I sat with a crying second grader today. (The age range is outside my wheelhouse but I was the most convenient adult.) He was crying, the other adults said, because his brother took a phone he was playing on. “Phone addicted,” everybody said. “If he would get up and play games with the other kids he wouldn’t be crying.”

He told me everyone lets his brother take things from him because his brother is younger, and doesn’t know better. He told me he doesn’t want to play because he’s tired, he has too many extracurriculars this summer and can’t get good sleep because “everyone in my camper is so loud when I’m trying to sleep.” He’s exhausted and only eight. His mom’s an acquaintance and told me she and the kid’s father are going through a separation — mom and four kids left the house to stay in a camper.

But people will seriously not listen to kids crying over seemingly minor things because on the surface it looks like a tantrum. If kids are given the space to articulate themselves they often will.

omggg yess i've wanted to talk about this for so long

i have talked about this in this post but i wanna elaborate

rootcrafting is technically a healing magic yk so i don't think it can be used as offense until bree masters her abilities to wield her powers separately and together depending on the situations, which given her limited time slot and now the "nothing to lose everything to gain" predicament she's in, i think she'll figure this out quicker. with zoelle and eljiah on her trail, literally, she will have to control her powers with mortal threat and even though the shadow king will obviously not let her die there's no promise he'd keep her safe. so all lies on her to control her powers and kill him.

she has cut ties with arthur and her ancestors, so i believe she's gonna have a better control on her aether construct and her bloodcrafting magic, which means she will be depleted a bit more (the gray strand of hair hasn't gone unnoticed on the cover yall) so i think she will have to figure out the "healing with defending" thing because it can be hella useful. it can also help in accelerating william's powers in hours he's not with gawain's strength but yeah possibilities are there.

also we've seen rootcrafting can reverse mesmers, so if and when bree meets/finds nick's mother because there's no way she isn't introduced now, i think her memories will be returned and i also think she is a bit more vital to the whole thing because what if anna knew davis's ulterior motives?? his insistence on training nick so hard, his obsession with arthur, it is possible that she also looked through the documents or maybe she knew natasia and maybe joined the dots a bit which is why she wanted to take nick away from this, but yk she failed to. maybe the mesmer did take place drastically but when she regains her memories, because i hope she does, she might have a hard time coping up because alice only regained like two weeks of her memories right?? anna will have 7-8 years of memories of her son, so either bree is gonna fix it with her magic or anna will need time by herself but yeah i think she will regain her memories.
