Character Question - Tumblr Posts - Page 2
Thank you for giving me prompts while I muster up the motivation to write 2 (3?) chapters before I get to the event
Freddie: he has, and can go for months, and possibly longer without talking. His emotions, which if he was willingly mute, would be mostly negative, so he'd communicate through glares.
Bella: She can probably go for quite a while without talking. By nature, she's very private, so she'd be fine just communicating with gestures, especially since she had a lot of practice with that in her earlier schooling years.
Zach: maybe 10 minutes? Provided he's not sleeping. He's social and loves to talk about, talk with, and talk at people. Once he comes out of his shell in canon, the other two are going to struggle to shut him up. He may not understand much, but he'll try his best, and will probably ask questions in all the wrong scenarios until he isn't completely lost.
How long can your OC go without talking?
Character Question 17
What do they love to hate?
Freddie: everything. He can find something bad about basically anything. But he goes out of his way to hate on technology, mostly cos he's not as good at it as he'd like.
Bella: people who go out of their way to hate things. She loves to tear down their opinions with facts and reason. She has made many people cry in these situations.
Character Question 18
What is their choice of weapon?
Zach: A spear. The short and far range and would allow him to protect more people (GLORYYYYY! HONOR!! stand behind me, good citizens)
Bella: A sword. She's good with hand to hand combat, so she'd be fine if she was disarmed. She's also done fencing! (I think I've mentioned this before) She really enjoyed it and is very good (although she wouldn't admit it)
Freddie: A crossbow. He's not getting near the front lines, not if he can help it. Also, it doesn't take much strength (especially if he gets Bella to install an automated loading system). Also, also, he can dip the arrows into chemicals.
(Freddie's is only if they had the resources for it and he learned about different weapons. This would be his choice. In canon, he either screams and runs away or he throws a dagger and/or one of the Reverse Balms Bella gave him)
Character Question 19
What is in their pockets?
Bella: she has a mini toolkit and a Swiss army knife. She also has a photo of her family by the beach. This is only applicable on the rare occasion she doesn't have her toolbelt on her.
Freddie: a periodic table from his first science fair that he went to with his parents. He also has the gold block from his element blocks.
Zach: the smallest stuffed animal (a blue sheep) from his collection and one of his dad's old badges.
Character Question 20
What is their most treasured possession?
Bella: her tool belt, for sure. It had the things she needs for any tinkering. She can also create basic projects with it (as long as she has access to solid materials, like a steel bar and laser cutter to shape it). If she had to choose one thing from the belt, it would be her souped-up USB stick. It fits 3 times as much as the largest commercially available one. It has the base programming for her best projects and lots of photos of her family.
Freddie: he has a notebook he takes everywhere with him that he writes down equations in. It was the last birthday gift he got from his parents (before they left they had a present set aside for him 2 years into their trip) and he carries it everywhere with him.
Zach: when he was seven, his father gave him an old badge. He carries it almost everywhere and hides it under his collar whenever he can. It means the world to him and he can't wait to earn his own.
Character Question 21
How do they deal with stress?
Bella: She'll read and read and read. She loves it and it's a perfect distraction. However, she also tends to repress, but she has less control. She won't have any outbursts, but she'll be quieter than usual and may swallow sobs during an intense conversation or if she's tired. She'll pause more frequently, but her voice won't crack, her words won't waver. Very few people can tell when she's stressed, and it takes a lot to coax it out of her and to sort through the issues.
Freddie: He will make and experiment to distract himself. He might come out of his lab with scorched eyebrows and blue fingertips, it wouldn't be surprising. You've seen this done before - when he heard Zach was coming, he immediately went to work on Cap's shield.
Zach: He'll practice whatever sport he's focusing on at that point. He will do it until his fingers are bloody and he's almost worn through his shoes unless the stress stops. He also loses control more often - he feels obligated to be cheerful, so he tries to repress the negativity, leading to bigger outbursts.
Character Question 22
When they were a child, what was something you were never sure of?
Zach: He knew his father was never guaranteed to come home. It always worried him when his dad was late home. His father always took the missions that had the greatest payoff - they got quite risky. He has had many sleepless nights waiting for his father. It left him a wreck the next day, and he would beg his father to stay from school; not to catch up on sleep, but to catch up with his father and learn about his experience in the field.
