writing fanfiction is just. i’m being so creative and original. i’m plagiarizing everyone by accident. i’m a genius. i’m cringe. i’m too angsty. i’m too cheesy. this is not in character. it doesn’t matter that it’s not in character because these are my characters now. i love my hobby. this is the worst possible use of my time. i’m seeking validation. i’m projecting my own personal problems onto this story and i’m barely hiding it. i know so many words and i’m using all of them wrong. im on tumblr posting about it instead of writing it.

tbona finally arrived in my country, in my language, and i did a very useful re-reading 🄹 i have a few points to highlight!

ā„ evangeline is a seventeen-year-old girl who has nothing in her life. she has no friends, relatives or family. she is alone. she is a deeply lonely character. in this book, what she clings to is a chance to be happy with apollo. that, to me, fully justifies her ā€œattachmentā€ to him.Ā everyone judges her a lot for fighting for apollo, but she herself says that she just doesn’t want to be alone in the world. she wants to be loved and she wants to give love, and that’s not a flaw. in fact, it’s a very human and real motivation.

ā„ for me jacks is a difficult character to crack and i mean that as a compliment. it makes him very interesting to me. i feel as naive as evangeline when i say that he is more than he says he is, because his actions always shows more. there are all these hints throughout the book that point out who he once was, who he tried to be and failed, and how he constantly seems to be fighting a battle with himself. i don’t know if my vision is partial, but all i can think about is that he tries to keep eva away from him and fails.

ā„ which brings me to another point: he is much more aware of the situation between them than she is.Ā to illustrate, we have the scene of lala’s party. evangeline feels crazy jealous of jacks and blames the stones and, in addition, also uses the stones to justify the jealousy he felt. meanwhile, jacks tells her that the situation between them is not going to work out. he’s aware of where the two of them are heading (dare i say since ouabh.)Ā she tries to convince herself that there’s nothing going on there, but he knows. he knows what he’s feeling and he knows he can’t get carried away by it.

ā„Ā  which, again, reminds me of another point! from the beginning of the book, in the first few chapters, he acts affectionately. he has a genuine interest in keeping evangeline not just alive but well. he doesn’t want to put her at risk, he doesn’t want her to get hurt. (interestingly, he’s such an asshole to everyone else that even his friends can’t believe he has this genuine interest in taking care of her. and he really does. despite that, chaos is aware, also since ouabh, how much jacks cares. he talks, on more than one occasion, about how evangeline affects jacks and could be the death of him.) we know he needs to keep her alive, but he doesn’t just do that. he worries. he gets to be affectionate, he helps with luc, with marisol, he gets irritated when he learns that she has been cursed, he gets offended when evangeline suspects him, he’s jealous of apollo.Ā he just can’t help it, and we have this whole interesting construct of him trying to keep her at a distance but by the time they get to the hollow, he just doesn’t want to let her go anymore. he gives in to what he wanted all the time. he seems uncertain when he tells her that she’ll forget everything, and was very close to becoming the next petra and his addiction would be evangeline.Ā for evangeline is what he really wants but cannot have.

ā„ i have a few thoughts on the valor family, aurora, lysander and jacks himself, but this post might get too long. šŸ‘€

i just love jacks as a character, i think his story with evangeline is very well built and it makes perfect sense in my head. only smart people understand the depth of it 😌

the feminine urge to mourn lost cultures and empires. for your heart to ache every time you remember how many languages no longer have speakers, how many ruins are abandoned, how many people lived happy lives before you. to feel melancholy and longing every time you study history - of this world or another, even fictional. to want to play a role in history, but in the same time fear dying, passing, being forgotten like those thousands before you.

Rewatching the interrogation of Visser in season 1, since @illictheartsĀ pointed out Zoya knew about Zlatan’s plot to kill Alina and:

Yes, indeed, she was present to everything but Visser’s execution.

Why didn’t she say anything to Alina? She had enough time to share her plans for future, hug Alina and act like her new bestie, but I guess mentioning they’ve just killed the guy, who stopped opening of third frontline and got rid of people, who wanted the Great Sankta dead just didn’t make it on her agenda.

What is one aunt’s life worth? Continuation of two lives-long wars, destruction of the only safe place for hunted minority and murder of the sole, relatively powerful person, who cares about any of it.

Speaking of which, tracking Alina took some time. Zoya has officer’s training, she should know Novokribirsk isn’t safe anymore. Why didn’t she send a letter home? Yes, it could be intercepted or censored, but her aunt lives in dangerous place. They could have some sort of code by then. Hell, having relatives in one of centres of separatist efforts’s dumb af at least.

We can clearly see Zoya will make an amazing Queen. Selfless, willing to face hard choices…

Why aren’t there any gifs of Ivan from this part? He’s hilarious to watch!

I’d pay real money to watch comedic duo of The Black General and His Loyal Henchman.

I won’t even start about the Crows also knowing all about Zlatan. They’re slave traders in the show. If they’d say anything, Alina might realize what they wanted her for. Better not risk it.
