Ah, allow me to introduce my trusted associate, Dr. Dawson, with whom I do all my cases. Isn’t that right, Doctor?
¡This!
Why Bruce?
Oh man, I can go on and on about Bruce Banner.
Firstly, even before I was huge into Marvel, Bruce Banner and Hulk were my favorites of the Marvel superheroes. I grew up with a fascination with duality, and Hulk & Bruce definitely fit the bill. I just love the conflict between two entities within the same being. That dichotomy is so intriguing to me.
Then The Incredible Hulk happened in 2008, and I was absolutely in love. I love the struggle of man against himself, and I love how toward the end of the film, he comes to accept the Hulk part of himself, which gives him some control over his alter ego that we see in the 2012 film The Avengers.
Going back to the 2008 film. I will say that The Incredible Hulk is my favorite of the movies leading up to The Avengers. The guy gave up everything to try to rid himself of this monstrous thing he brought into the world and goes into hiding. We see him struggling to build himself up from nothing right at the beginning of the film, where he is trying to reign in his anger, fighting for control that he has lost so long ago.
And then Ross comes along, there is an awesome Hulk-out scene in the factory (Hulk grumbling “Leave me alone” in that scene is just heartbreaking), and then Bruce is back to square one. Alone in another country with nothing but what clothing survived the Hulk-out, and yet, he keeps going.
He keeps fighting.
Bruce Banner is such a strong character. Not Hulk–Bruce. He has overcome such great obstacles, and it is almost always in the name of helping others. He isolates himself to keep others safe. When he fails in his suicide attempt, instead of completely giving up, he turned his attentions of helping others.
He has given up so much, and time and time again, he always proves himself as a good man. He could just as easily turned his abilities toward a far more selfish goal like we see so many super-villains do in the comic-book world, and yet, he remains good.
He still struggles with the Hulk, but he has come to accept, in part, what he has become. There are so many others who would have given up. Hell, Bruce himself gave up. He tried to kill himself as a last resort, and when that failed, he moved on and focused on doing what he could to help others.
I could go on, but I think you get my meaning. Bruce Banner is one of the strongest characters I’ve ever known, and I love him for it.

Dash it all, Basil! The queen’s in danger. Olivia’s counting on us. We’re about to be horribly splattered, and all you can do is feel sorry for yourself. Well, I know you can save us. But if you’ve given up, then why don’t we set it off now and be done with it!
