"i'm Sure You're Capable Of More Than You Think." He Countered, Plainly, As He Turned His Attention Back

"i'm sure you're capable of more than you think." he countered, plainly, as he turned his attention back to the bows for a moment; idly switching between the different styles the man had shown him, testing their weights in his hand again, only to settle for the same one again. holding onto it this time, rather than putting it back, he turned to face the other but instead of ending things there and cutting his night short, instead of saying i'll take this one, he found himself falling back into their conversation. "your thing is different?" he questioned with genuine curiosity. "what, exactly, is your thing then? should i be worried?" if he was more social he might have smiled, or he might have let his tone take on a playful edge, but that wasn't what alton was none for. "i was wondering if that was actually your name." he commented with pursed lips and a tired nod of his head. oh, right. he wasn't wearing a name tag like the other was. "alton."

"Yes, I would say I can take care of myself, at least in a one-on-one fight" River reflected and scratched his beard "but I don't know if I would come out in one piece if I had to deal with a whole gang" he admitted with a smile and a awkward laugh that made his shoulders shake. This was the time when customers said whether or not they would take the product and then leave, but River wasn't complaining, he would hate to be alone in the store again and have to settle for a simple "well... I would say no, I don't know how to fight, my thing is different" he shrugged "by the way, I'm River" he said pointing to his badge.

"in all honesty? i was thinking of taking a more peaceful approach to life here. in the long run i want to give my younger brother," the only remaining member of his family he cared for, "a way out if he wanted one." and a way out for himself. he had grown tired of his families desperate clinging to the fear and power they wielded but as he sat there and really thought about it-- was he tired of living in a world where fear and power struggles dominated every action and thought or was he tired of the way his family operated simply because he had to clean up their messes; was he tired of playing by their rules and not actually having the respect he deserved? it almost felt like a ghost creeping along his features as his lips curled into a more devious smirk; making him look more like the hellion he was in his youth rather than who he was pretending to be since leaving home. "new haven is already drowning, it could be fun to hold their heads underwater and give them a real reason to fear..."

"i've met a few that don't seem like they would take kindly to being called sheep," he commented with a subtle lick of his lips, "but i've met even more that don't seem like they'd even question it. i already have a favorite, or two, because of how compliant they are." the fact he was falling so easily back into his old ways wasn't something he could blame on kai. the other wasn't compelling him, or twisting his arm. no. all it took was a simple smile and mention of fun for elgin to slip. this was what he was. a monster hiding behind a kind smile and designer clothes. he was a fool for ever thinking he could be anything else. "i've been hiding," he answered plainly with a slight shrug of his shoulders as he let his hand be moved higher up on the other's thigh as they spoke, "but i'm starting to get tired of it. maybe i'm the lucky one tonight."
humming under his breath as he felt the other's hands on him, keeping him close, elgin gave into the moment and enjoyed being close to the other; he enjoyed the banter and the foreplay as he genuinely considered letting the facade he'd created for himself go and just accepting, instead, that he wasn't meant for a more peaceful, quiet life. honestly, a town like this would have been easier to run than a bustling city. there were so many ways they could convince and control people.
feeling the other's tongue against his ear had the omega smirking again, his mouth hanging open a bit to show his fangs as he leaned into the touch. "i'm not doing myself any favors tonight if you have to wonder if i'm better than the rest of them," he finally spoke up again as he leaned forward, his lips ghosting against the alpha's. "i thought i, at least, made that much obvious." closing off the last centimeter of distance between them, the omega pressed their lips together as his hand found it's way to cup over the alpha's groin. massaging his hand against him, elgin teasingly bit down on the other's bottom lip and pulled back on it before letting his attention trail away. his lips found their way to kai's chin, tracing down the side of his jaw, to his throat; making it clear, as his hand continued to grope and massage against the alpha, that he was working his way down to his prize.
Kai grinned upon hearing of the other man's history. How interesting; so there really were more like him out there. The alpha vampire hummed in delight, only taking another swig from his bottle. "And what about now? If this is your new home, how do you feel about using fear and control in this realm? It shouldn't be a problem to let your family name be synonymous with blood here either. With the amount of fear people already have over things they don't know, imagine how much more fun it will be when they fear things that they do know." Kai slid a bit closer to Elgin in the booth, letting his knee brush up against the other's.
"The sheep here are sweet to taste. Simple, easy-minded. Not very filling unless you have lots. But they're also much more fun to play with; even more so eager to follow your every beck and call. And that makes them all the more tastier and that much more filling." Kai's brows raised a bit as Elgin closed the gap between them, feeling the other's hand resting on his thigh. "Is that so? Is tonight my lucky night then? Where has someone as perfect as you been hiding this entire time?" he purred, reaching down to guide the other vampire's hand further up his thigh.
Shifting his body so that he was facing the other man a bit more directly, Kai let his own hands snake around the backside to hold Elgin closer to him. It wasn't obvious from his grip, but Kai wasn't intending for the other man to slip away from his grasp now. Not after the words that they'd been exchanging. "I think you're here to start making some messes of your own then. Tonight's certainly a fine night to start," he mused. "Here, you can live as freely as you want. Forget all the rules and etiquettes and act the way you've always desired. And if anyone complains about it, then we can always convince them otherwisee," the alpha vampire finished, letting his words trail off into a soft whisper as he leaned in close to Elgin's ear. Of course, convincing could mean all sorts of things, but Kai wasn't one to dive into all the specifics.
Kai let his tongue slip out, licking at the other man's earlobe, before using the sharper ends of his teeth to nip and lightly bite at the skin there. "Plenty try to keep up, but I haven't found anyone that can last. It's such a shame too, because all those pretty omegas didn't have the heart or the stomach to indulge in our desires together." He paused, one hand sliding down to settle around the other vampire's waist and squeezing him gently there. "And now I'm wondering if this pretty omega here is better than the rest of them." Kai's lips had moved away from Elgin's ear, trailing a soft line of kisses and pecks along his jawline untiil they were hovering just in front of the other's lips. "Care to prove me right?"