Freddie: Affection, for sure. He may not have been aware of it, but he always had to test the waters when his parents came home - they didn't always have time for him and could be quite snippy towards him. It was very rare that they would spend quality time with him. There was a time when they worked on their own with him on most days, but that slipped into memory as their jobs became more demanding.
Bella: As much time as she spent crafting her charismatic facade, she always doubted its integrity. She was always afraid someone would see through it to what she saw as her boring opinions or she'd let it slip in someone with a lot of connections that would spread the truth about her social eloquence. (Luckily, she had a stable home, but she doubted her social, public life constantly without reason, in most people's opinions)
Character Question 23
When you were a child, what was one thing they could always be sure of?
Bella: she always had a very reliable family that would support her no matter what, no matter how crazy the endeavor may be.
Freddie: before they left, he could always trust that his parents would answer his undying questions about the world. They were proud their son shared their insatiable curiosity.
Zach: his bed. It sounds simple enough, but his entire life he's had the same bedframe lovingly painted lavender with different shades of blue speckles and hearts and the growing collection of stuffed creatures meticulously arranged on his bed.
Character Question 24
Guaranteed way to make them sad, angry, scared, happy
Bella: sad; a good book with a sad ending. Or ruining a project. Angry; assuming you know more than her. She takes pride in her knowledge, so if anyone disses it prepare to be whipped by her silver tongue. Scared; the dark and uncertainty. She is really thrown off by things left to the unknown. Happy; discussing her favorite things - book series, cartoon shows, complex programming
Freddie: sad; mentioning his parents. Seriously, don't do that. After the date that was set for them to come home passed, they became a touchy subject. He will tear up and go silent and probably leave the room. Angry; pushing your ignorance or knowledge onto him. He can't deal with dumb people or people who make him feel dumb. He will explode and then leave. Scared; undefeatable forces. He is intimidated very easily by physical might and will cower and run away. The apocalypse doesn't help with this. Happy; learning something new, particularly in science. He loves making new connections in the world and relating them to other parts.
Zach: sad; death really makes him sad. He hates the fact people lose those that are close to him. His dad mourns his mother's death every year, and Zach generally cries too cos he hates seeing loved ones in pain. Angry; people picking on those weaker than him. He will Fight anyone who does that and won't let up. °See response to combat. Scared; a loss of control. He will freak out if he no longer has a solid grip on a situation. He's gotten better, but if something goes really wrong and doesn't look like it can be fixed, he'll freeze up. He hates that. Happy; hanging out with good friends. He loves messing around with a ball or hanging out up a tree.
Character Question 25
What do people notice first?
Bella: Her stance is very relaxed, and she seems confident in herself. She has a graceful ease to the way she moves and talks. She's charismatic and seems to have an opinion and information about anything anyone brings up. She never stammers and never seems to hesitate. There's an air of practiced perfection that surrounds her.
But if you spend a LOT of time with her, or are particularly observant, you may notice that some movements seem forced. Her eyes are constantly shifting around the room and she stays silent longer than other people. Unless she's a little more relaxed or is forced to, she leaves gatherings first. Her only signs of tiredness are when her gaze lingers and her eyes almost cross, and it seems like she's staring at nothing. When she returns to the room again, she's briefly apologetic, but mixed negativity lingers in her eyes - annoyance, doubt, self-hatred, guilt. Otherwise, her pep and bounce are unrivaled in length and enthusiasm.
Freddie: He is very articulate about any and all of his opinions. Despite being shorter than almost everyone, he somehow manages to look down on most people. He has scalding glares ready for anyone who doesn't quite keep up with his lightning-fast thoughts. He carries himself with confidence and will let his eyes drift around the room, barely lingering on the person speaking unless they have something truly momentous to say. Unfortunately, his physical characteristics pale in comparison to his mind. He's a little slow (something he's endlessly bitter about) and has almost no stamina. It doesn't take a lot of activity to tire him out.
He's a bite-sized package of sass, smarts, and temper. Don't take him on a walk.
Zach: He also has a practiced ease. He laughs easily and is almost constantly smiling. No one seems to dislike him at all. He has only a little more grace than most teenage boys his age.
Looking closer, he's quite toned and lasts longer than almost everyone in physical activity. His smile falters around certain people, but it's mostly unnoticeable. He avoids personal questions and often changes subjects that encroach on room details, collections, and parents. Fortunately for him, his charisma is barely forced; most of the cracks in his facade are from his defensiveness and secrecy.
