Four Lines/Snippets Writing Share Tag!
Thanks for the tag @the-golden-comet (here) and @topazadine (here)!
My Lines: A line about kindness, a line about work, a line about a relative, a line about an animal; A line about regret, a line about landscapes, a line about the future, a line about weather Your Lines: A line about unconditional love, a line about cruelty, a line about being lost, a line about cute stuff
I'll go with lines from Scrapyard Boys, Supernova Initiative, Crooked Fable, and The Crystal of Ash for this one!
Kindness (The Crystal of Ash)
"Why...Why are you freeing me?" The Sorcerer asked, distrust barely masked by the politeness in his voice, as he refused to budge from the floor, despite his wrists having been unchained.
Declan stammered, "Because what they're doing to you isn't right." He said, exasperated by having to state the obvious.
The Sorcerer's eyes - like tiny galaxies with thousands of stars - narrowed as he looked up, "But I'm a monster."
Declan opened his mouth to answer, but Aelia spoke first, and the kind understanding in her voice was honestly the most jarring thing about this whole situation. "We know. But even monsters deserve dignity."
Work (Scrapyard Boys, Adrien's POV)
"And so you work for me - that's the way this story goes. If I say jump, you say how high. If I tell you to do something, you do it. So, when I tell you to get back the fuck in there and stop wasting my time with these stupid excuses, you go back and spend another hour or two on that stripper pole." He said, and though Adrien glared at him, the young man knew very well there wasn't much of a second option. The mobster tilted his head, brows furrowing "Got it?”
Relative (Supernova Initiative, Flashback Chapter)
Through tears, the young nobleman looked up, stiffened in place as she carded her hand through his ice-white locks, the motion akin to that of someone soothing a wounded stray. Even in silence, Kye recognized the brief, barely noticeable glint of outrage behind his Dad’s eyes, mirroring his own, before it was quickly buried under a mask of pliancy. “...Of course, my love.”
Animal (Scrapyard Boys, Valen's POV)
The older man looked down at him, amused. "Hm." Jake stalked around the kneeling mutant, slowly, like a tiger ready to pounce, "That can be arranged. Eventually. But not until I get what I want."

Regret (The Crystal of Ash)
Nahrieh ran his hand over the smooth stone, tracing the detailed carvings on the temple wall, "I never should have left that island," He spoke, half-whispered, to no one in particular, as if to himself, "If I hadn't..." The Sorcerer's voice cracked with grief and a touch of anger, wondering, "Maybe... their fates would have been different. Kinder."
Landscapes (Supernova Initiative, Ch. 2)
At the moment, the three of them were making their way down a busy inner street in the center of the settlement, the perpetually dust-grey sky lit up by the neon lights of the myriad of shops, eateries, and clubs scattered around and into a maze of side streets.
Future (Scrapyard Boys)
"Good plan!" He exclaimed, practically giddy, "Man, I can't wait for us to find Adrien's place - then we'll convince him to let us buy all the ice cream we want!"
Weather (Supernova Initiative)
Artemis flips him off with a scowl, glaring at the sharp sleet storm in the wind outside, "You are just the same sorry candy-ass as you were all those years ago, and I don't know why the fuck Jack keeps you in the crew."

Let's go with a line from Supernova Initiative!!! Gabi's POV
The agent began, voice monotone and reeking of false sympathy, “He has lied to you -”
Gabi laughed, cutting off the woman's spiel, "Wow. Such news! You think I don't already know that?" She tilts her head with a puzzled smirk, "And that I already forgave him? You can't seriously expect me to side with the Junction instead of with the man who raised me. Are you forgetting that before he had to lie to me, you guys lied to him first?”
The woman on the other side of the metal table continued, face and voice unchanged, as if she barely heeded the girl's words. “Does it not matter to you that he is the one who killed your true family?”
Gabi rolls her eyes, looking at the woman with mock pity, "Aw. Cute try!" She taunted, eyes narrowing like razors, "And who lied to him about the mission, huh? Hm? You did. Who saved me from the aftermath, once he realized what had happened? He did. Your government used him to kill them - which means the real killers are your people. He was just your murder weapon.”
Her words were cold and precise, like an exacto knife cutting right through the woman's prepared droning of bullshit she didn't care enough to hear. "Would you be mad at the one holding the trigger with premeditated intent, or at the unsuspecting gun that fired the bullet?"

