Saiki uses the absolute thinnest excuse to justify rescuing Yuuta from a fight.
But he doesn't know it's Yuuta at first, and he hates meddling, so why does he do it?
Simple.
He knows how devastating a 'kid fight' can be.
Saikik fanfic where yuuta has an abusive family (alcoholic absent mother,no father) but doesn't realize bc yk he's just a kid,After many fights,tricks and problems,Kusuo manages to have the abusers arrested but Yuuta is forced to end up in the system
Obviously kusuo would NEVER let that happend,He would talk (cough cough he would suggest cough) to his parents that they legally adopt Yuuta, but Kuniharu's bad work history and the fact that his mother is a housewife doesn't help,He wouldn't dare to use his mental control, something like "children can be adopted by a parent with medium/low-medium resources" wouldn't end well,so he takes control, gets a part time job for money (he refuses to use his powers to get easy money bc his mother etc), pays a lawyer and gets custody of yuuta as legal older brother,Now to get custody he had to emancipate himself (I don't know about the legal terms, if I find out more I will correct it, if anyone knows, can you tell me!) so the scenario is:
Kusuo is legally an adult, which means he can become independent since he has a stable income, Yuuta will no longer have to go to foster care and has a legal relative,now Yuuta went through a lot of stress in the process bc in the end he is still a child and Kusuo knows more than anyone that his parents, no matter how much love they may have, are not the right ones to take care of a child,so,They leave the house, get a decent apartment for both of them and that's basically the entire fanfic.
genuinely kinda crazy to me to minimize the weight of saiki catching teruhashi when she faints because she hasn't slept for the sake of being the perfect pretty girl. like that's not even hater shit that's just lying to yourself because you know damn well that him teleporting into that crowd to catch her is a huge show of his character development and how much he cares about her. his problem with teruhashi was always the amount of attention she draws because her being an attention magnet was in direct conflict with his primary goal of trying to make himself perfectly average so he wouldn't stand out at all, so for him to care enough about her that he would not only put himself in the spotlight to catch her but that he would worsen the attention he drew doing that by glaring at and reprimanding everyone for not caring about her speaks VOLUMES. and you know it's not a coincidence that she also does something in direct conflict with her primary goal in life (being the perfect pretty girl 24/7) by telling the boys that she forgot what they were talking about so she can go thank him for it... these are clearly actions that are directly meant to be compared because they both sacrificed something they have historically viewed as integral to their comfort and happiness for each other. even if you don't think it's romantic (which... it clearly is meant to be; so sorry if you dislike that), it's still a blatant display of how much their relationship has developed and the care they have for each other.
Y'all know those fanfics where Saiki is an asshole to Teruhashi or really rude to her until they start dating? Yeah, this is what I imagine what that Saiki meeting Canon Saiki would be like.
Canon Saiki: So do you still deal with Teruhashi?
Fanfic Saiki: I can not avoid that woman. The other day she was bothering me when a mob of her fans showed up so I teleported away and-
Canon Saiki, surprised: You revealed your powers to her?! I mean, her fans do suck, so I can understand panicking and teleporting the both of you away-

Fanfic Saiki: I teleported myself away. Well actually, I was the one who kinda summoned that crowd so that she'd be too overwhelmed with them to go find me-
