Asexual and Aromantic Survey

I am currently writing a book about the experiences of those on the asexual and aromantic spectrums! As part of my research, I’m trying to compile as many personal stories as I can to include in the work - to which end, I’ve created a survey.

I’m hoping to put together a personal story of my respondents, exploring the challenges we face, the way our orientations intersect with other aspects of our identity such as disability and race, how we navigate relationships, and so on. How long the survey takes will depend on how much detail you want to go into; you could probably breeze through in a few minutes, though longer and more detailed answers will be a huge help to me.

If you are in any way ace or aro (including grey-ace/aro, demi, etc), it would mean the world to me if you filled in the survey; and if you’re not, please do spread it around! The survey will not collect your details (other than what you choose to share, of course).

Here is the link to the survey.

This but I’d like to add that with the amount of Greek gods on Troy’s side who were salty about the loss, there’s no way that they would’ve let Astyanax be peacefully raised by Odysseus.

The gods would’ve, as Zeus put it, 100% have let Astyanax know that his real father is Hector, who was killed alongside the rest of the kingdom by the side Odysseus was on. That he was being raised by the man who (unintentionally) started the Trojan war that got his people killed.

That alone could’ve been enough to make Astyanax lose his shit, but I’d imagine the gods would’ve done some even more fucked up stuff to make sure that Astyanax is brutal when he gets his revenge, making it as tragic as possible.

So, as awful as it was, Odysseus’s best bet was to kill Astyanax. You can’t be sure that Astyanax would’ve had mercy for Odysseus because he spared his life and raised him from infancy when the gods could easily poison his mind.

"Odysseus could have raised Astyanax as his own son! He shouldn't have killed him! Zeus is just an idiot who doesn't understand anything about children!"

Imagine you are Astyanx. Imagine that one day, you discover that your father, the man you thought was your father, is actually the murderer of your real father, who stole you from your cradle. Imagine that for years, you see your father lying to everyone, but the thought never crossed your mind that he might be lying to you. How do you know he didn't take you to ensure Troy would have no heir to the crown? That he took you to one day make you a puppet king in Troy for him? He's such a good liar, how do you know he wasn't lying when he looked you in the eye and said, "I love you, my son."

You know that your father—no, he's not your father, never was—did terrible things, but it never crossed your mind that you were one of the terrible things he did. You are a Trojan prince. You are Hector's son. You are not a little orphan from the battlefield that Odysseus took pity on. Odysseus destroyed your city. Odysseus lied to you. Odysseus has manipulated you. And Odysseus will PAY.

So many Greek tragedies tell about exactly this - about the attempt to prevent a tragedy, and about how the attempt failed, just as the gods and prophets had warned. If Astyanax had stayed alive, he would have murdered Odysseus' family no matter what Odysseus did, because that's how Greek tragedies work.

and yes, zeus suck.

I’m being so fr when I say that I was actually depressed the whole day when I found out he died. Never emotionally recovered.

“People aren't tools. We aren't born with any set role.”

And I could only think about him

dear non-spanish speakers writing spiderverse fanfiction (or anything with spanglish),

Dear Non-spanish Speakers Writing Spiderverse Fanfiction (or Anything With Spanglish),

in spanglish you don’t switch by word, you switch by phrase.

it’s not:

“[first part of the sentence in english], [second part of the sentence in english], mi amor.”

“[full english sentence], querida.”

it’s:

“[first part of the sentence in english], [segunda parte de la frase en español], mi amor.”

-

also miles is boricua, miguel is mexican. they have two different accents and use different vocabulary for certain words.

also miles is “nyourican” - a puerto rican native to new york - while his mom is directly from the island, so there are differences there, too, because his spanish is more influence by new york english.

here’s some good references that aren’t google translate (which usually pulls from spain, a country that speaks vastly differently from latin america)

SpanishDict

WordReference

here have some random videos on different slang/spanish accents:

Puerto Rico

Mexico (1) (2)

-

in spanish most words are gendered, so most feminine words end in a and masculine/gender neutral words end in o. adding ito/ita makes something cuter, smaller and more affectionate.

spanish nicknames that aren’t “mi amor”

“querido/a” - darling

“cariño” - dear (always masculine regardless, of who its being said to)

“mi princesa/príncipe” - my prince/princess

“mi rey/reina” - my king/queen

“papí/mamí” - can be used in any way; romantic, sexual, familial for one’s parent or child, or just platonically

“tesoro” - treasure

also spanish is a language that uses adjectives as terms of affection both cute ones and ones that might sound insensitive in english

gordo (fat), flaco (skinny), negro (black), blanco (white), linda (pretty), bella (beautiful), morena (brown skin), etc.

and like most languages that are not english, spanish has multiple ways of saying i love you.

“te amo” - romantic

“te quiero” - familial, platonic (although there’s nothing wrong with using it romantically)

see also:

te adoro - i adore you

te deseo - i want you

te necesito - i need you

and, of course, they can vary regionally too.

please use this because i have read a lot of really well written things that take me out of it because the use of spanglish is terrible. don’t just go on your presumptions that spanish/spanglish works in the same way that english does.

buena suerte, gringos.

Someone’s gotta tell DC writers that tossing around a superhero mantle like it’s hot potato is NOT the way to go 💀💀
