i think it would be so cool if groverās wedding dress in s2 was traditional indian attire. also gives more reasons for him to delay the wedding like āohhh no mr. cyclops you see, iāve always wanted an indian wedding, and i think if you didnāt it would really offend meā and the cyclops asks what that wedding would consist of and groverās like āoh lots and lots of things. lots of jewelry and a super heavy lehenga. it might take a while for everything to be planned, honestly.ā and of course the cyclops somehow gets all that done and grover panics. and then day of the wedding comes and because heās still trying to delay it so that percy can come hes taking hours to get ready because āall this jewelry is super heavy. and my lehenga is very heavy. itās just taking a while to walk to you because everything is so, uh, heavy.ā
Lester Papadopoulos is a comfort character to me. Iāve been a huge Percy Jackson fan for years now, and Iāve loved many characters (Grover, Nico, Leo, Percy, etc) and when I first read TOA I loved it, but after rereading itā¦
I fell in love with Lester, this caring and complex character who had many layers to him, that came off as selfish, and yet just so happened to be one of the most selfless characters in the book.
Heās caring, heās a former god, heās selfless, he pees himself regularly, he loves his children, he drowned his ex that one time, he is a god of many things, he has had many lovers. He has so many aspects to him that makes him so interesting.
He has a redemption arc as he realizes that he has made mistakes, but also realizes that he has been abused by Zeus, that it most likely influenced how he view things, and how he may have picked up toxic behaviors from Zeus. He learns to be more human, which is such a beautiful arc to see him go through.
He cares SO MUCH about others. He grieves for Jason and Crest and Heloise and so many other people. He tried to sacrifice himself many times and has many heroic qualities, but he is an unreliable narrator and sometimes what he says doesnāt reflect what he does.
His and Megās relationship is one of my favorite friendships in the books. It feels like itās the two of them against the world at times. Meg cares so much for him while also calling him out on his bad actions (like when they were on Sutro Tower) and Lester cares so much for her as he realizes that she has been abused, that she needs help, and that he wants to help her separate from Neroās influence, that he is so proud of her for standing up to Nero. They both form such a strong bond with each other and I just- I love them!
He is also absolutely hilarious. I find myself laughing as he is just- so snarky sometimes? He also sometimes know random things? (Like the Goddess of Sewers Cloacina) He is also funny when he has no knowledge on how human things work (like not knowing the price of Tater Totās)
He also gets anxious and freaks out and cries and he just feels. He gets happy and laughs and gets sad and laments. He gets flashbacks and clearly has trauma but doesnāt let that excuse his bad actions as he feels guilt for his actions. He can also be quite harsh on himself, blaming himself often and sometimes projecting that onto others (like him saying that Piper is blaming him for Crestās death??) He is such an emotional character and I love him for that.
I love whenever he gets his godly strength as it starts with small things and then it gets to the point that he can create fire with his hands just by simply mentioning cauterizing a wound and breaking Neroās fasces and having enough strength to drag Python into the Underworld and is strong enough to hold on just enough to save himself from falling into Tartarus. He is such a strong person who has an incredible pain tolerance.
There are many other things that I love about Lester Papadopoulos/Apollo. I think I can positively say that he is my favorite PJO character. I often reread TOA more than the other books. I love the story and how dark it can get while also exploring the themes of how abuse affects you.
I just- I love Meg and Apollo. I need for fanfic of them!! I need more content of them! Their friendship is so underrated, so when I see people make fanfic of them I get so happy!
I also love the community. The fan-artists and the fanfic makers and anyone who just writes long posts, like me, are so talented and is honestly the best fandom Iāve been in.
I hope the PJO show becomes popular so that more people can read these amazing series. I hope there will be a day that TOA gets adapted, and even if it doesnāt, I still have the audiobooks to go back to.
Thanks TOA fandom, for still going strong, even years after the books ended and new books have come out and are still making fanfic about them. It feels like the books have never ended, like the TOA books are still going on and are still making posts.
Iām so happy to be part of such a passionate fanbase.
