Lydia: Why My Hand Shaky?
Lydia: Why my hand shaky?
Betelgeuse: Your skeleton is ready to hatch.
Lydia: That is so ominous thank you.

Varian and Mental Illness Part 2
Suicidal threats or behavior or self-injury, often in response to fear of separation or rejection ❌
Okay, so this one WE ARE NOT GOING TO GET. And honestly rightfully so because it is a Disney channel show and he’s a 14 year old boy.

Wide mood swings lasting from a few hours to a few days, which can include intense happiness, irritability, shame or anxiety ✅
I mean, a perfect example of this is in “The Alchemist Returns” where it almost seems like he’s having fun on his adventure with Rapunzel. Like he enjoys her company. And in all honesty, I think that’s genuine.
But then he has his mood swing when they finally see the flower. He rashly decides that he needs more than one petal. Even when when Rapunzel calls him out on it, at first he’s trying to brush it off but then when she realizes he had the mood potion he suddenly goes into full-villain mode.

Ongoing feelings of emptiness ❌
To be fair, no real examples here. But not like you can’t imagine it in your head. But of course that’s not enough.

Inappropriate, intense anger, such as frequently losing your temper, being sarcastic or bitter, or having physical fights ✅
Okay, several moments of this. When he snaps at Rapunzel after taking the flower, and he snaps twice during the Battle of Old Corona.
~

Now admittedly, Varian is young and teenagers do tend to have impulsive decisions. However, not to the extent that Varian had. And tbf, this is more head cannon than anything else. But it’s head cannon that makes sense.
Also, I’m mostly trying to say that THERE IS HOPE FOR VARIAN. Not only that but he can still be a valuable ally. And honestly I think the old Varian is more in there than allot of us believe.
But I’m mostly asking because I’m thinking of adding this as a Plot Point in my fan fiction “Corona Prison Break”. I mean, I understand that this disorder wasn’t known about in that time. But the show tends to take allot of liberties in departments like that. (Like having a yo-yo and lemonade for instance.)
What do you all think?

Klaus, six feet away from Allison: *screaming* HELLO FROM THE OTHER SIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDE
Allison, six feet away from Klaus: *belting* I MUST HAVE zoom CALLED A THOUSAND TIIIIIIIIIIIIMES
Vanya, six feet away from both of them: Guys, you do know we’re in a public park right now, right?
Varian and Mental Illness Part 1
I’ve seen some thoughts of what Varian deserves as a punishment for the end of season one. How does such a sweat kid go from being kind to being a dangerous criminal. And what should his sentence be.
Now I don’t know the extent of Coronan Law but I’d like to see Varian get a somewhat light punishment. I think Varian should plead Insanity. Because honestly I think I can tell what’s up with him.
My belief is that Varian has Borderline Personality Disorder. And I fully believe if given the correct help he could go back to who he used to be.
Here are some symptoms of Borderline Personality Disorder. Not all of which apply to Varian but not everyone with BPD has them.

Tends to see the World in Black and White ✅
Varian tends to look at things in his life either positively or negatively. For him there really isn’t anything that’s in between. If a friend breaks a promise, that person was never a friend to begin with and they were just using him. There’s that part of him that does view Rapunzel as the bad guy in the story. He doesn’t seem to realize the nuances to the whole situation.

An intense fear of abandonment. Even going to extreme measures to avoid real or imagined separation or rejection ✅
Now not all of this one is necessarily shown in the show. But you can’t deny that Varian does have abandonment issues. I mean HE WAS LITERALLY ABANDONED.

A pattern of unstable intense relationships, such as idealizing someone one moment and then suddenly believing the person doesn’t care enough or is cruel ✅
Idolizing someone and then believing that they’re cruel and don’t care? Rapunzel, Eugene, and Cass all fall under this. He looked up to Eugene as his hero, Rapunzel is the Princess and arguably his first friend, and he does for a while have a crush on Cassandra. That’s definitely idolizing them. But what does he think of all three by the end. I mean based off the fact he tries to kill two of them, he must not view them very highly.

Rapid changes in self-identity and self-image that include shifting goals and values, and seeing yourself as bad or as if you don’t exist at all ✅
Varian throughout the story has varying shifting opinions of himself. It’s not so obvious but at one moment he does say he’s the bad guy, and another moment he states that he’s doing what is right.

Periods of stress-related paranoia and loss of contact with reality, lasting from a few minutes to a few hours ❌
Can’t say this one is actually a thing as much. Though I was surprised I couldn’t find examples of stress related paranoia or loss of contact with reality.

Impulsive and risky behavior, such as gambling, reckless driving, unsafe sex, spending sprees, binge eating or drug abuse, or sabotaging success by suddenly quitting a good job or ending a positive relationship ✅
None of what was listed apply to Varian with the exception of ending positive relationships. But impulsive and risky behavior, let’s see if we can list some.
Building five machines underneath his town that may cause earthquakes (good intentions but still), going out into the roughest snowstorm in Coronan history, kind of poisoning royal guards and workers (not lethally but still), committing treason, stealing precious artifact, kidnapping queen, making huge monster out of raccoon, trying to murder his past friend’s.

To be continued in part 2
Lydia: Friendly reminder that planet earth is a dense molten core encased in a layer of solids and therefore is, technically speaking, a ravioli.
Charles: I’m literally begging you to stop
Lydia: I just discovered a neat trick! If you make brownies but don’t cut them, you can eat the whole slab and say you only ate one brownie.
*later*
Lydia: *collapsing on the floor and groaning* Do not do this.
