Handsome fellow!
one of the most impressive animals I met this year was a huge platyrhacid millipede, found chugging through some bamboo leaf litter in Malaysia.
he was a pleasant weight to hold in the hand, but spread out over so many gentle, graceful legs. the video offers a nice look at his eyeless face—all polydesmidan millipedes lack eyes.
I only hung onto this animated spinal cord for about thirty seconds before setting him back in the leaves, but I recall this encounter so vividly. a truly memorable creature
i need more friends who love bugs. I cant take telling people i love bugs and there reaction being "i hate them i kill everyone i see", or "ew" ( and then giving me a weird look. where are the bug lovers? where are my friends? let me show you my collection, lets draw insects together, lets make power points of our favorites.
Millipedes got a huge upgrade. I'm super happy with it
I used a mix of organic expanding potting soil, spare reptibark from GrilledCheese's enclosure, leaf litter and detritus I collected outside and boiled for the soil.
I used a piece of bark and a terracotta pot for hides and lots of sticks to climb on because this species climbs a lot apparently. I also used dried moss for added decor, I put it around their water dish and around their bark hide. The dirt slopes up a bit at the back so there is more digging room in the back.
The species I have in here are Narceus americanus or the American giant millipede.
I am thinking about looking for bumblebee millipedes or a similar species to cohab with them the next time I go to repticon.

The babies
I have collected 12 now and have been slowly adding them to the baby box as I see them
Also added calcium powder, more leaf litter and rotten wood, and fish flakes to the baby box
Saw my millipede sort of curled up and got worried he had died but I went to pick him up and he got mad so he's fine haha
I got a fern to put in the millipede tank, I'm hoping it does well