biography
despite not being of this realm, he had been in new haven his whole life, it was the only home he really knew. he was a fairy but all he knew of his past, of his birth, was that his biological parents left the fair realm and brought him to the human world. he didn't know their reasoning, he didn't even know their names, all he knew was they were here for a month or two before they were able to use a human agency to find a family that would take him.
as far as he was concerned the jennings were his true parents; his only parents. according to the stories they used to tell him when he was younger, they wanted him so badly they left the safety of new haven's barrier behind just so they could meet him; just so they could bring him home.
it was a bit strange being so different, even in a community of supernaturals. part of him always felt as if he didn't belong. he was a fairy that had no real connection to the fair realm and he wasn't the same as his parents-- but as he aged he managed to look past all of that and settle to be content with the life he had. he was comfortable in new haven. he was wanted. his parent's were proud to call him theirs. for now at least.
rather than dwelling in that feeling of disconnect with the world around him, cornelius used it to his advantage. he spent most of his day working in group homes with those that had been displaced by time; helping them settle into their new lives here, learn english, and how to adjust to things being so different from what they had always none. if he wasn't helping them, he was helping anyone else in new haven that needed it. bringing the older members of the community their groceries, picking up shifts here or there for people that needed help in their businesses, working with the town to keep it clean. he was always putting other's wellbeing before his own. it was a bit cliche for an omega but he did still have a back bone. there were plenty of alpha's he'd butted heads with over the years. cornelius was no push over; he wasn't going to swallow his pride and accept the archaic idea that gender equaled superiority. everyone was equal.
at least, they were supposed to be.
he didn't realize just how jaded the world could be towards omega's, though, until he found himself in a bit of trouble. it was, at most, a one night stand. it wasn't supposed to mean anything between them-- cornelius wasn't even sure he remembered the alpha's name-- but one night of pleasure, taking some arrogant alpha's knot, left him pregnant.
he will never forget the look on his parents faces when he told them.
they went from treating him as if he was their pride and joy, their world, to being their greatest disappointment. they didn't want to speak to him, they didn't want people to know their son was some worthless harlot having a child without being mated-- out of wedlock-- so they refused to tell anyone. it was their dirty secret and shame to keep. when cornelius started to show they were quick to make him leave; forcing him outside of new haven's barrier, into a world he wasn't really familiar with, to hide among the humans; to hide away from the people of new haven so that they wouldn't have to know what he'd done.
eventually, as they made him stay away for longer stretches of time, his parent's finally made their intentions clear. if he wanted to come back to new haven, once his child was born he had to give it up. he had to leave it behind. he had to give up his son.
holding him in his arms, and getting to name him caomhán, all before letting the workers of the agency he was working with whisk his baby away broke his heart. it was an accident. he didn't mean to get pregnant. but once he saw his son's face he knew that he wanted him; he knew that he wanted to be a parent... but he was scared. he wanted to come back home. he--
he didn't know what he wanted.
he panicked.
eventually he did return to new haven, without his child as per his families request, and he never left again. those that knew him can tell that since his time away, which he refuses to talk about, he hasn't been the same-- not entirely-- but he's doing his best to get by; to get back into his old way of life, helping others and making them his focus rather than himself.
he's doing his best to ignore how empty he feels, knowing that his son is out there. knowing that he left him out there.
knowing that he wanted him back.

