It's the way Akk and Kan and Wat all have parts of themselves that are isolated from each other and that those parts are always the truest parts of themselves.

It's Akk bringing the curse to life because the rules matter to him more than the rest of the world and he wants to bring peace and goodness to everyone but doesn't know another way.

It's Wat filming and editing alone, sharing his ideas but never his process, never the real passion he has for film and the real pain he has in knowing he's going to have to give it up to be the person his parents want him to be.

It's Kan staring after Thua in desperation with eyes full of love and fear and want, hiding what he wants and who he loves from everyone around him, trying to hide his own jealousy behind worry and studying and excuses and flowers and flirting and stickers that only cover up his own pain.

They're friends and their friendship is true but it's build on their private joys together, on what they share, as they each carry their own weight in secret.

The Eclipse Episode 7: They Take A Break From Student Prefecting

I have a LOT of thoughts about how the three students protesting are all clearly queer in a way they can't hide--and how that plays into Akk and Kan's opposition to their cause. A lot of thoughts.

I think it's incredibly important that the three students leading the call for the rights to express themselves-- to be visibly themselves -- are queer. Not just for this particular story, but in general. We have always had to fight for our right to exist in public, and to be safe to express ourselves, and on a slightly less serious, but no less significant note, fashion has always been a huge part of queer self expression.

Having three obviously queer characters pushing for social change and acceptance, and having Ayan on his own behind the scenes way trying to dismantle the system that is forcing conformity and blind obedience is not just important, but it's honest and accurate and brave.

The things these three are going through-- the public humiliation, the physical assault, the systematic and also secretive tearing down of their work (and ideals)... These are all things that marginalized people face every day, and every time we fight back. The way The Eclipse is not sitting away from showing the ugliness and the violence that comes with the fight for equality and acceptance is hard to watch, but it's an incredible mirror to the world.

You're allowed to be weak. At least with me. It's okay, Akk.