i saw your clickbait title (thanks for joining that game btw!!) and scrapyard boys was so interesting to me! care to share some lore/fun facts/general info?
Thank you for the ask, @the-letterbox-archives!!!!! That tag game was really fun, I'm glad you made it! I love to ramble about my WIPs, and Scrapyard Boys is one of my current favorites, so here we go!
Scrapyard Boys is a cyberpunk, futuristic superhero story! It started out as a spin-off of my other WIP Mutant Inquiries, and while it indeed takes place in the same world/setting as that story, it has long since become its own thing.
The plot takes place in a main city called New Omnium, which is on the one hand the heart of the cybertech developments in the country but also a very lawless and dangerous place to live in, with a lot of inequality and prejudice running amok deep in the city. For lack of a better way to describe it quickly, New Omnium is pretty much like a cyberpunk version of Gotham City but even more lawless. In this futuristic world, mutant superpowers have "mysteriously" - or so most think - become widespread in the population of this country many years ago, and are now a part of daily life and another reason for conflicts within its population. The big techs and corporations have long since started to profit from this, and with the help of the government, superhero Agencies (and a training Academy for mutant youths) were established to turn "the best of the best" of the city's mutants into supersoldiers. The main branch of these kinds of agencies, Spectre Agency and the Spectre Academy, are vastly sponsored by the city's PHANTOM Industries - a big cyberpharmaceutical company.
Despite most of the population looking up to the superhero teams that come out of these Agencies and Academies, these places hide a dark, and cruel secret as to how they turn unsuspecting mutant teenagers into these lethal supersoldiers. A good portion of the mutant youths that live on the streets of New Omnium dread being caught and sent to the Spectre Academy - because those who are either are not seen again or come out completely changed. Still, due to a massive governmental and media effort, most of the general population adores Spectre and have no clue what is truly going on within.
The main plot follows Valen Cassidy, a young runaway mutant with electrical powers who has become quite a nuisance to the city's government, and his equally chaotic friend group (composed of other downtrodden mutant street kids). Valen was the son of a genius investigative journalist who was trying to discover what the government and those big companies were hiding, but after she was killed, he was almost sent to one of Spectre's training facilities. But instead, Valen managed to escape the agents sent to bring him there, and ran away from the government, using his dangerous powers to rebel while trying to finish his mother's investigation.
Some of the other main characters include:
Luke Katt: An angry and often violent teenager with a heart of gold, who was sent to juvenile prison after killing his abusive godfather. He escaped containment a few years after to rescue his little brother, Riley, and after being reunited the two ran away to the streets, now free, eventually meeting Valen. Luke becomes Valen's best and most loyal friend. Luke's powers are Healing, Wound Generation, and Regeneration.
Saoirse Richards: The daughter of a foreign doctor and bioengineer who ended up mysteriously killed in a fire, Saoirse escaped from facing a similar fate that day, and now is determined to find out who started the fire on her father's lab. She is a close friend of both Luke and Valen. Her powers are Telekinesis, Psionic Blast Generation, and Force Field Generation.
Gwyn & Rhys Whitewood: Twins, they ended up in one of the Spectre Academy's secret labs after accidentally developing mutant powers after coming in contact with a chemical leak. After three years in captivity, the twins managed to escape and fled to the city of New Omnium, where they were reunited with their half-brother, Adrien Rosetrom, who didn't know they were alive until then. Gwyn was a childhood acquaintance of Saoirse. The twin's powers are: Ice Manipulation, Frost Generation, and Cold Water Manipulation.
Emily & Quince Warren: Younger sister and older brother, Emily and Quince were the niece and nephew of the man who once was the city's most beloved superhero, known as Magmatorch, the two rich siblings had their reality shattered after discovering the bleak truth behind the Spectre Agency's perfect front, and after their uncle went suspiciously MIA, they were made targets by the government as well, and managed to run away just in time. Emily's powers are Combustion and Explosion Generation, and Quince's powers are Blood Manipulation plus Heat Manipulation.
Erin Sterlern: Another runaway, Erin ended up stumbling across a conspiracy after invading a crime scene to investigate the truth behind her foster cousin's suspicious disappearance. Despite not being very close to him and not having the best relationship, Erin swore to find out who kidnapped him and eventually found evidence that the PHANTOM Industries were involved. She ran away from home to prevent her uncle and aunt from becoming targets of the government while she investigated the matter further. Erin doesn't have any powers, but lately, she has started to have strange, cryptic dreams, almost like premonitions.
Josh Aleta: Erin's adoptive/foster cousin, Josh was a brash, often rude, and extremely rebellious teenager with anger issues, a standard angsty 17-year-old, soon to be 18, but he ended up kidnapped by the PHANTOM Industries after witnessing something he was not supposed to, and being set up by his so-called "friends." His disappearance is one of the many mysteries of this story, and though he later escapes, he is very much not the same afterward. His powers are Fear/Nightmare Manipulation/Generation.
Kay Rodriguez: A genuinely upstanding teen living with his mother and father, Kay ends up roped into the chaotic shenanigans of the main cast after deciding to help them out of a dangerous situation. He has a kind heart and a generally no-nonsense attitude to life, and though he never had many friends, Kay never really minded it. He becomes a close friend of the main cast though. His powers are Plant Generation/Plant Manipulation and mild Geo Manipulation (earth powers).

