Why do people need subtitles to watch a show in English? I don't get it. What is wrong with the ears of young people?

a lot of times i cant hear shit
cause theres a lot of noise
and i only have one (1) working earbud
or whatever they're called
so i need subtitles to understand what theyre saying
and also to focus on the words
i normally read lips irl
but in cartoons and scenes where you cant see the actors mouth
i have no idea what they're saying