claws and fangs out, hands gripping at his collar as he was pinned back against the wall, the vampire couldn't really complain about the other's reaction. he was in a place he didn't belong and everyone was already tense. "that is hardly a fair question, you could argue i'm two of the three-- or at least i have been at some points in my life," he teased with a loose smile and a soft, but forced chuckle. because making a joke was definitely the way to smooth things over.
"right now i'd wager that i'm just an unlucky idiot," he offered up as he purposefully pulled his lips back to reveal his fangs in an awkward, open mouthed smile. "i had a few things to attend too while the damned sun was still out and, somehow, i wound up being public enemy number one to a rather persistent flock of birds. they ruined my protection, so, to stop myself from burning to a crisp on the streets i made my way here. lovely place, by the way. very welcoming." he explained, his tone dripping in a playful sarcasm as he reached up to lightly pat the other man on his right shoulder.
"that explains why i'm here? what about you? what were the choices again? thief, cannibal, or pervert? i know which one i'm hoping for," he teased, making a joke. again.

Cyrus wasn't usually the person assigned to deal with the corpses waiting to be buried, he just picked them up when they were ready and transported them from the funeral home to the wake, from the wake to the cemetery. but this time they sent him to the cold morgue to inspect the bodies, not that he understood that, but it didn't seem to be that difficult to just mark an x in the boxes on his clipboard. except he found a living person in a place that should only be for the dead, instinctively he dropped the clipboard and put his claws and fangs out "what the hell are you doing here" he lunged towards the other male and pinned him against the stops cold, holding him by the collar "what are you, thief, cannibal or pervert?" depending on the answer he was ready to live up to the establishment's slogan 'funeral house serene alloy: your death is our joy'

"hey, whoa, easy blondie. it wasn't me." his hands shot up at his sides to show that he was innocent as he turned to face the other. "i would never call someone else breedable, and i hate getting called that myself," well, it might have depended on who it was but that was beside the point. "plus i don't have a, well, you know what, never mind-- just-- did someone yell that at you in passing or is there some kind of context i'm missing here?"

"Whoever called me fucking breedable better get ready to have their dick bitten off."

"well i don't think you look scary, and neither does he," the elf spoke in defense of the horse with a soft smile, "and that's what's important, i think." he wasn't blind to how large and imposing the other was in his stature and build. alton honestly wasn't sure he'd ever met someone as tall as the other, in this world or back in the wild lands, but he also knew that appearances could be deceiving. "whoever said you looked scary to them must not have been paying much attention. you can't help that though," he offered in an attempt to comfort the larger man as he saw the way his features seemed to sadden at the admission. "some can't seem to help being wrong."
watching as the horse began to graze from the other's hand, the elf seemed to relax more and more. you could even argue that he was enjoying the conversation, though he wasn't likely to admit it.
"we had... horses," he pauses, his lips breaking into a smirk as he remembers the animals back home, "but most of what you would find in elhead forest was touched by magic, and part of the fae. things were different there. our horses make the ones in this world seem like child's play; we called it the wild lands for a reason-- but, yes, i grew up around them. my family was from a settlement that preferred being closer to the natural world that that of others and, well, i think it's safe to say i still hold onto that way of thought sometimes; most times."
as he explained more about himself, answering honestly and speaking more than he had in months, his demeanor continued to change and soften. he was genuinely smiling. "one year my-- my friend i made here in this world bought me a horse as an anniversary gift of the day we met. we couldn't keep it where we lived, but the ranch was only a twenty minute drive away. i don't know. there's something about these animals that i like the most. so many people think they are scary because of their size, and how powerful they are, but they are gentle beasts. kind and intelligent too. they make for some good company..."

Nodding carefully at the other's response, Aiden couldn't help but feel a bit guilty as to not knowing where he was supposed to be. Part of him wondered if there was something else he should have done or asked in order to prevent him from ending up at this point, but the dragonblood decided not to dwell too much on that point. It helped to hear the other man try and put his concerns at ease, knowing that it wasn't his fault for the animal getting spooked. The baker didn't know anything when it came to these creatures, figuring that his size was probably what many would consider a threat.
He nodded with more enthusiasm at the explanation. "I promise I'm gentle, although I know a couple people who have said I look scary," Aiden said with a rather saddened expression on his face. He didn't want to scare people off; in fact the dragonblood took great pride in being friendly and welcoming, a skill he had to learn with his store. In any case, it seemed like the stranger knew much more about animals than he did, so it was better to take his word for it than come up with an infinite number of reasons as to what Aiden did wrong.
Holding one hand up to his ears, the large man was a bit too late to block out the sharp, clear whistle. He winced at the sudden sound, only watching with child-like glee as the large creature returned with a gentle trot. Aiden watched in surprise as the horse's attention slowly towards him, in particular towards his hand containing the snacks. "H-Here buddy... it's all yours," Aiden murmured, holding his hand out carefully with his palms open so as to not startle the horse away again. "You know so much about horses; did you grow up with them? I've never really interacted with them before until today," he whispered, half-expecting the horse to kick him in the chest and dart away.