✦ MY WRITEBLR INTRODUCTION ✦
Hey! I've been here for a while and I've somehow amassed a shocking amount of followers and mutuals, so I figured it's finally time for me to force one of these out for you guys!
(And you know... a masterpost... when I get around to it. 😅😭)

About me:
✦ Barlowe (she/her)
✦ In my early 20s
✦ A writer of 10 years ✦ working on novels for 6 of 10!
✦ Less dedicated to—but still interested in!—drawing, animation, photography, and cinematography
✦ AuDHD and a grey lesbian (aka I'm leaning asexual) ✦ (my writing may or may not be a special interest)
✦ I have a whole bunch of other neurodivergencies besides AuDHD but I don't think y'all want me to get into all of them, haha. ✦ oh, and I say "haha" a lot. I apologize in advance.
✦ I think I'm hilarious and make jokes constantly
✦ I use a lot of emojis and tone tags to help convey tone. Please forgive me if it's annoying, it's to cope with my inability to communicate. /lh /hj

My Obsessions:
✦ Fantasy, horror, mystery, action, and exploration of realistic characters' reactions to the things they go through.
✦ Fairy tales, mythology, and folklore
✦ "Ye Olde History" and language
✦ DIVERSITY!!!
✦ Explorations of "evil-coded" characters and abilities--aka, not just showing them as evil. Show them as people (for characters) and tools (for abilities)!
✦ Traumatizing my characters just like I've been
✦ Traumatizing my characters in ways I haven't been!
✦ Learning!!!
✦ Talking way too much about the things I like to the point that I need to make a whole separate post to share it so it doesn't clutter my intro post... oh, hey, why is this linked?
✦ THE AESTHETIC!!!!

My Aesthetics:
Those who've been following me for a bit probably know that I adore "the aesthetic" and try to make my posts look nice... even if there's no real reason to besides that it gives me a little serotonin. Here's my favorite aesthetics!
✦ Starry; night sky ✦ Dawn / dusk ✦ Sunrise / sunset
✦ Nature! ✦ Forestry ✦ Cottagecore ✦ Rustic ✦ Ocean
✦ Literally all of them, please and thank you

Masterpost:
(to be added later)

