We Asked: What was your most embarrassing moment? “One day I was trying to exit the library, and we have to use our student cards to get out but mine wasn’t working so I tried to climb under the turnstile. As I did the security guard started screaming at me that it was dangerous and I should get up .So I panicked and tried to stand up and knocked my head and shoulders against the metal bars. It was super embarrassing and everyone was looking at me as I made so much noise, but I was so disorientated I didn’t really know what was going on.” What’s the most interesting thing about your family? Do you have siblings? “I have 2 step brothers – 15 & 8. I’m still the tallest in my entire family though. Every time I get the chance to visit some kind of art fair I go after it. But to keep this creative mind upright throughout the whole week besides work, I need to get my running in. Literally every time a friend asks me what am I going to do this afternoon the answer is: I am going for a run! This hobby became a part of me and pushed me up to new levels. This is why I finished the New York City Marathon last year with just 18 years. Some say stupid but that’s me I guess.” What have you learned since you started modelling? “With modelling I kind of really started realizing that sometimes you really need to appreciate the situation you’re in. I was able to travel to certain cities and had the opportunity to meet wonderful individuals all over the world. I wasn’t really sure about it but I took a chance and went to the office the next day. Next thing you know I’m in Berlin doing a show. What was your first modeling job? So, the weekend I got scouted I received a phone call from Charlie telling me I’m going to Berlin to do a Topman show. I hadn’t done any test shoots or editorials at that point but as they say, “in at the deep end.” If you look at the footage of the show my walk was a little less refined than it is now. But as nervous as I was I knew this was where I was supposed to be. Favorite designer, fragrance or beauty product: Up until recently, I didn’t know much about fashion. So I don’t have a favourite. Ask me in a few months and I might have a solid answer. Currently you’re obsessed with/about: I’ve been thinking about religion and different cultures lately. I just want to know everything. I want to know the similarities and differences between people and what we can be done to bring the opposing cultures and people together. I think people want to blur the lines of culture to get rid of conflict. I think it’s lazy. Try to understand a culture. Understand why it’s different and appreciate the beauty of being unique.
