He was completely silent, for once.

As you sobbed into his chest, the merman remained completely still. The hand that rested on your head appeared to be the only reminder that he was still functioning.

“I’m a wreck,” you breathed out through shaky and pitchy syllables. You didn’t dare to look at him, in case the look on his face wasn’t pleasant. You’d rather be oblivious to any boredom he may face during your session of weakness.

He was silent for a while though. So long that if you weren’t sitting up on his bed, you’d think he had fallen asleep.

After a bit, you decided to take that risk of being faced with distaste. Looking up at him though, you saw something else.

He looked defeated. Like he was to blame for something.

“I wanna help.” When he looked into your eyes, his arms wrapped around you in order to pull you close. “So, how can I help my Fishy?”

As someone who tends to struggle with her self-esteem, I feel she could appreciate someone who can relate to her on some sort of level.

I feel she’d be very intrigued by your unique sense of style! It’s so peculiar to her, seeing ways of dressing that are unlike her home, but she enjoys it a lot. She’d even allow you to style a couple outfits for her, as long as she can have fun with yours as well.

I believe she’d enjoy a partner on the shorter side, someone who she can hold and struggle with on the vertical level. Although, getting high obejcts can be tricky for the two of you.

With a smile, you shook your head. At least he was resting. And as much as you’d love for him to be in the bed, a more comfortable place of rest, disturbing him might cause issue. He could, being the stubborn worker he was, try to work more on the project.

So you settled for grabbing a soft blanket from your bed and draping it over him.

“Dear, what’s the matter?” She hadn’t even noticed the tears falling down her face. She stared at the loose t-shirt in her clenched fists.

She was shaking.

“I’d like to change alone, I think.” She braced herself for something. Maybe physical contact from your hand, or a sigh of disappointment. Something to try to coerce her into continuing despite her hesitation.

But she wasn’t met with any distaste, as you pulled away and reached behind you. You handed her the pajama pants she’d brought for your sleepover.

“You don’t need my permission to do what makes you comfortable, Lynette. You’re safe to do whatever you need.”

Before she could start sobbing, she quickly turned away to leave for the bathroom. At times like this, you knew it was not best to force her to be too open. Lynette allowing you to see a side of her that reveals her fear is rare. It was best not to push it.

And while you returned to making sure your room was ready for her return, she stood in the mirror.
