So, I was looking through your Babey Overlords AU art. and was curious what role Winter has taken? P.S. Also wanted to know what happens to Penny and Whitley during the AU.

Winter takes the place of Whitley in canon. She is completely and utterly devoted to Weiss and her well-being, and, unfortunately, Weiss’ enabler when it comes to the ‘Queen’ of the SDC’s more harmful behaviour, remaining quiet and docile. She acts as Weiss’ secretary, handling any and all business matters. Weiss’ new ‘business associates’ worry her, though.

Whitley and Penny are partners. General Robyn Hill assigns Whitley to Penny to ensure Doctor Polendina’s newest weapon serves its purpose as ‘Protector of Atlas’. However, Whitley quickly notices ‘glitches’ in the android’s program, when it stares at something like a flower or a brightly coloured object for too long, or it asks an unnecessary enquiry that seems almost frivolous. 

It doesn’t take too long for Whitley to notice that ‘it’ seems to be developing a consciousness. And Whitley can’t help but indulge her -- Penny, the girl. 

The android designated as Penny Polendina is caught between purpose and ‘distraction’. It has a purpose, it doesn’t need to hyper analyse a simple daisy, it doesn’t need new dresses, it doesn’t need the gifts that Specialist Schnee gives, and it ... It can’t be developing feelings ... right?

More than that, Penny begins to question the way things are. Why is Atlas undermining Mantle, an invaluable resource? Is this truly the way things should be run in Atlas? If Penny is the ‘Protector of Mantle’, why are most of her missions serve only the interests of Atlas?

Whitley, however, has to convince himself that General Hill is right in all she does. The woman who did so much, let the military serve as his second family, was surely justified in everything she did. She had to be. 

Whitley buys time for Penny as the powers of the Winter Maiden are transferred over to her, and pays dearly for it, for when Penny steps out of the pod, Whitley is on his knees, bleeding heavily and his sword broken in two. After Ruby is ‘temporarily’ defeated, they both knew how Penny’s newfound would be used for the selfishness of Atlas. With Whitley too gravely injured for Penny to carry away without him dying through the escape, he stayed behind to buy her time as she ran away with Cinder’s crew. 

Maybe one day, when Penny knows she is as a person, when Whitley knows what path he should take, they’ll meet again one day.