Anyways if anyone is willing to offer any good fanfics then let me know!
this! this is why percy and jason are foils for each other! they arenāt meant to be compared and measured up against each other, but theyāre basically two sides of the same coin, so to speak.
perceus means ādestroyerā and jason means āto healā
jason was named such to appease the gods, and percy was named as such to defy the fates and give him hope for a happy ending in spite of what the gods may throw at him.
jason is malicious compliance, and percy is outright defiant to the system. jason has been part of the system forever and seeks to fix it from the inside, while percy is an outsider to the system and seeks to fix it outright, through full front opposition.
neither is wrong, itās just that they reflect each other
it makes me wonder what json wouldāve been like had he not been raised in a military setting from the age of 2

this is my favorite Jason moment of all time. We donāt often see a lot of his character in the books other than subtle undertones and this gives us a direct look inside his mind. Imagine youāre a demigod in New Rome, and everyoneās been hyping up this Jason guy. Jason Grace, the son of Jupiter and praetor of New Rome, the guy who makes and enforces the law, changed the way of living for all roman demigods. A leader and role model for all And then when you finally meet him heās like āI chafe under the rules šā
Octavianās treatment is one of my least favorite things about HoO because it isnāt his character, itās his lack of one.
We COULDāVE had an excellent character who was a look into what could truly go wrong with blind devotion like Octavianās, drawing an excellent parallel to Lukeās blind hatred in the original series (Percy even says Octavian reminds him of Luke).
We COULDāVE had a fantastic contrast into a followerās descent into insanity after making empty promises of power whilst under the influence of a massively elder being, thus leading to said followerās death.
What makes me especially mad is that Octavian has no backstory. This is a problem with a lot of Roman characters, but Octavian especially. He doesnāt even have a last name. All we know is:
- Heās a legacy of Apollo.
- He used to be sane and probably very charismatic, due to Reyna stating she used to have a crush on him in TTT.
Thatās it! One of Rickās gold stars is that his human characters are just that: human. They have motivations and flaws, deeply personal origins and ideals that affect their actions and their outcomes. None of the villains are just plain villains, evil by birth. They have motives to back up their actions (now weither those motives make sense or not, thatās another story, but theyāre still there.) Thereās Luke, Medea, Lityerses (who is an entire other can of worms), Circe, Loki, Gunilla, Randolph, hell, even Kronos and Gaea. All of them have reasons for the shitty stuff they did. Octavian is a glaring exception. We know heās power-hungry, but we donāt know why. We know heās violent, but we donāt know why. We know he hates the Greeks, but we donāt know why. You may argue āoh, heās a minor character, he doesnāt really get a reasoningā which is just blatantly untrue on both fronts.
1: Octavian is NOT a minor character in the slightest. He has major roles in the plot throughout the books.
2: Him being a āminorā villain wouldnāt have anything to do with his motivation. Chris from the OG series has stated motivation, and heās way more minor than Octavian.
Another thing is that Octavianās insanity is played off almost comically. Heās relatively well put together in SoN, only being super dramatic and reportedly blackmailing Hazel and probably other legionnaires, but by BoO heās absolutely broken. Heās utterly obsessed with being a hero to the Romans, with being Pontifex Maximus, with killing Gaea and almost proving himself to Apollo (who is utterly disgusted by him), but itās all either framed as āhate this guy more plsplsplsā or brushed away to the side.
Iām torn on his death scene, because itās a good scene overall but too much of it is humorous in my opinion. Between Will calling Octavian an āanemic loserā (which like. what.) and Leo describing his screams as a little girlās, it seems almost too light for such a pivotal point in the story. Octavian has truly lost himself to madness, ranting and raving and insisting no, HE has to be the one to kill Gaea, HE has to be a hero.
His death is horrific, yet itās framed as a silly oopsie.
What the fuck.
Overall, Octavian is a shining example of missed character potential. We could have gotten the Riordan special and made to empathize more with our villain, like what happened with Luke or Randolph from MCGA, but all we get is a crazy blond kid, character so shallow he could count as a tide pool. It infuriates me to no end how in a sea of good, properly motivated antagonists, Octavian is the outlier.
Itās a real shame.
