maybe in the future I will try out some of the different color palettes this game has to offer, for now, I decided to stick with the 'standard' one.

Making this gave me the inspiration and confidence to try out making different aesthetics for other art pieces/media as well, so that is an additional plus. I also made some more Who's Lila pieces as well.

[sources: x / x / x / x / x ]

Aesthetic/moodboard made in GIMP with free stock images from unsplash. I tried to capture the general aesthetic of 'Frutiger Aero'.

Further thoughts below the cut:

I am pretty sure I didn't manage to be 100% accurate to the Frutiger Aero aesthetic, but I think its passable for a first attempt. I just tried to capture the 'vibe', the general imagery and colors associated with it.

(Sidenote: pexels.com makes it a lot easier to find photos again, whereas with unsplash, it took more effort. I recommend getting an account and making picture collections to easily find the photos again.)

"Aesthetic - Poolcore + Dithering + Turquoise/Cerulean"

Aesthetic/moodboard made in GIMP with stock images from pexels.com. Uses the dithering option in GIMP and has a main focus on the colors of turquoise/cerulean.

Additional thoughts below the cut:

Inspired by the Cerulean Waves Mall playlist on Youtube, which I listened to while making this. I also wanted to see if I could use the dithering filter/effect I used while making my "Who's Lila?" artwork for other things, and this is pretty much the polar opposite in terms of colors and style. So I am very happy how this turned out, the colors are very pretty imo.

"Incomplete Memories"

A digital collage made in GIMP with a stock image from Pexels.com and a picture of George Brehm's "Woman's Home Companion- September 1916" illustration (public domain in the US). Based on 'The Backrooms' series by Kane Pixels, esp on the character of Ivan Beck.

Additional thoughts below the cut:

Another piece inspired by Ivan Beck and The Backrooms. This one is kind of still a WIP, as I am not fully happy with it, but I wanted to post this stage nontheless.

The George Brehm painting appears in Found Footage 2 and is speculated to relate to Ivan Beck in some way. It fit *incredibly* well into the stock image, and even adding some light effects and shadows worked out very well imo.

Might be I will return to this piece in the future. We'll see.