Character Question 26
How is their current mental health?
Bella: It's okay. Not amazing since she has her social life to stress about. Since the apocalypse, it's taken a downhill turn since she's the eldest in the group and feels obligated to take on all the responsibilities. She's worried about a lot of stuff.
Freddie: He's recovered from his depression a few years ago, but his high standards don't keep him healthy. He pushes through exhaustion, which leaves him in a bad physical and mental place. The birthday surprise wasn't the first time he was drugged by loved ones.
Zach: He also holds himself to too high standards. But, he's better than the other two at accepting personal mistakes. Not a lot of his confidence is faked, oddly enough, allowing him to be more comfortable with himself. However, he also takes a turn for the worse with the apocalypse; he also feels he has to fix it, to be the hero and his fear of being abandoned is developed.
Character Question 28
What is their perception of redemption?
Zach: there is a tipping point for him (intentional, maliciously intended killing), but other than that, he will help anyone fight their way back into the good graces of society. If he cares for the supposedly "irredeemable" person he will drag his name through the mud to help their life improve.
Freddie: maybe people can be redeemed. Ruining a person and not making an effort to improve themselves will completely tarnish themselves in his eyes. Just, show respect and he'll be cool with you.
Bella: She famously gives people second and third chances when they make mistakes. (Can this be toxic? Yes. Will she keep going? Yes. Is this because she doesn't want to ruin her carefully crafted reputation if someone speaks badly about her even if she feels like she deserves it? Also yes) But if you take advantage of her and her patience runs out? You're dead to her. She'll tolerate you, but you will never regain her good graces.
Character Question 27
Who is most similar to your character? Who is the opposite of your character?
Zach v Freddie: Sporty vs Nerdy. One of the biggest differences is their attitude towards other people. Zach is very closed off when it comes to his true nature, but is otherwise outgoing and cheerful. Freddie, however, is very cynical and doesn't care if he offends anyone. He's not outspoken and generally keeps to himself but won't hesitate to verbally beat you down, unlike Zach who is a peacekeeper.
Bella v Freddie: Bella tries to be social, and, once again, is more of a peacekeeper and tailors her outward appearance and interests to be more appealing to others. One of the biggest differences is that she loves coding and dislikes chemistry, while Freddie is the opposite. Bella tries to expand her expertise over many subjects, whereas Freddie tends to specialize in a few (though he really is the best in them)
Bella v Zach: Once again, nerdy vs sporty, though less so. Bella does have some athletic finesse, though not nearly as much as Zach. She is also a hundred times smarter than him, but that's not his fault - we need a jock to balance out the team. Also, as protective and masculine as he acts, he has a tendency to panic in extreme situations.
Character Question 28
Are they comfortable with technology?
Bella: Technology is her safe space. She loves it more than people, almost more than life. She can program in her sleep and loves picking up new skills
Freddie: He is okay with it. I've established this before, but he prefers chemistry to programming. He can hack many websites, but some are well beyond his skill set, much to his chagrin and denial. He can handle it, but hasn't got nearly the finesse Bella does (honestly, who does)
Zach: He's lost when it comes to tech. He's helped his dad set up the WiFi and plays video games as much as the next teenage boy, but that's his limit.
Character Question 31
How did their parent's death affect them?
Zach: he hates that his mother's death affects his dad. And his stuffed animal collection is very important to him. But since his mum died when he was a toddler, it doesn't affect him much (I still haven't figured out how she dies. If she dies in a drive-by shooting/car chase that she wasn't involved in he would be more driven to be a police officer)
Freddie: grieved for his parents. He feels their absence prominently in his life. Despite not being the best parents, they were active in their child's life, so when they left for space he was depressed. It took a lot for his foster parents to help him recover.
When the government pronounced his parents as legally dead since they'd been missing for so long, he went into denial. He screamed at anyone who tried to reason with him for the first hour, then was silent for weeks. His foster parents were extremely concerned about him, but luckily it wasn't as bad as last time since he stayed in denial grieved already he didn't truly grieve (he didn't actually fully recover. It is doubtful he will ever be the same, naturally. At least the first time he had a probable date to look forward to. His exuberance for life greatly diminished after his second round of depression. Happiness level - 9 - 2.5 - 7.5 - 2 - 6.5)
Character Question 31
What is their idea of a really fun time?
