I’ve never seen anyone else talking about this, so maybe it’s just me, but I’ve always viewed Michael and Martin as parallels. Both were doteing and desperate for the approval of their Archivist (even while they were treated like shit). They were completely blind with trust and their own desire for love that they often resolved that staying ignorant was the best option. They both willingly threw themselves into the jaws of entities they didn’t understand to protect their Archivist. This parallel shines a really fascinating light on the difference between a Gertrude and Jon. Gertrude never came back for Michael, Jon did.
