(In Reference To My Post About Fat/feedism Kink)

@goruk says: Sorry but I don't understand how it's "liberating" to associate intentional weight gain with pig play, slob play, humiliation porn and basically emulating everything negatively associated with being fat in society. Humiliate yourself on your own time. You don't HAVE to celebrate a 50 lb weight gain by getting down on all fours and eating a cake off the floor. You can just gain weight without the piggy slob shit.

(In reference to my post about fat/feedism kink)

the comment above displays a complete lack of understanding of kink/fetish in general. to some people, yes, it's liberating to play into the "freak" stereotypes that society has placed upon them. the key thing you are missing here is consent: "liberation" comes from the person being humiliated ultimately having power over what happens to them. no one wants to be called fatphobic things outside of kink - but being in a safe space can make humiliation erotic for some. just like it's liberating for some women to play into submission and misogynistic tropes, but only in the bedroom. just like it's liberating for certain folks to recreate a traumatic scene, only this time they know they're safe and in control. much of kink is about power exchange, role reversal, exploring darker themes, rebelling, embracing the taboo. part of what makes kink so exciting is playing with fantasies that go against your own values. what you enjoy in the bedroom says nothing about who you are as a person. kink is so much more complex than that, and people do not get to pick and choose what works for them. you however, do get to pick and choose what kind of porn you watch.

so - for feedists, I would argue that pig or slob play can be liberating, with an attitude of "so, society thinks I'm a pig? I'll show them just how much of a pig I can be" and getting messy and incorporating that act of rebellion into a pleasurable practice. I think it can be empowering, maybe it's not always humiliating, even if you perceive it to be. of course it's not for everyone and it sure as hell isn't supposed to be! in fact, from what I've seen, this specific kink is a much smaller subsection of the feedism community. I personally dislike it too, but I am absolutely not going to shame anyone who does like it.

you were about to hit the nail on the head with "humiliate yourself on you own time" and still missed. that's... that's exactly what they're doing. that's exactly what kink is. regardless of how you've discovered that type of porn, I guarantee you, you were not the target audience. fat kinksters should not have to sanitize themselves for your comfort. yet again, this echoes 'no kink at pride' sentiment to me. you can just think 'ew' to yourself and move on.

I want you to interrogate what's going on here, beyond your emotional reaction. it's okay to not like something, but being disgusted by it doesn't make it inherently immoral. seriously, what's so wrong about eating a cake on all fours? this is happening behind closed doors between consenting individuals. who is that hurting? does it make you uncomfortable because that's something fat people aren't "supposed" to do? isn't that the point of it? isn't fat liberation about fat people having the autonomy to do what they want with their bodies? and lastly, what gives you the authority to police other people's sexualities?

once again, fat pleasure is fat liberation <3

Ways to Live in Direct Opposition to Capitalism

I am by no means an expert in any of these things I’m gonna talk about, so keep that in mind! I am just making a compilation of things I know of that we can do to lessen the stranglehold the capitalist lifestyle has on us while enriching our lives, our surroundings, and the lives of others. Please add anything I miss or correct anything I may be getting wrong! Anyway here goes!

Use what you have, fix what’s you can, make what you can, accept from others, thrift what you can, and finally purchase as a last resort.

This is advice I have seen float around here a couple of times that can apply to a lot of things including clothing, furniture, food, and more besides. It’s meant to be done roughly in that order as it applies to what you’re wanting/needing/doing. It’s about preventing waste, promoting self-capability, having a heightened reliance on your community, and consciously rejecting the ingrained habit many of us have to just purchase things or services.

Here’s where you can read about growing an indoor garden!

Here’s where you can read about sewing things yourself!

Here’s an online site for giving and receiving items for free!

Here is where you can find a local Mutual Aid to get things from, learn skills from, give do, volunteer for, etc. (in the U.S.)

Be politically active! (from a U.S. perspective)

Vote for every election. Know your representatives and those who will be competing in the next election. Vote without ignorance and without falling for unfounded claims. While operating within the system that actively oppresses us will not bring about the future we want, it can serve as damage control (preventing worse candidates from taking office) and it can potentially create a national atmosphere more open to change.

Here’s a good article about getting more involved in the U.S. political process.

Here’s a site that will show you how to register to vote, when and where elections are held, and more!

Here’s good advice on finding protests in your city!

Here’s some readings on unionizing! It’s your legal right to unionize!

Here’s a more user friendly site for learning about unions!

Be active within your community!

Developing strong, motivated, capable, knowledgeable, and inclusive communities is the ultimate way to combat the relentless and bleak present and future. When you’ve worked on the things above and have gotten good at it (or even if you haven’t gotten good at it yet), start spreading what you know and what you can do with others!

Give your neighbors, coworkers, and friends some of the vegetables you’ve grown.

Invite your community members to volunteer events.

Talk to folks about how to vote, when you’re doing it, etc.

Take part in Mutual Aids to teach what you’ve learned or whatever you may be an expert in! Invite neighbors, friends, and coworkers when you take part in the Mutual Aid!

Accept your community. Take them for who and what they are. Discrimination is the enemy of cooperation. You have much more in common with everyone in your community than a single billionaire or corporation. We’re all passengers on this spaceship earth.

Do it one step at a time!

Obviously we can’t do all of these things at once. Do what you can when you can, and you’ll start to notice real change in your life!

Our online communities where we talk about our visions and hopes are fantastic, but they have little impact if we don’t actually get up and do the real work that change requires.

Want to be better, and keep hope for the future!

Harbor and nourish that desire to be a better person and to be the change you want to see in the world. You need to be hungry for a better future if you plan to make it through the rough times when everything feels pointless and without hope. Reach out to others when you’re down, and be someone others can lean on when their lives get hard.

That’s it! Please interact with this, spread it to others, and add your own thoughts and ideas! It’s important that we do the real work to get the change we crave!

"i hate microlabels" yeah i also kind of dislike the idea of putting ourselves and our identities into very specific boxes, i think it can be really isolating- ohh wait you mean you think they're invalid. ohh no that's not the way to look at it. killing you

also the reason those “disabled for a day” activities are stupid is that they can never truly capture any real disabled experience, they just make abled people THINK they know what disability is about

cool, you’ve gotten a group of uni students to use a wheelchair for a day. great, they now have an idea of how steep the slopes are and how many stairs there are. but do they know about the pain? the ableism? trying to navigate the healthcare system? trying to navigate any system for that matter?

they don’t. because they can’t really know. all you’ve done is made them think they understand the wheelchair-user experience, and therefore probably made them more confident than they should be

it’s infinitely more useful to give them the accessibility guidelines. get them walking around and measuring shit. have them talk to real disabled people until they start to believe us. I don’t know. just DON’T stick them in a wheelchair for a couple hours and let them believe they understand when they DO NOT