My Writing:
✎ Sun and Shadow
Everything goes wrong for Freya Ula when she leaves her simple life as a fisherwoman to get engaged overseas. Her ship gets wrecked, she finds out her dad's been hiding secrets from her for her whole life, and, oh, she gets framed for a terrorist attack. Wait, WHAT!? After the city's greatest detective is attacked and disappears before she could consult with him, Frey has to enlist the help of his kid and her would-be fiancée to find out who framed her and clear her name. If only Crow was half as good a detective their dad was supposed to be.
Main characters: Freya, Crow, Daleira
✦ Urban-esque high fantasy ✦ purposely very tropey in places ✦ however, as always, I love throwing in curveballs. Wonder what's played straight and what I'm going to emotionally destroy you with. Definitely won't be Crow.
✦ Slow-burn romance between Freya and Crow ✦ immediate interest between Freya / Daleira ✦ oh, look, it's a love triangle? ✦ JOKE'S ON YOU, IT'LL ACTUALLY BE POLY ✦ it's just... going to take a while.
✦ Lesbians, lesbians everywhere ✦ though Crow is actually genderfluid and uses they/them for the first book ✦ despite barely having anything written I've already plotted a bit of book 2 ✦ I desperately need help.
✦ Unsurprisingly is a detective mystery with action mixed in ✦ I'm not typically a romance writer, I excel in action fantasy ✦ please have mercy on my soul
✦ Lots of magic, it's high fantasy + victorian aesthetic ✦ (aka "gaslamp fantasy" if you've heard of it) ✦ Freya's got sun-themed magic ✦ gasp, I know ✦ Crow's got shadow magic ✦ wonder why this sounds familiar ✦ Daleira's got, hm, well it's also shadowy! ✦ spoilers 😘
✦ About to be updated en-masse for a writing contest!!!
✎ The Arcane Rifts
Ghosts of past tragedies haunt the town of Kavo after decades of neglect. Fantastical creatures desiring nothing but fear and destruction hide in invisible tears in reality. Gangs and the police are at constant war with one another, there's a shapeshifting monster running amok, and the mayor's assistant suddenly wants a disabled orphan kicked to the streets. A year ago, Gene was discovered in the forest on the outskirts of town, half dead, amnesiac, and unable to even speak the local language. As he had nowhere to go, he was brought to the orphanage of Kavo for a place to stay. Now Caspar, the assistant of the mayor and the man who funds the orphanage, wants him kicked out. When Gene's left to the cold, cruel streets of Kavo on his own, he has to navigate through a town ravaged by decades of neglect and intrigue. Has the corruption truly been purged from the government? Why are godly forces active in Kavo, a small town in a backwater country? And most importantly--will Gene survive?
Main Characters: Gene, Tazin, Mislav, Ludmila, Rada ❧ Gene and Tazin for book 1 ❧ the other 3 start being MCs books 2 and 3 ❧ I guess Nikolai is also a MC tho
❧ Industrial-era rustic high fantasy ❧ mixes fantasy, action, horror, and mystery! ❧ oh helloooooo "ominous feychild" origin? ❧ very strong folkloric and traditional fantasy inspo ❧ except I mean "traditional fantasy" as in ❧ "we don't understand this magic stuff but we're used to it" ❧ not "travel the world adventures!"
❧ VERY involved story with strong themes of discrimination, poverty, exploitation, trauma, and the recovery from trauma ❧ each main and secondary character is one flavor of discriminated against or another in-universe ❧ obviously I try to write it respectfully, but you can't really write bigots being bigots "respectfully"
❧ Has two "main plots" going on simultaneously; technically three ❧ I periodically give the reader updated "character guides" ❧ like they get more recent plot info added kinda like a red-string board to keep you, the audience, up-to-date with info you might've otherwise missed ❧ I think it's really cool and people seem to enjoy it ❧ I know it seems like a lot but please give it a chance
❧ I've literally plotted out pretty much the entirety of the first and second books, and know most of how book 3 will go, yet there's very little out for the current version of the story ❧ part of that is because I'm paused on the 3rd draft
❧ There's lots of timeskips throughout the first two books, but they're mostly to age up the protagonists! Gene, the MC, starts the series at 7. I promise it's not a kid's story though.
❧ The "secondary MC", Nikolai, is the police chief investigating magical stuff going on at the same time. They tie in with the main story involving Gene, though won't appear to for a long while.
❧ The "golden child" series I love more than SaS; however it's on hiatus because I promised people to work on SaS first and SaS is more popular as a romance-focused story. :/ ❧ I would never be salty about that.

