and and and if river were the one to jump into the doctor’s timeline on trenzalore in place of clara, then this could provide an in-universe explanation as to why river and the doctor happen to meet in almost exclusively the opposite order besides the doylist explanation of ‘for the time travelers wife vibes’

after the great intelligence starts tearing the doctor’s timeline apart from the inside and the doctor prepares to jump in after him, river decides to incapacitate the doctor and jump in his stead. she succeeds in knocking him out and handcuffing him to a rail but before she can enter the time stream, the doctor comes to and begs her not to go through with it. she explains that she knows if he enters his own time stream he’ll die and also that if she goes in, her own timeline will tangle with his, thus explaining why they meet in an unusually convoluted order even for time travelers.

bonus points if they get married in this moment instead of on the pyramid at the end of s6.

i say this as a 12/clara enthusiast and a friend to clara stans… but I personally think every episode featuring clara would be better if river was there instead 😬

imagine the ‘be a doctor’ moment in day of the doctor with river in clara’s place, imagine more kingston + capaldi, imagine river and missy’s rapport, luna university instead of coal hill, the singing towers leading into heaven sent, river’s portrait in the confession dial, river on gallifrey.

again, I do like clara!!✌🏻much love clara stans!!!! ❤️ i just personally care about river and what a thorough completion to her arch could have looked like more than I care about clara. i feel river’s arc is a cekhov’s gun set up with no execution. the story sets up her future adventures with the doctor, reveals who she is, then suddenly drops her except for three guest appearances to wrap up loose plot threads.

people don’t talk enough about that scene in the eleventh hour/the angels take manhattan where the doctor goes back to the night/morning he left amelia and he tells her something of the future that they’ll have together.

what did he tell her? that she would meet him again in many years and that when she did, she couldn’t tell him about this conversation until the right moment (she’d know it when it comes) and she’d write to him to tell him to go back in time and have this conversation? maybe amy was keeping that secret about their morning conversation the whole time she was traveling with 11? or maybe they talked about it offscreen in s5 and the doctor was like “oh, good to know that in my future i’ll have to go back and tell you about some of the adventures yet to come”.

in hindsight, this makes young amelia’s knowledge and fandom around the premise of doctor who, that the doctor goes on adventures across time to save people & planets in his box, make much more sense (i.e. the dolls, the dress up, the roleplaying with rory and mels). we didn’t see 11 tell amelia about his life in their fish custard scenes and it doesn’t seem to me like a child’s imagination would be sparked in such a particularly accurate way just based off those first minuets of the eleventh hour.

not really sure what the overall point is here. maybe this could be one of the only instances of moffat’s original long-term story arch plans staying the same(ish) through production issues then coming to fruition in a later series?

i first read sea of monsters when i was a kid and i knew nothing about greek mythology. when they arrived at cerci’s island and i realized men weren’t allowed there and then cerci began to transform percy, my heart skipped a beat and i was like PERCY’S A GIRL NOW!!?!?!!!! 😮✨🥹🩷 then he turned into a guinea pig…

that was one of my first egg crack moments. still annoyed that the rest of pjo after som isn’t about percy figuring out her gender and negotiating her feelings for annabeth while fighting against the titans. 2 trans 2 furious indeed, tuck woodstock. 2 trans 2 furious indeed.

I truly fucking despise the new season of Doctor Who being promoted as one that will be unique for showing the Doctor's queerness or whatever the fuck. There's this attitude under all this promo like the 15th Doctor is the first queer Doctor as if a) the 9th Doctor didn't kiss a man b) the Doctor didn't canonically change genders and c) when they were a woman was CANONICALLY in love with another woman. like HELLO??? I don't even like 13 and yaz that much and think they should've been written better, but there's something so misogynistic and revisionist about people acting like David Tennant saying Isaac Newton was hot in the anniversary special is "confirming the Doctor is queer" or that Ncuti's doctor will be the first queer Doctor. like...i hate it. This whole line of marketing reeks of Disney's "first Gay™" style marketing and I fucking hate it.

A history of how the exterior of the Gallifreyan citadel has been visualized from 1996 to 2016.

I suspect there are earlier visualizations which influenced the Leekley Bible, which then in-turn influenced New Who, but I'm not sure how to find those pre-1996 visualizations. Y'all have any info on that?
