Thank you for the tag @stardume :) I'm writing another Bad Batch Crosshair x fem!reader longfic for fun in-between sets at the gym and for a few minutes each night. It's been a great release and no-pressure hobby.

After another twenty minutes of jogging, the rail line was just overhead. You knew Phee would arrive soon, leaving the team only a few minutes to find what they could. “Hunter!” Wrecker calls, “You’re gonna want to see this.” Hunter jogs over to Wrecker. You and Crosshair exchange glances and follow. Wrecker stands looking over a ditch in silence. With a sinking feeling, you and Crosshair climb the hill to look into the ravine with Wrecker. You felt yourself gasp at the view. “It’s the rail car,” Crosshair nearly whispers.

“Mmhmm,” Crosshair grunted and he held you tighter before softly releasing you.  “What did you do while I was gone?” You asked. “I stayed in bed and shot holes in the ceiling,” he deadpanned.

I want to put crosshair in a jar and SHAKE HIM. Some observations:

Crosshair knows that the empire is evil and doesn't give a shit about him, but he is fucking CLINGING to it like a staffordshire terrier's teeth into some poor fuck's leg. The COGNITIVE DISSONANCE this bitch is going through is just fantastic to see. He's clearly got lower empathy *cough* autistic *cough* so the evil he's asked to do isn't TOO much of a problem, especially since it can be easily framed as usual soldier work "Good soldier's follow orders" and all.

The way Crosshair just fucking bull-headedly continues with the empire, despite things being miserable there for him. His sheer dumb stubbornness that comes from a) his abandonment issues and b) his desire for self preservation.

So like, Crosshair's conflict isn't going to be with the evils of the empire which is so interesting! I think he's going to realize that he CANNOT make himself invaluable to the empire. That he cannot force this system to care for him.

My biggest hope is they don't do redemption = death with him. Thus far the objective best redemption arc in star wars is Kallus. In part BECAUSE they didn't make redemption = death for him. And I gotta be honest: kallus' redemption arc isn't that good. I feel like with crosshair they could give it NUANCE and DEPTH and WAY more attention than they gave Kallus' arc (fair kallus is a super minor character).

Anyway Crosshair may be my favourite charater in tbb. I want to poke him with a stick and make him cry.

He’d be unzipping those and wearing the cuffs as a neck gaiter

I know the blue pants Tech is sporting is popularly characterized as "jeggings" but the white stripe in the fabric down either leg actually suggests "break away sweats"

When Crosshair says to Hunter and Wrecker: “….it’s what I deserve,”

what he’s really saying is:

“I love you. But the guilt of my actions is too painful; and the only way I know how to show you how sorry I am is to sacrifice myself for the greater good,”

Crosshair did not spend the night at home and returned in the morning.

Hunter: Where the fuck were you?! We've called all the hospitals, prisons and morgues. You were everywhere.