OC Fun Facts Tag!
Thanks for tagging me, @thecomfywriter (here)!!!
Let's go with Aelia and Emrin from The Crystal of Ash, and Tarah & Kye from Supernova Initiative for this one!
Aelia 🍂
She is the daughter of a man who once was the most successful thief and the most wanted man on the continent across the sea. Once he amassed wealth to rival that of most, he changed his identity and moved to the main kingdom of the story, where he posed as a powerful merchant and became a very influential man. Thus, Aelia both has thief skills and knows upper-class etiquette - as she was raised in both environments.
She is a wild spirit at heart, spending most of her time sparring in the chateau's courtyard, riding horses, exploring the woods, studying secret magic, and trying to learn more about the other kingdom, where she was born.
She thinks that Declan is endearing, though at first when they met he used to be concerned, a bit creeped out by the fact that she could sneak like a spider anywhere without being noticed.
She has a flying cat (those creatures are called Gryphers in their world), who is just as much a menace to society as her, and who adores stealing tarts from the kitchen because he knows he'll get away with it.
She has shown some talent for magic, though hers is a bit foreign to the local scholars when compared to the usual magic in Callonor.
Emrin 🏹
Emrin is considered an aberration both by the humans of the continent and the Levaethia, the draconic elves from beyond the mountains because she is of half-human, half-Levaethia blood.
She was taken in by a young Levaethian outcast, who had been banished by his tribe for disagreeing with their people's Way - since he believed maintaining peace with those invading their land would only lead to their people's death. He was a leader of a rebel movement, and along with his friends - became like siblings to the young Emrin, who was an outcast too, and taught her to be a ferocious assassin to any humans who invaded their land.
She's a talented archer, who rarely - if ever - misses her mark, and has a strong tie to earth/nature sorcerer, being considered a very powerful and dangerous Caster.
When she was around twelve years old, she saved a dragon pup from a trap. Much like her, dragons were seen as murderous monsters by humans and Levaethians alike, and so, after she saved the young dragonling, they developed a close bond and friendship based on that understanding.
Emrin loves wildberry juice and has quite a sweet tooth.
She blames her human blood for her being considered an outcast, which makes her alliance with the main cast very fickle, born out more of necessity than trust.

Tarah 🪻
She loves making woven bracelets with her best friend, it's their little tradition.
She's the daughter of a genius Junction scientist who had his life's work stolen from him and then found out the corruption the Director was involved in - and made the mistake of threatening to expose it. Which got him killed.
Tarah has anxiety and does not know how to properly interact with people she doesn't know, gravitating between a people-pleasing personality and a skittish one.
She has a love and a talent for learning languages.
She likes to gift people unique gifts on their birthday but often forgets her own. Not because of any self-esteem issue. Just because she is forgetful.
Tarah loves music but hates loud noises.
She has a big dog who follows her everywhere and looks like an alien version of a pitbull.
She is actually pretty good at baking.
Kye 🐍
Kye's "weapon of choice" against his enemies is poison, and he is an expert on lethal chemicals and the deadliest poisons in the galaxy. The reason why he chooses to use poison for his enemies is that poison was the cause of the death of his Dad (something that traumatized Kye deeply) - so it's kind of a way for Kye to make his enemies "suffer like his Dad did."
Kye is incredibly sarcastic and is capable of being a sassy lil' shit when he wants to.
When he was a teenager, Kye met Artemis Zreeth and they temporarily became best friends, but after an unfortunate string of terrible circumstances and misunderstandings, they went their separate ways and became rivals.
Kye hates the smell of roses - especially the artificial ones - and one of his triggers is the sound of platform heels (because his abusive mother, Eldora, used to wear rose perfume and platform heels)
Kye loves animals, especially weird ones, but also puppies and kittens. He really has a soft spot for cuteness.
One of his hobbies is embroidering, and his favorite designs to embroider are flowers
He starts out as incredibly morally grey and ruthless, but through his friendship with the main cast, slowly learns how to be kind and honorable again, while not losing his dangerous side towards his enemies.