Zach: he wouldn't like to be alone, but if he had to he'd probably play video games. He'd love to spend time with anyone at a park, provided there are trees and a ball to toss around.
Bella: a book club! She'd love to hang out and discuss good books with close friends. Alone, she loves to create new bots, crack codes, and read.
Freddie: eww, people take him to a science fair and enjoy the purity of him feeling out over cool simple experiments. He loves reading graphic novels and his side projects that he sometimes does for money. Or to prove a point. More often the latter.
Character Question 32
What do they do to entertain themself?
Bella: When she doesn't have access to her tools (which is rare) she loves to binge her favourite cartoon shows. Either that or read. She loves mystery and often plays a game with herself: how much faster can she figure out the puzzle before the detective/main characters. So far, only Sherlock has bested her, and it's only happened twice. That, and she drools over gadget magazines before realising she can best all the creators and starting a newer, improved version of her favourite thing from the catalogue.
Freddie: Straight to his comics in free time. If he has reread most of them recently, he turns to his hero themed projects. He finds it very easy to zone out and can lose days to his passions. It's totally worth it though, and easy enough to catch up.
Zach: If he's at home, he'll go outside and shoot some baskets on the driveway, bounce a ball against a wall, use the gym bars in the backyard etc. Provided he has an excess of time, he might go to the local skate park or parkour studio (?) And practice his moves there. Post short story, he might read a page or two from a lent comic book, but he generally reserves them for winding down before bed.
Character Question 33
What is their favorite fairytale? Least favorite?
Bella: The original sleeping beauty is her least favourite, for obvious reasons. If sleazy kings could not take advantage of helpless women, that'd be great. And let's not encourage cannibalism, even if your husband is not nice to you.
Mulan is probably her favourite. Where a self confident woman dupes an entire army, fights, wins, takes care of her family, and then comes back and can be happy with herself is a compelling and inspiring story for her.
Freddie: Stupidity frustrates him endlessly, so the fairytale about the sausage, the bird and the dog/mouse (or something like that) is probably his lead favourite. They disrupt the order they have and all suffer for it which infuriates him to no end.
His favourite is the stonecutter one. (Where a stonecutter wishes to become grand things and the mountain he's carving on, which is magic, and likes him, grants his wishes, before he ends up a stonecutter again because that's where he's happiest) He likes the idea of dreaming beyond your place in life. Find a boon in life and twist it to your advantage. Use observational skills to find and best something greater than you.
Zach: Snow White is his least favourite. Can we not bully people based on things they can't control? That would be nice. Again, cannibalism is not a great thing to attempt. And putting down women is very old fashioned and something he doesn't like. It's okay to be protective, as long as women are independent and able to rise to wherever they wish.
(I'm terrible with remembering names) There's a fairytale where this woman's husband and the father of her child is taken away because of a curse, so she goes on this incredibly long journey, wearing through a pair of iron shoes and being helped by relatives of the sun and moon. Zach loves the perseverance and kindness shown by the characters, so this is probably his favourite.
Character Question 34
What is their password? (Or the pattern they use to choose passwords)
Zach: he has named every single one of his stuffed animals. They are his passwords. If it needs a number and it's a plush from a birthday, he uses that number. (If that makes sense)
Freddie: he uses science facts. He'll abbreviate it or he'll use the first letters. Sometimes he uses obscure scientists that he admires!
Bella: you know the passwords Google suggests? She uses those. But she memorizes them. None of them are saved on any computer - she's too worried about hackers since she's made a few online enemies in her time. No one has ever kept her out of somewhere she wants to be, especially if it's hurting society.
🍂 What is your oc’s favourite colour? (PLEASE i love tiny little lore)
Thank you, Rose!! I'll do everyone since it's pretty simple Bella: Black - not because it's dark or angsty, it's just a classy colour that goes with everything. Zach: Magenta and navy blue, like his first plushy and his dad's uniform, respectively Freddie: Favourite colours are for people of lower intelligence (red and gold like Iron Man's suit) Fera: Purple - there's something complex, deep and soft about it that she really likes Nala: Green - any shade really, but mostly darker greens. It's just a nice colour and one that she's kind of adopted over the years. You don't want to know how many green flannels she has
Victor-Hecate: Burgundy - it’s just a nice cozy colour. Plus, her brother has fifty pajama shirts that are burgundy/maroon, so the colour reminds him of all the nights he spent comforting them.
